Re: WWE Off-Topic

Yeah the reason why Hogan turning heel worked was because he'd been a face for 15 years or something stupid.

I remember just shrugging the last two or three times he's turned.

That's why I thought Del Rio was a really good face, he was heel for 3 years or so and then it was exciting when he went face.

A Cena turn would also work for that reason.

Re: WWE Off-Topic

They ruined Kane, man. Was one of my favorites.

I watched Savage and Steamboat from Wrestlemania 3 for the first time last night. I've seen great matches from Savage. I've seen awesome matches from Steamboat. That match was nowhere near as good as people make it out to be and even got sloppy towards the end of the match. I always see people mention this match when talking about one of the must see matches; this isn't a match I would tell anyone they HAVE to see. It was a good match, just not what it seems people have made it out to be.

Re: WWE Off-Topic

It's crazy to think that 15 years ago Kane was one of the scariest monsters in WWE history. Really wish he would of called it quits instead of doing what he's doing now.

Because quitting instead of doing something you love, or make good money with while you still can is wise. Blame creative, brother.

Fair enough. I just mean his in-ring skills aren't close to what they once were, the character blame isn't on him. I assume he'll stick around the company in some sort of off-camera role after he retires anyway.

You should be banned for making such statements.

The match is a classic for many reasons; legit tore down the house at WM III when the main draw was Hogan vs. Andre. First time in the modern WWF that an undercard match had that much buzz surrounding it.

The match influenced so many future wrestlers, most notably, Chris Jericho.

The pace of the match was something we hadn't really seen in WWF before. Both guys were going full-throttle and every move meant something. Told a great story (Steamboat seeking revenge for Savage nearly ending his career) and elevated both wrestlers to another level in terms of fan awareness and popularity.

Sure, there's been matches since that have been better technically, but this one still ranks as one of the most influential matches of all-time and I think the in-ring works holds up very well to this day.

Re: WWE Off-Topic

As a stand alone match, it was decent. If I need to know all of the back story and influence to appreciate, it wasn't as great as people would have me believe.

Angle/Eddie
Taker/Michaels
Bret/Michaels

Those were all great matches that I could watch today with no context and still see it as a great match.

It wasn't a bad match at all, just not the must see match that fans would have you (or just me) believe.

Re: WWE Off-Topic

Far be it of me to say what match is/isn't a classic, but I too watched Steamboat/Savage for the first time (at least as an adult) recently, and also came away feeling like it was sloppier than expected given the critical acclaim.

That's not me saying it wasn't a good match or didn't tell a good story; but the way its talked about in some podcasts I subscribe to, I expected more.
