To get this out of the way, no I'm not overlooking:
  • ignoring sounds of the game & the possibility of custom music becoming available
  • the temporary removal of precious online game modes that at least 50% of community plays

What I am referring to are clearly marked strong improvements over the previous gen NHL that I'm seeing and feel that I could enjoy very much in the full version of this game. Those factors being:
  • the most authentic skating this franchise has ever seen to date by far
  • the only game with truly authentic puck physics created exciting gameplay at times
  • the undoubtedly top notch level of graphics, and commentary challenges the best of sport games in next gen
  • the best to date physical contact to date arguably even better than ufc
  • other small but notable key improvements, like jersey physics namely. just shows them going to that extra extra mile.

These improvements far outnumber the things most people are dissapointed about right now and are so quick to chastise and crucify this game. I don't understand people leaving reviews currently, if you bought the game you knew and very well should have known going in, features were missing. What actually is inside the game is my question and Based on the demo I am playing I see unprecedented potential unlocked by this franchise taking the steps to bring their hockey gameplay up to that next level.

One would think that eventually when they tie in all of the DLC or patches for this year and when they start to gear for the title next year this will become a mind blowing franchise, challenging the best in this sports gaming industry.

So my question is shouldn't we be commending? EAS for NHL 15 ignoring these extra game modes just to specifically stress maxing the actual root of their game, the actual hockey gameplay? The more of the demo I continue to play, and I've had it since day 1 I become increasingly satisfied that if I were to take the full game tweak the sliders for more realistic hitting this would be the nearest I've gotten to perfect gameplay in a sports game.

Am I delusional please be honest.

Re: Shouldn't We be COMMENDING EAS NHL 15?

You can commend it if that is how you feel about it. But not all would be in agreement with you. And I am sure a good bit would argue your "These improvements far outnumber the things most people are dissapointed about right now" comment.

My question is what does it matter? Why are so many people hurt that the game is not being as received as well if they like it? Serious question.

It almost seems as though people are hurt because the game gets negative reviews or that people point out a flaw in it. It is an opinion and you cannot be "wrong" no matter how you "feel".

If I live in a trailer and drive a mo-ped to work everyday and I argue that I am happy in life and I love my life then I wouldn't be wrong. And I shouldn't look to others to justify how I feel about any of it. Why would you do it with a video game?

I feel as though people take things too personally with opinions going against theirs. As if they need to justify their thoughts on something with the approval of others. If you love something then enjoy it and don't let anyone tell you that you are wrong. But don't preach to the others who are not as happy with the same things in life either. You will waste a lot of time and end up miserable yourself. It is not as if others liking this game will all of the sudden mean it is actually better or worse. It will not mean that you have more people to play with or against, especially with the modes that are in the game. And it shouldn't matter to you what anyone else feels if you are happy with the product.

I think most articles ive read agree that the gameplay is great. (I personally disagree.) But the missing modes are too big to overlook and give praise for NHL 15. I feel for the development team and feel they should be commended for what theyve had to try and do with such limited (from what I understand) resources. I for one am glad for the backlash I just hope its focused on EA not the development team. EA refuses to put even a fraction of the money they make off of ultimate team back into development which is ridiculous.

The game looks awesome, leaps and bounds in comparison to past versions. But I think that might be a part of the reason as to why people are so disappointed their favorite game modes are missing. But the potential of this game is extraordinary but the missing game modes really don't allow it to be reached fully. So many people can already extrapolate to the '16 version that will *hopefully* iron out these omissions and be a more complete game. But it just sucks that people waited an entire year for the next generation version to get what's quite honestly and incomplete game.

After 40 plus games on play now ONLY its my game of the year ! As gameplay is incredible and this is without modes and that says alot aboot how improved game play and atmosphere are as this is a incredible base for the future so use it well EA NHL .

And once playoff mode , 3 Stars and player edit is release I will be set until NHL 16

See Im in it for the long haul and sure EA PR didnt do things right but they set a wonderful base if used properly for years to come by biting the bullet and game play is so sweet I can forgive them .

I mean if they didnt do it this way we might have a messed up game for the next 3 years with their limited budget so if your a true Hockey fan I would support EA NHL because their the only game in town and we might even not have that and the EA NHL team really does care as you can see it in the game .

Re: Shouldn't We be COMMENDING EAS NHL 15?

I am happy that they took the time to rebuild the game. New realistic puck physics, new game play. new ice that as the game goes it interferes with the puck, new broadcast and presentation.
They could of just copy and pasted from the ps3, like Madden 25, but that game got trash talked for doing that. No matter what they did people would have something negative to say.
I think they made the right choice to make a hockey game that is close to the real thing. They could of been like let's do some things so we can get eashl in there, but they committed to game play and couldn't get out eashl. They could of also just put eashl in it and have it rushed or broken too. It's not like they said no we're not doing eashl. They were working on it and couldn't get it in. It wasn't gutted as people say.
It's good too that they look at what people play and don't. Like shoot outs, be a legend, gm connected. Why waste the little resources they have on modes that don't get played?
I do feel that people who only play eashl add the other features that are out just to add to their fire. Otp will be in so that should be enough to hold people over. The ones who aren't getting the game to make some point are really missing out on a great game, and don't get to be a part of the rebuild to be even more excited for next year.

The gameplay is improved and the graphics/presentation are top notched but I refuse to commend a game that ships with barebones modes. Every other sports game on the market was able to update the visuals to next gen standards, improve their gameplay and still offer full fledged game modes.

And also had another year to prepare the game for next-gen. They should have done what Madden and FIFA did by porting over the 14 version of the game and then improving on the game, taking another year for "development" seemed to hurt the game more than help it imho. Sure the gameplay's good but you have two barebone game modes to play with the gameplay if you're an offline gamer, which doesn't constitute still having a $60 price tag. I would not have bought the game at $60 but my friend was generous enough to buy it for me so we can play OTP when it's patched in but yeah, just thought I'd vent my frustration with NHL 15 at this point in time.
