NBA 2K18 News Post

2K today announced that Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Kyrie Irving, as the cover athlete of NBA® 2K18, the next iteration of the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series of the past 16 years*, which will be available on September 19, 2017. The selection of Irving marks his first appearance on the cover of NBA 2K and comes at a pinnacle point in his career after consecutive dominant years with the Cavaliers and a repeat appearance at the NBA Finals this season, which has appropriately earned him the nickname, “Ankletaker.”

“It is well known that I’m an avid player of this series and I am honored to be the cover athlete of NBA 2K18,” said Kyrie Irving, who has his sights set on another ring and is making a run for back-to-back championships. “It’s surreal to be featured on the cover and I can’t wait to dominate on the virtual court with all of my fans this fall.”

Kyrie’s basketball resume includes a Rookie of the Year award in 2012, NBA All-Star Game MVP in 2014, and the 2016 NBA championship that marked one of the most incredible upsets in NBA Finals history with a team-high 27.1 points per game, making him the unquestioned choice in bringing NBA 2K18 to fans around the world.

“It’s obvious that Kyrie isn’t disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon, so we’re thrilled to have him as our cover athlete, alongside Shaq for the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K. “He’s a more-than-worthy recipient of this honor, and joins so many other greats who were cover athletes before him.”

Fans who pre-order NBA 2K18 at participating North American retail and online vendors receive Early Tip-Off Access, ensuring they receive their copy and in-game bonuses four days early beginning on September 15, 2017.

The NBA 2K18 Standard Edition includes in-game content, including:
  • 5,000 Virtual Currency;
  • 10 Weekly MyTEAM Packs;
  • Kyrie Outfit Pack;
  • And more!
The NBA 2K18 Standard Edition will be available for $59.99 for PlayStation®4 system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC platforms on September 19, 2017.

As previously announced, the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and Legend Edition Gold will be available in both digital and physical formats for $99.99 and $149.99, respectively, on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition Gold physical edition is available exclusively at GameStop.

So 2ks dribbling better be A1 if it isn't you've dishonored Kyrie.

With the exception of when they had the Jordan mode - or if the heavily feature a player in modes I don't get it.

I'd rather they tell us what they are improving and adding...

There is another thread for that. Not here.

Mostly agree. I like seeing who's on the cover mostly because it's our first bit of news about the new game, but I do wish they would give us a little something with it. A screenshot, a short tease video, a hint about what's new in the game, etc.

I miss the days when the cover athlete gave us an idea of what to expect for new features. I don't think we've seen that happen since Jordan on 2k11 and jordan, bird, magic on 2k12. EA was always a bit better with this. Live 14 used Kyrie and focused on the new dribbling system. Madden's athletes used to always give an idea of what to expect, and to an extent still does.

Wow I almost hate Cleveland enough to not want to buy this and have to see Kyrie.

Interesting choice, considering he was on the other game's cover not too long ago. Would be hilarious if he showed up at E3 with a 2K producer and did exactly the same thing he did 4 years ago...

On a side note: 2K covers become more and more weird. Less designed, more casual, looks like worse than what OS artists come up with. But as long as the game is great...who cares, eh?

Not 2K and Live, but Kobe was on the covers of NBA Courtside, NBA Action 98 and NBA '07.

LOL. I love/hate Kyrie. Just can't root for him because LeBron and the Cavs. But you might have to get the Shaq edition lol. But if you mean the startup screen it might not matter.

I look at them as minimalist approaches and i'm certainly liking them a lot. In game menu colors we had in 2k17 was really slick and on point not really hurting your eyes and such and they seem to continue on that..

Why not just print out a custom cover? I'm pretty sure people do a custom cover thread every year on this site. It be cheaper to print out a cover with a player you like than to pay $40 extra just because of the cover athlete.

How much do you even look at the cover to begin with? Aside from when I remove the disc from the case or put the disc back in I don't even look at the cover. At one point I forgot who was on the cover of 2k17

What did he do 4 years ago? Name drop the "other" game while being interviewed or something?

Cover looks kind of lame in my opinion. The background is very bland & doesn't jump out at you. Hopefully the gameplay is improved mainly the foot planting with players sliding into position to receive passes without moving their feet (especially after a made basket when inbounding the ball).

Notice the muscle definition in Irving's arms? Please make a note of this 2k art team when you do player models this year..Congrats Kyrie!

I actually disagree I love the simplicity of it. I think it looks really clean and well done
