Browns Trade Trent Richardson to Colts for 1st Round Pick

The Indianapolis Colts pulled off a stunning trade Wednesday afternoon, sending their 2014 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for running back Trent Richardson.

The move comes just 17 months after the Browns made Richardson the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft under a previous regime.

The Browns appear to be stockpiling draft picks in order to grab a franchise quarterback in next year's draft. The deal came on the same day that the team announced third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer will start Sunday, with no guarantee that injured starter Brandon Weeden — drafted by the previous regime — would ever get his job back.

When asked about the draft, Browns CEO Joe Banner dodged.

"I don't want to tip our hands, but it puts us in a very good position to have made some good progress in the off-season, we're in good (salary) cap shape," Banner said. "We're positioning ourselves to build a team that is good and sustainable."

Re: The Official Page of The Clevland Browns 2013

I would like a poll for this but I didn't have that option, but I would like your feed back please. Thanks

Who got the better deal? Colts or Browns and why?

Was it shady business that the Browns didn't inform Trent about the transaction? He found out from a friend who heard the report on the radio

Would you say that the Browns are waiving the "white flag" for this season after only 2 games in?

Browns with the epic win.. To trade a HB that can't average four freaking yards per carry for a first round pick? Jackpot!

Also, I don't think the Browns particularly cared about letting him know. I'm assuming he's a locker room cancer due to the swiftness of the deal despite all the "potential" Trent has.

I'm sure the Browns would be just as bad with Jason Campbell and Trent as they will be with the Hoyer and Rainey show. With all the beast offensive minds Cleveland has, with a good draft and that current defense, they can be good quickly.

That is food for thought. Much appreciated

As hard as it is for me to say this but, I would have to agree. I just think that it sets a bad tone for the vets on the team as to how the Browns organization conduct business. One week you are a Brown and the next week, who knows?

Makes lots of sense, thanks for the feedback

I disagree. Dude played with two broken ribs last year against 8 man fronts every game he played. Indy got the better of the deal. Dude will feast with Andrew Luck as his QB. Teams aren't going to be stacking the box against him since Luck is his QB now.

I completely forgot about that. If that isn't loyalty then I don't know what is.

I would have to say that his stock just went up. I can't recall Indy having a solid presence in the back field since E. James. Luck is all smiles right about now. Thanks for dropping in on this topic

Not to mention: "Yards per carry as rookies:

Emmitt Smith: 3.9
Walter Payton: 3.5
LaDanian Tomlinson: 3.6

None of those guys ever amounted to anything, so clearly using first-year stats is a perfectly reasonable way to gauge a running back's future success."
