And god bless even more the high end specialists who are willing to take your crappy insurance and fix the problems the other guys cause.

My house finally has a contract on it after nearly two years on the market. Lord knows what I will spend my money on with my half of the mortgage payment.

Well, technically, since I'm going through Financial Peace University right now...it's going to go to my emergency fund and 3-6 months of expenses fund...but once that's over, I'm finally going to have some BLOW money.

I'm very happy I don't have any debt outside of that blasted house.

Yeah, I didn't go for fair in the divorce. She kept most of the stuff and the house till it sold, as well as most of the credit card debt she racked up. Our divorce was quick and to the point.

I may have mentioned this before, but it's definitely top of mind tonight: For a lifelong radio guy to suddenly find himself dealing with video is a real chore.

Conceptually I pretty much get it, but damned if I'm not a lost ball in high weeds when it comes to trying to edit even stuff that should be idiot proof (like multiple still frames) in Adobe Premiere. It's nothing more than a glorified P'Point slide show for crying out loud but I've spent most of the last hour trying to figure out how to extend the duration of a damned title slide with no success.

Grr. Just fucking Grrr.

I've seen about a dozen or so episodes of the show Whale Wars, and tonight I watched the Whale Wars episode of South Park. Man, they destroyed those guys and pretty much everything they said was spot on. Not only does nothing happen on the show most of the time, but I think the biggest "victory" I've seen was one time they got close enough to shoot some red paint balls on to the side of the Japanese vessel......hurray, red paint. That'll teach 'em.

Their biggest lose was when a Japanese ship rammed one of their ships and sank it.

I think the Japanese are winning that war.

(I guess they do enough harassment to affect the Japanese ship's ability to catch whales, but the show makes it look like a colossal waste of money. Millions spent to shoot some red paint. Good job guys.)

Not super familiar with Premiere, but, is the title slide one that you made or is it from one of the provided stills? Most video apps allow you to drag the edges of a clip on the timeline to extend them or shorten them.

I think in the preferences you can determine the default length of a slug or title. Final Cut defaults to 10 seconds and you can go in there and change it to whatever length you like. I would be surprised if Premiere did not have this feature as well.

Thanks JK, your advice is spot on ... but doesn't seem to work for me.

You're supposed to be able to drag the edges, but no matter what mode I'm, dragging/moving anything keeps doing something else. It either tries to relocate the slide (which are all imports from Photoshop Elements, btw) to the next segment or simply moves my position on the timeline, it never lengthens the clip.

The default, which is based on the type of file imported, is 5 seconds. You can set a global default higher for slides upon import, but I'd still have same problem, as I need the slides to have different durations. There's also a place where you can manually adjust the duration for each individual slide by simple replacing the :05 with another value typed it & while it appears to work (i.e. it stores the new value I've typed), upon playback every slide stays at 5 seconds.

I finally had to give up, in hopes of being shown what I'm doing wrong (or how to do it right) by someone at my son's school this afternoon when I'm there for related stuff.

You're welcome.

I guess one workaround with those clips is to make duplicates of them and then razor blade them to the length that you need and delete the portion that you don't need. So say if you needed one clip to be 13 seconds (assuming the original is 5 seconds), make 2 copies for a total of 15 seconds and then cut 2 seconds off the last clip. Wonky, but, should do the trick since it's a still photo.

Also, don't know if you've ever heard of it, but, there's a site called the Creative Cow that has a bunch of forums for video editing broken down into app specific forums. It's free and you don't have to register unless you want to ask a question.

Good luck and it's probably a good chance that someone at your son's school knows.

ONCE I FIND THE BRUTAL AS FUCK MOTHERFUCKING GUITAR PLAYER I LIKE, WE WILL FUCKING GO FROM FUCKING THERE…YOUR FIRST EMAIL NEEDS TO INCLUDE MORE THAN ‘HEY I’M FUCKING BRUTAL, TOO, CALL ME’. YOU MUST HAVE MP3S, YOUTUBES, OR SOMETHING SIMILAR AVAILABLE FOR ME TO JUDGE BY, AND DON’T THINK SOME FOOTAGE FROM 10 YEARS AGO WILL CUT IT EITHER GRANDPA, RECENT, AND GOOD QUALITY. DeSoto beat Sullivan last night 27-14. Played on a nice turf field in front of some hoosiers. It's a field where all the fans sit on the same side. The other side opens up to the local country club's golf course.

