Long story short..
Told a friend I was gonna watch some shows on my DVR then it's lights out...
Convo leads to what the phrase "lights out" means...
He takes it literally, as in the lights will be turned out and subsequently go to sleep..
I told him he's on crack, I've never heard someone take it like that...
To me, and what I thought was the rest of the world, "lights out" indicates I'm gonna knock the eff out, as in i just took a straight right to the jaw from Brock Lesnar

I'm confused by this story. You're saying you told your friend you'll watch some shows, and then "lights out"... you couldn't have meant you're gonna go kick the crap out of someone after watching some shows? So you're saying it's bedtime. But then you say your friend thinks it means bedtime and you think it means kick the crap out of someone?

Negative... perhaps I worded it poorly. We both had the same general idea, that I'm going to sleep. When I say lights out, I mean it as I'm absolutely exhausted and I'm gonna pass out, as in I just got knocked out. He thinks of it as you are literally gonna turn the lights out and fall asleep. Same idea, I know, just different interpretations.
larrymcg421
05-12-2010, 11:50 PM
Well I think it's actually the same thing. I've never thought of the "going to sleep" version meaning literally turn the lights off. I always assumed lights out = "nothing going on upstairs". Whether it is because of being knocked out or just generally falling asleep seems irrelevant.

Why does Olive Garden always bring breadsticks in a number equal to the number in your party plus one? If I go as a party of two, they bring three breadsticks. If I go as a party of four, they bring out five. Are they hoping to see people fight over the extra breadstick? Inquiring minds want to know.

Has anyone ever had a worse series of movies(or whatever) than Ray Liotta did from the time Goodfellas was released until now? He's the king of making a 5.6 IMDB movie which fails at the Box Office.
My brother and I were talking about how somehow Liotta and Jeff Goldblum avoided becoming A-Listers even though they were in the right spot to become them.

Meh. Goldblum was never really on track to be an A-lister. He's a bit too quirky for that. I agree that Liotta probably had a chance and screwed it up with some really bad choices.

The Goldblum Rush Is On | Movies | EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,293350,00.html)
LOL, he just found this.
By Chris Nashawaty | Jul 19, 1996
You want to talk real power? The kind of raw, hand-over-fist moneymaking marquee ballistics that make studio sharpies swoon like teenyboppers watching Elvis? Think Goldblum, Jeff Goldblum. Since he received rave reviews in 1986 for The Fly, the geeky actor has pretty much been stuck in the bush leagues, starring in films like 1988's Vibes — opposite Cyndi Lauper, no less! But look at the evidence: Independence Day just became the fastest movie to reach the $100 million mark, beating out Jurassic Park, which featured... Getting the picture?
''This moves him into a category he's never been in before,'' says Goldblum's ecstatic manager, Keith Addis. ''The phone calls I get have changed overnight.'' Of course, crediting Goldblum for the success of Jurassic Park and ID is like saying Mark Hamill packed 'em in for the Star Wars trilogy. But in Hollywood's bottom-line culture, Goldblum has morphed into a latter-day King Midas. In fact, his last six films have averaged $126 million, which, according to ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY's star-salary formula, should put his price tag at $14.6 million per flick. That makes his fee for ID — a mere $1 million or so — the deal of the century. And with Steven Spielberg's Jurassic sequel, The Lost World, on tap for next summer, producers not already genuflecting for His Goldblumness will no doubt be scurrying to sign him while he's still relatively cheap.
EW's archives are amazing btw.

So I'm in Atlanta right now with my wife and it's oddly more of a cultural center than I ever thought before planning this trip.
You have:
-historical (MLK Center, Carter Museum)
-cultural (History Center and High Museum of Art that we probably won't make it to)
-scientific (really large aquarium, zoo)
-pop cultural (CNN Center, World of Coke)
-sporting (all 4 sports and Olympic Centennial park)
I have been so pleasantly surprised and definitely recommend it as a tourist destination. The attractions cut across the spectrum so there is probably something for everyone.
(Our days- Sat:Carter/Braves, Sun:MLK/CNN, Mon:Aquarium/Coke, Tues:Other- wife wants to see Margaret Mitchell House while I thought I'd go to the Federal Reserve Museum across the street and then we have to fly home)

Yeah, there's tons to do here. I also recommend Six Flags, if that's your thing.
High Museum has a really cool exhibit now called Allure of the Automobile.
One of the coolest attractions in Atlanta right now is Dialogue in the Dark, where you get to experience what it's like for a blind person. You geta tour guide who is blind and you move through different rooms, having to find your way around and figure out where you are. It's a fascinating experience.

