NHL 15 News Post

EA Sports has just released the official teaser trailer for NHL 15, as well as a features list.

NHL 15 will hit stores worldwide this fall for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, and the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.

NHL 15 Features for Xbox One and PlayStation 4

True Hockey Physics
  • 12 Player NHL Collision Physics - For the first time, real-world physics affect every player through every on-ice collision with the new 12 Player NHL® Collision Physics. Utilizing the power of the new consoles, and building off the critically-acclaimed NHL Collision Physics system, every player on the ice is governed by physics at all times. Feel the hard-hitting chaos of NHL hockey through true-to-life secondary collisions, net scrambles and player pileups, capturing the desperation of every shift.
  • Real Puck Physics - The puck is one of the most complex items in the game to authentically replicate and it finally gets its due in NHL 15. Completely rebuilt puck physics result in a more realistic feel to every puck interaction. Everything on the ice, including the ice surface itself, is live which leads to the unpredictable and authentic puck spins, rolls and bounces seen in a real NHL game.
The Next-Generation Hockey Player
  • Authentic Player & Equipment Models - The Next Generation Hockey Player has been rebuilt from the ice up. Now player models have three distinct layers - the body, equipment, and jersey. Each layer interacts independently, making every contact with the puck or other players even more realistic. Dynamic Cloth technology adds an extra layer of realism as it reacts to the player's movement as they explode up the ice, helping bring the speed of the game to life.
  • Unprecedented Player Likeness - Powered by the same technology that brought the most realistic representation of the athlete to EA SPORTS UFC, NHL 15 delivers groundbreaking player likeness, emotion and animation. From the strides a player takes to get across the ice to the emotion on their face after scoring a game-winning goal, the players are as real as they've ever been.
  • Superstar Skill Stick - Now all the tools of an NHL superstar are in your hands. The revolutionary Skill Stick has evolved to give even more control to the player. Protect the puck, receive passes without breaking stride, and discover an arsenal of new dekes, all with an intuitive right stick control scheme that is easy to use but packed with depth.
  • Vision AI - An elevated level of player intelligence, Vision AI features evolved awareness with players reading and reacting to potential plays. Scoring area recognition, pass anticipation, and enhanced team breakouts all improve the flow of the game.
NBC Sports Broadcast Package
  • A New Commentary Team - New voices for a new generation. NHL 15 welcomes the NBC Sports commentary team of Mike ‘Doc' Emrick and Eddie Olczyk to the broadcast booth. TSN analyst Ray Ferraro will provide game insights at ice level. Leveraging the same Vision AI foundation that the players have, and just like a live broadcast, Doc, Eddie and Ray will anticipate plays and ramp up their intensity to match the action on the ice with more than 35,000 lines of brand-new commentary.
  • NBC Sports Game Day Presentation - The most realistic broadcast package in a video game to-date is possible because of a new partnership with NBC Sports. Set the scene with the NHL on NBC crew welcoming you to the city during the game intros and immerse yourself in an experience that matches what you see on television with NHL on NBC graphics and branding.
  • Real Life Broadcast Integration - When we say Doc and Eddie are in the game, we mean really in the game. Taking commentary integration to the next level, NHL 15 will feature real world pre-game video commentary with Doc and Eddie. Set against NHL 15 in-game visuals, the result is a revolutionary step forward in sports videogames, where the lines between the real world of sport broadcast and the game are blurred.
Unrivalled In-Arena Experience
  • Over 9,000 Crowd Models - NHL 15 sets a new standard in videogames with more than 9,000 individual crowd models with 4x the animations of previous generations. Take a look through the glass and you'll see fans hold up signs with your name on them, costume wearing superfans, or even sections full of team rivals rooting against you.
  • Living Crowds - The crowd is alive. Feel the crowd behavior change after dropping the gloves, landing a big hit, or scoring a clutch goal. Individual behaviors are mapped to each person in the crowd, as they anticipate the play, taunt players, clap to music from the dynamic Jumbotron or even take a quick break from the action to snap a selfie and immortalize their experience.
  • Authentic Arenas - There is no feeling like being there, and we are giving you the best seats in the house. The power of the next-gen consoles finally allows the NHL franchise to capture every detail of an NHL arena. Unique arena elements from more than 19,000 seat capacities to lighting and player entrance tunnels are captured with a level of detail not possible on the previous generation. Now those home games will truly feel like home.

EA knows how to make a great trailer, there is no doubt about that. But I have been disappointed too many times not to approach the game with cautious optimism.

New announcing team sounds great.....but Gus Johson on Madden seemed like a great idea as well.

how about gameplay? i know this is just the first info...and to me..didnt even get excited...in fact...im still a doubter....before NHL is a first day must-buy for me...skipped 14....and hopefully this would bring me back...but again...my enthusiasm about this game will not be improved until the release of the game and the reviews from the trusted guys here in OS.

