Does 2k sports simpy know sports better than EA.
Posted on September 11, 2009 at 07:07 PM.
I don't want to start a riot between 2k and EA fans but for being a huge fan of EA the past dozen years it just doesn't seem they have ever got sports right. (keep in mind I am mainly talking in the area of football and basketball because that is where I have the most knowledge but I would like to hear about the other sports as well. EA sports games have come down to just be arcadey compared to 2k sports' games. For years 2k has been the standard for simulation basketball and live has been a complete fastbreak and dunk highlight show. As a big fan of Madden mainly during it's PS2 days and the short few weeks I've had with madden 10 I've always enjoyed their football outings despite a horrific and I mean horrific first 3 years into next gen. They've always been deep enough to satisfy my need for simulation and stil be fun too, but when you look at 2k football it has always bled simulation despite not being perfect either (those ugly *** run animations) but my point is simulation seems to be 2k's bread & butter with realism and authenticity to the sport always being portrayed. Where as EA sports games; while they may be flashy and pretty just happen to have licensing of the sport down and are watered down sims that only partially represent the sport having physics and simulation take a back seat to a still fun, but arcade experience.

this is where the whole exclusive license thing is so...bad! let people choose what they wanna play....i have fun wit M10....but everyone knows even the so call EA fanboys when it comes to realism & authenticy of the nfl the guys ova at 2k is on a whole other level....i feel if ya like Madden buy Madden & if ya like 2k buy 2k,but how things are now we don't have that choice...! I take no sides....all i want to play is true nfl football....i consider myself as a NFL fanboy!

I'm really thinkin bout actually gettin both games i already have 2k reserve like always for the past 4 years & i have really really considered gettin Live this year....this where i like that the choice is in the consumers hands.

In general, 2K presents a better visual experience. EA prides itself on creating said sports game to accurately duplicate that particular sport. EA made and makes a more realistic football game, but arcade like basketball game. 2K makes a better looking basketball and more authentic basketball game, and made a visual masterpiece, but unrealistic football game.

I'm still trying to understand how 2K5 is more "realistic" than Madden outside a few animations and the outstanding presentation. U made a good point about 2K5's run animations but to hear people tell it, there were shrunken football players stuffed into the disc!! The lore of 2K5 has REALLY gone above and beyond. I still own my PS2 disc and even popped it in a few times in recent months, including 2 weeks ago and man, the myths and urban legends about that game are immense. The most fun thing about that game is the first person play, for me, and was apart of the reason I bought it, back when it release.

superstarshad hit it on the head, though. I always got attacked if I tried to even express that. Again, it's the lore but it may spread to 2KSports, in general. EA and 2K has pluses and minuses but try bringing up legitimate minuses against 2K - Whuuaa-boy.
As saintsnation said, I am an NFL fanboy and that expands to sports, in general. I don't take sides just to take sides. I will get in that *** REGARDLESS of which company made what. I liked Madden 2005, I liked NFL2K5, I liked NBA 2K9, I liked NBA Live 09. I can like both and don't feel a need to take a side like sooo many people do. I just like what I like and take it from there.

Great comments, 2k5 was great, but overated at times because of it's flawless, and I mean flawless presentation. Watching that game is exactly like a Sunday night football broadcast. Saintsnation hit it on point that the battle between NBA live and NBA 2k is great specially this season. Madden vs NFL 2k would be too. We know 2k football game would be amzing by know but we have to be realistic if 2k had been around all these years then madden would he much better today too.

I think that 2K's advantage over EA was more for presentation than gameplay (minus NBA 2K).

2K's hockey game was one of the best in the early 2000's but has suffered recently. EA's NHL series is currently the pinnacle of emulating hockey.

FIFA is regarded as the best soccer game on any console.

MVP Baseball, before the exclusive 3rd party license went to 2K (Which is funny since the only exclusive deal anyone refers to is that of the EA-NFL license). 2K's baseball game is terrible.

This year, Live has finally made the leap to compete with 2K.

In regards to NFL 2K5, the game was sweet. However, playing it today it doesn't even come close to Madden 10. The one thing that 2K5 had that still has not yet been "copied" is the inclusion of in-game, post-game and other highlights from around the league.

The run animations, even then, looked like a guy running with his stick up his butt.

EA has made huge strides to right the ship and bring fun back into games. Live is looking good and both football offerings (regardless of all the whining I have read in forums) are rock solid.

I believe 2k try's to make a true authentic simulation of sports as where EA try's to make a sports game that appeals to everyone, even non-sports fans.