Not sure if you can get them (prolly not I'd guess) but we have just started seeing delicious ones in our supermarkets out here in MA from Westminster Cracker Company (I think it's called...don't have it in front of me). Once had a hell day where I took the red-eye from SFO to LHR, getting to London around that same time, 7:30am. Had a meeting in central London from 9:30 to 12:30, then had to head back to the airport to fly to Munich for a 4pm to 6pm meeting. Afterward we headed to a biergarten for the evening festivities. So, I've got a ton of praise earlier in the thread for Atlanta so I don't want to take a huge crap on that, but, well the airport still sucks.
They need at least one more damn runway and 2 more terminals to make it even close to having enough space. I always make the comparison to O'Hare, which is slightly less busy than it is but when there's no weather (which can be a huge problem), it runs like clockwork. Atlanta has 2 less runways than O'Hare and feels like it has 2/3rds the terminal space but still has more traffic. So you're always waiting in line for a gate when you land, which backs planes up coming into Atlanta and you're always in a line 5~15 deep trying to take off. It's stupid beyond belief.

One of my "friends" just posted this on Facebook:
I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United
States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation
Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all....RememberThis?
Not Allah, not Buddha, not man, UNDER GOD! We need to bring back
the meaning of Our Country's PLEDGE!!! Repost if you agree....AMEN!
I really, really want to reply and tell her that the Pledge didn't have the words "Under God" added until 1948, but don't want to start a religion vs atheism war.

Yeah. This. I've decided that unless I'm willing to endure the "batshit crazy" for laughs that it's impossible to have a discussion with people like that, because they don't respect reason + logic + facts.
It's like beating your head against a wall of stupid.

Wikipedia (I know, I know) says that it was written by a Baptist minister (which your Facebook friend should love) who also happened to be a "Christian socialist."
Yes, it means exactly what you think it does.

Maybe not so much more Jesus...but could you guys smile more in your pics? I AM starting to wonder if you guys have teeth. :D
I smile! Too wide sometimes ;)
She's self conscious about the gap in her front teeth (which isn't that big at all), while I embrace it!!
Thanks for all the cute comments, y'all :)

Sun Shang Xiang is as annoying on film as she is in the novel. And yet, my affinity for Wu grows because I just really like the Sun family and can identify to some degree with Sun Quan.
Xiao Qiao is pretty hot and awesome in Part 1.
I want to see Warlords since that's early in the book and I'm hoping for an appropriately selected Diao Chan.

I really need a couple/three owners for the RWBL. OOTPX.
I really wish I had the time to devote to an OOTP league these days. I miss being in online leagues, I just don't have the time.

I keep having dreams that I'm back in school showing up for a test and thinking "I haven't been to class all semester". How does my brain not realize I've been out of school for 7 years?

It's great that you saw Food Inc. Yes, I know what it's about. Yes, I'm still going to eat my burger. Leave me the fuck alone.

I still have these dreams regularly. I dream all the time that I signed up for a class and didn't ever go to it.

Same here. It'll never stop. In my case, it's about a class that I did skip all the time because 90% of the grade was based on the final.

It's Wednesday. I'm a little irritated at work this week due to a big workload, a conversation with my partner yesterday, and then the events of today.

I still have dreams that I'm in the Air Force still, but, with the way I look today. I've been out since 95.

It's definitely cruel, since I'm still the same rank as I was in 95.

Was eating a Clif Builder's Bar the other day while driving into the office after my shift. It had melted a little in my car, and I ended up getting some chocolate on my nose. I wiped it off my nose and licked it off my finger because hey, who wastes chocolate?
I looked over to my left and the driver in the lane next to me was giving me the dirtiest look...took me a second to realize that I must have looked exactly like I picked my nose and ate it. Awesome :)
If I have a few too many drinks in me I think I can dance... I can't.