When we arrived, I thought, heh, check that out. That's cool.

Then the golf carts arrived and I realized you didn't have to have class to be part of the country club. Bunch of drunk hoosiers in golf carts cat calling the game behind our bench.

We had a strong fog roll in for the game so that was neat...but we likely lost our starting quarterback on the first play from scrimmage due to a broken collarbone. What a bummer.

Sullivan also runs the double wing, but doesn't run the wedge nearly enough and completely screwed themselves by having splits between the linemen.

Someone just tried to steal our credit card number. And they're apparently local since their plan seemed to be to intercept the FedEx package they ordered to be sent to our address. Fuckers.

Did they use all of your contact information or did they use a cell phone for the phone on the order...basically, did they leave any hint of who they are when they placed the order?

How much are you willing to pay for blazing fast internet?

In the global race to see who can offer the fastest Internet service, an unlikely challenger has emerged: Chattanooga, Tenn.

The city-owned utility, EPB, plans to announce on Monday that by the end of this year it will offer ultra-high-speed Internet service of up to one gigabit a second. That is 200 times faster than the average broadband speed in America.

There is one caveat: the highest-speed service will cost $350 a month,

Surprisingly fun time watching a middle school football game this afternoon, several of my son's classmates were playing so I kind of know a few of them myself.

Leading all the way & winning 34-16, it's kind of easy to relax and enjoy, but it was really a kick to see our star do his thing. An 8th grader playing football for the first season of his life, he had 4 touches on offense resulting in 3 TD catches for about 150 yds total, 1 TD run for another 52 yds and no play under 45 yards. He also picked off a halfback pass despite the rest of the defense being fooled & having to make up a ton of ground coming from the wrong side of the play, also made a TD saving tackle on an opponent who just thought he had turned the corner and had nothing but 60 yards of daylight in front of him. He didn't count on the flash of green that bumped him OOB with ease at about the 35 :)

Like watching greased lightning relatively to everyone else on the field, could probably start for our varsity right now (and we're 3-0 so far with only 14 pts allowed & 11 scoreless qtrs out of 12 possible, it's not like we're awful or anything).

Winter should be even more fun. I'm told his real skill is basketball, that football is just something he's giving a try for fun. I hope he's enjoying himself, because I was certainly happy to pay $4 to watch him play.

When I give my Visa Debit to the chick working at McDonalds, and I temporarily lose sight of it for a moment.....this is like having unprotected sex right? I might be fine for months, even years. But eventually using the card is going to result in an STD.

They used an e-mail address, which I haven't been able to dig anything up on. I'm not clear if it was a phone order or e-mail, because my wife was dealing with the store. Something they did make the store think twice though.

For lunch, today, I am eating a chicken mushroom salad sandwhich. My wife found and then foraged a chicken mushroom growing on a stump of a tree in a park near our home while walking our dog yesterday. This is the second time my wife has foraged a chicken mushroom in our neighborhood.

The sandwhich is tasty.

It's a "chicken mushroom." It's not shaped like a chicken, but the "meat" of the mushroom looks, feels and tastes a lot like a cooked chicken breast. It's pretty surprising.

I had never known such a thing existed before the first time she found one.

That's how I've been spinning this to my wife. Before, her role in the zombie apocalypse was really just dying and, thus, fueling my never-ending rage against zombies that would turn me into the tormented and brooding, yet surprisingly effective leader of mankind against the zombie hordes.

Now, she's excited by her new role of survivor/forager.

Adoptive parents are so awesome. There's nobody I respect more. There's almost 7 billion people in the world. We don't need any more. Yes, it's kind of cool to have a kid that looks and acts a little like you - but isn't that just the personification of narcissism? Every birth brings us closer to the tipping point, but every person who adopts really makes the world a better place.

Don't get me wrong, I HATE mushrooms, but, I love chicken and if there's a mushroom that tastes like chicken, that just increases my odds of survival. Coupled with the fact that I HATE fish worse than I hate mushrooms. So, I'm willing to take that risk and even though malls are one of the worst places to go, I'd hit up a book store and find some kind of botanical guide (with pictures) to help try and prevent that from happening.

