Braves Hammer Carpenter; Trounce Cards 12-3

Chris Carpenter watched his ERA balloon from 1.93 to 4.28 as he was dashed into a thousand pieces today by the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. Carpenter would labor 4 innings, surrendering 8 earned runs on 10 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. The loss was his first decision of the season.

Brian McCann would go 4-5 with 5 RBI's including a homerun and a triple. Chipper Jones would score 3 runs while going 2-5 and Garret Anderson would also collect 4 hits in 5 trips.

Charlie Morton would get the decision for victory as he would go 8 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 10 hits, striking out 4 as he moved to 3-0 on the season.

The lone bright spot for the Cards would be Chris Duncan and his first homerun of the season.

Cards Avoid Sweep; Squeeze Past Braves 3-1

There is hope for Ramon Martinez.

After being repeated pushed around on the mound for most of April, giving up 29 hits in 20 innings with a 7.20 ERA, Ramon showed that he still has the right stuff.

Martinez was dominant tonight as he would complete 8 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, walking one and striking out 7 as the Cards would squeak by with thier first win in a series with the Braves that has been difficult to swallow.

Rick Ankiel would hit a two-run 415 foot shot over the center field wall for his 4th homerun of the season while Yadier Molina would also go deep for the first time this season rounding out the scoring for the visiting Redbirds who are anxious to split town after losing two of three to the Braves.

Manny Ramirez struggled at the plate, going 1-4, but striking out 3 times.

Chipper Jones would go 2-4 and drive in the Braves only run as Derek Lowe would throw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, and walking one while fanning 8 in the loss.

Chris Perez would pick up his 7th save in the month of April.

Kyle Lohse would pick up his 4th win of the season and his first complete game as he would hurl 9 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, walking 2 while striking out 7 in a 5-1 Cardinal victory against the lowly Nationals in our nations capital this evening.

Cards Explode; Crush Washington 8-3

The Cards would torch the Nationals Jason Bergmann for 5 hits and 5 earned runs in just 1/3 of an inning tonight sending his ERA soaring to 10.13 as we begin the month of May.

St. Louis would get big nights from Albert Pujols (4-5) and Manny Ramirez (3-5, HR, 3 RBI) as Rick Ankiel would also drive in a trio of runs giving him 18 RBI's on the young campaign.

Todd Wellemeyer would be solid once again as he would toss 6 2/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, walking one and striking out 7 while Yadier Molina would also hit his 2nd triple of the season.

"Our starting pitching has been great lately and that has been the key. With the bullpen struggling overall, its a great thing to have such talented starters", said Tony Larussa post-game.

Daniel Cabrera was solid in the loss, going 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6 of the free-swinging Redbirds.

The Cards are 14-11 with the win and have won 3 straight.

Ramirez Hits Pair Of Bombs In 13 Inning Marathon

The St. Louis Cardinals jumped out to an early 4-0 lead this afternoon in Washington on a pair of Manny Ramirez homeruns, each scoring Albert Pujols whose singles proceeded the bombs.

The lead would be short lived as the Nationals would storm back on a big inning as Chris Carpenter would surrender a pair of homeruns to Ryan Zimmerman and Elijah Dukes in the fourth inning as the Nationals would take a 6-4 lead into the top of the ninth where the Cards would tie the game on an RBI double by Khalil Greene and an RBI single by Yadier Molina.

Each club would trade runs in the 12th as Ryan Ludwick would hit a solo homerun before Nick Johnson would tie the game once more in the bottom of the 12th with an RBI single.

Khalil Greene would come up large once again in the 13th as he would drive in the winning run with his 2nd double of the contest.

"It felt great to be a big part of a win like this. Does a lot for me to help the team", said Khalil post game.

Ryan Ludwick was 4-7 with a double, a homerun and an RBI while Albert Pujols was 3-6, scoring twice.

Manny Ramirez homeruns were his 6th and 7th on the season and his 3rd in his last two games.

Chris Carpenter had his second consecutive rough start tossing 6 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits while fanning 3. The emerging ace of the Cards bullpen, Brad Thompson, was huge tonight tossing 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing 4 hits while striking out 3 bringing his ERA to 2.96 on the season.

Collin Balester was solid for the Nationals only allowing 5 hits in 7 innings, although he allowed 4 earned runs while fanning 6 before St. Louis would explode for 12 hits over the final 5 innings of play.