Sounds good so far. I'm happy its coming to the next gen, because that wasn't a lock, in my mind at least.

I just want to run an umbrella powerplay with proper spacing and positioning without a random player on my team getting in every passing lane.

You just described the exact feelings and thought I have! Cannot wait for this game!

What do you guys think about the screens and vid they released? I'm very underwhelmed and disappointed. I'm sure the game will be great, but surely they have to have some exiting things they could have shown off.

I'm also beyond excited to have Emrick in the game. Wow!! That'll really help the game feel that much more authentic.

I am waiting to reserve my judgment until I see gameplay. Call me cautiously optimistic so far. I am curiosu from what they haven't said, what they will do about goaltending, GM and live the life (live the life was imo terrible). For EA, as this is the only one of the 4 major sports that actually seems competent, I am hoping for a good result.

I wouldn't look too much into it yet. It's 30 seconds long with basically nothing to even go off of graphics wise. That shot of Rogers Center looks fantastic though. Anyway I'd say don't even worry about the graphics yet just basing it off the trailer. That's a tad silly. I know it's hard to resist because we don't have much to go off of, but I'd reserve judgement in that area until we see gameplay.

Totally agree with you about Doc though. It's a big addition. Even though I need massive gameplay improvements in order to be sold on this game, having Doc will help freshen up this game. We will finally be done hearing player lines that date back to NHL 09. I'm still in shock at how much it sounds like they are improving this game and moving it to what seems like a more Sim direction. I was not expecting this at all and I'm almost happy I had such low expectations. The only major thing missing is goalie improvements but the fact the GI article said that goals were going in on goalies that you'd never see in current gen helps a bit. I just can't stand the warping goalies. Annoys me to no end.

This game definitely has my interest. I haven't gotten an NHL game in ages, and I'm not a hardcore hockey fan by any means. That being said, this might be the year I give it a chance again. Hockey games are always pretty fun, and this one will look amazing I'm sure!

THIS kind of stuff is exactly why I bought a PS4. I'm not even that huge of a hockey fan, but I'm quite excited about this game. Love NBC broadcasts. And no offense to Gary Thorne, who is a great broadcaster, but he was getting a little tired. You can only hear the same lines so much before you start wanting to punch a baby.

Yes. Exactly.

Gary Thorne was awesome for a long time. And I enjoyed having him. But it's been time for a change for quite some time. And Doc is super exciting on NBC broadcast.

This is fresh.

Seems like everyone is jumping on the hype wagon!
How quickly we forget the previous game and its failings, now everyone thinks EA has somehow turned it around in one year. All I see here is NHL14.2, giving us better graphics and new commentary, both will not matter a hill of beans if the game balance remains uneven and the AI remain incompetent. Sure puck physics is a welcome addition, but after seeing the puck bouncing last year, do we really think they can deliver?

EA needs to prove that they can make a good hockey game, bullet points are not going to convince me and especially not after last years game.

It was absolutely a lock. Why wouldn't EA have planned one of their biggest sports releases annually to come out on the Next Gen consoles? To be the final sports game left to not be on Next Gen 6 months into it's life, and then to also not put it out the year after previous sports games already had their NG debut. C'mon now.

Not to mention this game has no doubt been in development for close to 2 years. Which obviously means they had plans for it before then.

Your video game judgement needs some touching up my man, lol.

It doesn't mean people have forgotten. Many people want something to be excited about. I'm in the same boat as you, but it's still ok to hop aboard the hype wagon and not buy the game if the some of the same issues haven't been touched. As of now it seems like this could be a much different game compared to current gen. It's an opportunity for them to restart and as a consumer be hopeful that they do it the right way. All in all I still haven't paid them 60 bucks so it doesn't hurt to be interested or hyped about what they've talked about so far.

Regardless there are going to be issues in the first version of Next Gen. That's just a given especially when they are redoing complicated parts like puck and hitting physics. If those issues aren't glaring (like the CPU dump into the corner) then it will be a step in the right direction. For me this is the first time in 4 years I'm at least intrigued by the NHL series, and that's saying a lot because I probably have too high of expectations.

So what are 360 people getting with the new game? New rosters??

# 79 Fiddy @ 05/05/14 06:19 PM
i was expecting the game not to be next gen. im glad i was wrong about that!

as for the rest, umm, ok i guess.

finally adding things that have been requested and some of which were long over due by say 5 years.

hopefully, hopefully this game can make me put away 2k10 for a full year. we shall see! we all have been fooled by these guys before. wait and see approach from me.