Steven J. Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky finally going on trial for 2007 killing of Connecticut's Petit family - NYPOST.com (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/justice_at_long_last_looming_in_OM6jQdyISUGkIvq9O3ud0J)

Since the first days following the murders, a gag order has been in place, preventing officials from speaking to the press.

Defense lawyers have been whining that Dr. Petit has been allowed to speak freely, while they remain muzzled.

"We can't take the daily battering," griped Hayes lawyer, New Haven Chief Public Defender Thomas Ullman.

Apparently, the defense is trying to paint the police as sharing in the responsibility for the deaths in this case.

At the risk of offending any defense attorneys here...I wonder what it's like having a job where being a POS is standard operating procedure.

Good call

I'm still of the belief that having kids should be opt-in not opt-out. And it's frustrating that any idiot that can't figure out a condom can have kids but you have to be in the top 10% of parents for the state to give you the chance to raise one if genetics fails you.

DeSoto Dragons lost a heartbreaker last night. Down 21-0 just one minute into the second quarter, the team scored with 1 minute remaining in the half to bring it to 21-7.

DeSoto came out in the 3rd to score twice and tie it up. Fort Zumwalt North replied early in the 4th with a score to take the lead. DeSoto then scored with 2 minutes remaining to tie it again.

Into overtime and FZN missed a field goal just inches to the right. We fumbled away our opportunity. Second overtime we go four and out. They convert a 30 yard field goal.

I've tried to deal with this dynamic by taking a hard line on the "I don't edit content, all I do is wrap the appropriate html/php/ajax/javascript around it and present it" but unfortunately, the average business professional only seems to have a vague understanding of spelling and grammar...and I have too much pride in my work to let stupid stand.

I imagine I'm not the only person who regularly receives content that immediately gets sent back with a "are you absolutely certain you want to put *this* in front of the public as is?" only to find himself embroiled in a 25 message committee email exchange that rewrites one paragraph two dozen different ways--all worse than the original--before ultimately just going, "You know what? But my thought is more random. What is Ahmadinejad's typical NYC travel itinerary? Where does he stay in town? Is he monitored 24/7? Is he hitting the Carneige Deli or a Broadway show? Killing some jews?

Can someone help me explain to my boss that maintaining 40 production websites and all the related content management do not constitute "a trivial portion" of my time and job description in a way he'll understand it.

I had an assbag of a boss like that. Made some grand declaration that certain parts of my job should only take up a certain percent and anything over that shouldn't be occuring and then he would fill up the rest. Of course, his numbers were way off. That's ok, after a year our customer issue backlog was at 200 when it should have been around 30.

Guy was a real suckup weasel POS. Would make up stories about how people on the floor were having certain issues with you, but never provide examples. It was always just 'people' and 'issues'. One day I just told him 'If I'm so fucking bad just fire me'

Sorry.. went off on a tangent.

Is it possible for the media to suck Vick's dick any harder then they are now?

He has had a mix of great, great plays but some real bone head throws that he is lucky weren't picked. No questioning his athleticism, but his head still isn't there to be a top notch QB.

He's been out of the game for this long; gets on the field when the starters sucks/gets hurt and plays out of his mind. The guy is 5th in passer rating this season, 13th in rushing yards (ahead of people like Joseph Addai, Ray Rice, and MJD), and 13th in passing yards (ahead of Aaron Rodgers). Why shouldn't they be all over this great story early in the season?

Do you guys Thank someone who provides a service to you? Like a cashier, do you thank a cashier for ringing up your items? or even a step further, Lets say hypothetically there is a toll booth and a man works that booth and is the cashier for it, you give him a ticket he tells you how much and you pay him and he opens the gate or whatever ,wishes you well, and then sends you on your way. Do you thank him? I have my reasons, more thoughts and posts on this coming forward, lets just say I have been doing a study for the last few weeks on this.

