NBA 2K18 News Post

2K today announced that Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Kyrie Irving, as the cover athlete of NBA® 2K18, the next iteration of the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series of the past 16 years*, which will be available on September 19, 2017. The selection of Irving marks his first appearance on the cover of NBA 2K and comes at a pinnacle point in his career after consecutive dominant years with the Cavaliers and a repeat appearance at the NBA Finals this season, which has appropriately earned him the nickname, “Ankletaker.”

“It is well known that I’m an avid player of this series and I am honored to be the cover athlete of NBA 2K18,” said Kyrie Irving, who has his sights set on another ring and is making a run for back-to-back championships. “It’s surreal to be featured on the cover and I can’t wait to dominate on the virtual court with all of my fans this fall.”

Kyrie’s basketball resume includes a Rookie of the Year award in 2012, NBA All-Star Game MVP in 2014, and the 2016 NBA championship that marked one of the most incredible upsets in NBA Finals history with a team-high 27.1 points per game, making him the unquestioned choice in bringing NBA 2K18 to fans around the world.

“It’s obvious that Kyrie isn’t disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon, so we’re thrilled to have him as our cover athlete, alongside Shaq for the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K. “He’s a more-than-worthy recipient of this honor, and joins so many other greats who were cover athletes before him.”

Fans who pre-order NBA 2K18 at participating North American retail and online vendors receive Early Tip-Off Access, ensuring they receive their copy and in-game bonuses four days early beginning on September 15, 2017.

Didn't realize that. I think my buddy had Live 96 with the cover showing the 1995 Finals.

Actually my buddy had it for PC, but I see. For some reason they had different covers for different systems.

This game is all about My park and Pro Am now. Same Legend teams every year, never any new online modes. Nothing new at all and people like you don't care because you run straight to the park and tell others "don't care don't buy it". I hope NBA Live kills this franchise one day if they don't get their crap together.

I'm sure it's not really the place as far as wishing goes for 2k18 yet again after seeing the other game some of the impressions people mentioned i had to stress that especially on online 2K has to get rid of all kind of auto contest, auto lockdown, defensive asist etc. etc defense has to be in full control of the user and his/her own skill with left/right analog and ofcourse the controlled players ability and that's that. Auto stuff has to be removed from competitive online gaming whether play now online, mypark, myleague online etc.

Is there going to be a separate edition released for the XBox One X?

Going to be interesting to see what happens if Kyrie does leave. 2K might have to Photoshop new uniform on Kyrie, or shoot a new picture. I don't think this has ever happened...or has it?

Lol they probably won't do anything... would be funny to see him on the cover and main screen in a Cavs Jersey and he plays for SA or something.

Would be funny if the commentators will be talking about how Kyrie and LeBron are a great duo and have great chemistry.

The only time I know of is when Brett Favre was on the cover of Madden when he first retired then the Packers traded him to the Jets. Either way....

Good call. Had to do some Wiki'ing to see how that was handled (I was out of the Madden loop by '09):

On April 23, 2008, David Letterman revealed that former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre would be the cover athlete of Madden NFL 09 on the Late Show with David Letterman. Despite Favre's later unretirement and trade to the New York Jets about five days before Madden NFL 09 was officially released in North America, the game's cover still featured Favre wearing a Packers uniform. Instead of reissuing the packaging, on August 12, 2008, EA made available a free alternative cover of Favre in a Jets uniform from their website that players were able to download and print.

I vote for putting him in one of those generic jerseys that 2K free agents used to wear - the white and red or grey and white combo. Like a jersey version of this:

Or maybe something like this from the side where you can't technically see much Cavalier branding.

i do remember EA FIFA did this:

Spoiler

(just eliminate the Molten logo, and it's good)