I agree... well anyway for the last few months, I had to go out and get some real hours and a real paycheck, and I ended up as a cashier / supervisor @ the Honolulu Airport Parking Structure. I sit in the booth a lot and check people out and have them on there way. I don't expect to be thanked, I've learned not to expect much from people these days, but I was completely surprised by how few people have been thanking me. I've been collecting data since its such a boring job and I have the time to do it. I'll try to put it together more interestingly but roughly its at about 60% or so that Thank me, or even something close to it, I've been counting "the have a good one's", "take care" "Aloha" and pretty much anything that isn't rude and more then a grunt as a thank you, but I guess going into the job I didn't think much about it, I guess I just expected the number to be higher then 60%. I was thinking upwards to 80-90% I guess. A lot of people are just plain rude and it shocks me. I'm never rude, I mean obviously thats common sense I'm working for a company that this is sometimes the first person providing a service these people see getting in to Hawaii. It doesn't bother me, I just thought it was an interesting thing to see some stats on.

I had a crazy "small world" incident today while listening to the audio book of Blind Descent (http://www.amazon.com/Blind-Descent-Quest-Discover-Deepest/dp/1400067677/ref=sr_1_1?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285449891&sr=8-1). For a small bit of back story, before I became so broken, I used to be an avid caver. I've done a lot of caving in WV and the TAG regions, as well as been involved in surveys (cave mapping), cave digging/exploration of virgin cave, and rescue (both instruction and taking classes). As such, I've met a lot of people in the caving community, one of whom is Bill Stone. I do not like Bill Stone. I thought he was a world class d-bag. Unfortunately, a book about finding the deepest caves can't be complete without talking about Stone, and I was unsure I'd want to read a book that glorified anything about him. Sure enough, the first part is entitled "Stone" and is all about Stone's introduction to caving and his exploration in Mexico.

But, now the crazy part. The book mentioned that he met a woman named Pat while in college who also happened to be really into the outdoors. She was a physical therapy student, he was studying engineering. At the time, I didn't think too much of it.

Then the book says that he married Pat, and discusses some of the craziness they did (including climbing Mt. McKinley!). At around this point, I remember that I had a physical therapist in Rockville (actually one of my best physical therapists) named Pat Stone. And I start to wonder how many physical therapist Pat Stones there are in the world. Awhile later, I recalled that Bill lived in Maryland at least for a time, and I started thinking that my former physical therapist really was his ex-wife.

Sure enough, at a point in the book, the author said that Pat Stone joined a physical therapy group at Shady Grove, doing orthopaedic rehab and had been there for 17 years...yep, she's my old physical therapist. I figured that this book would bring up people I knew in my past life and people I had heard of, but never in a million years did I think that THIS would be a connection made in the book. Also, I never knew that my old PT was a (former?) caver and climber, I wish I had known that while I was under her care, we'd have had even more to talk about...

Crazy, eh?

If I was starting a UFL-esque pro football league, I would go with 34-man rosters (or less). When I read about old-timey football, it really does feel like that's the way the game is best played - where guys need to know how to do everything to be really helpful. Gino Cappelletti, for example, played a little at QB, cornerback, halfback, kicker, punter, before really emerging as a wide receiver. THAT'S a football player.

-Artie Lange was back performing this weekend. The Stern show is still almost completely silent on him though, I wonder what that dynamic is all about. My best guess is that there's been some amount of blame, or accusations of enablilng, from Lange's family and/or the comic community towards Stern, so he's just washing his hands of the whole thing.

So, I'm back in my old hometown for a day or two but needed a place with reliable WiFi. I decided on the nice, new library...it's quiet, it smells acceptable and there are comfortable seats.

There's also a big fat guy somewhere in here who has apparently fallen asleep. It wouldn't be so bad if here didn't have terrible sleep apnea, which is creating some of the loudest snoring I've ever heard in my life. I have no idea where he is, but the noise level is incredible. Keep in mind this library is pretty big...I'd estimate somewhere around 4 or 5 acres just here on the bottom floor.

I got a redemption voucher in my email for "Swords & Soldiers" and one of the code segments was 'KFBR.'

I thought I recalled those being the call letters for the San Francisco Giants' radio flagship. Those are actually KNBR.

It's not weird that I would've tried to get a replacement voucher if the radio callsign HAD been KFBR, is it? :D

I wish that the Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego game show was available on DVD. That show ruled. Though I only saw one kid ever win the final map round. He won an all-expenses paid trip to anywhere in the U.S. and he chose "Arizona". As silly as the choice was, I thought he should have been more specific. The producers probably sent him to a Super-8 in downtown Yuma.

Barstow anyone?

Rock-apella now on tour, maybe they do the theme song as an encore?
