Game 1
Tex's Grand Slam breaks O's back
Troy Patton finally came back down to earth tonight. The rookie pitched five innings giving up four runs on eight hits. He walked four and struck out two. His first two innings weren't to bad but then for three consecutive innings he gave up runs. In the third, Robinson Cano drove in Russell Martin with a single, 1-0. The fourth inning Gardner singled to center and Andruw Jones scored, 2-0. A-Rod hit a solo shot in the fifth, then Swisher singled and Posada hit a double scoring Swisher, 4-0. The Birds started to fight back in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Wieters scored on a JJ Hardy double and then Hardy scored on a Felix Pie double, 4-2. Patton was pulled for Alfredo Simon in the sixth. Simon loaded the bases up and pitched his way out in that sixth inning. Jeremy Accardo got the call for the seventh inning. Accardo gave up a single and then walked two, loading the bases for Mark Teixeira. If you remember Teixeira hit a homerun in the tenth inning of the O's only loss to the Yanks in New York. Well today he was in an 0-2 count after fouling off four straight pitches, on the fifth he went yard for the grand slam. Baltimore would add two more in the eighth, but it was to little too late. Yanks take the opener 8-4.
The bullpen has been the achilles heel this year, this was was the third straight loss where the bullpen was the cause. There has been no word from the front office if they will try to make a move for relief help or not. NY starter Freddy Garcia netted his second win by going seven and a third innings with only two walks and striking out seven.

Game 2
Homer Happy O's Power Past Yanks, 9-2
Derrek Lee led the homerun parade. He started off in the first inning with a two shot blast driving in Brian Roberts. In the third inning Vlad Guerrero led off with a double and Mark Reynolds promptly crushed a homer to left. In the bottom of the fourth Derrek Lee hit his second homer of the game, this time a solo shot. After Vlad doubled again after Betances, Joe Girardi pulled him after three and a third. Andrew Brackman was his replacement. The fourth pitch he threw to Luke Scott, he bombed a shot to right field scoring Vlad and hitting his first homer of the year and the O's fourth and final in the game. At that point they led 8-0 through four. After Adam Jones singled in the seventh, he stole second. Brian Roberts then doubled to score Jones.
"I'm loving that duo right now. Adam (Jones) hitting ninth has given us more opportunities to score, because Brian (Roberts) is such as good hitter." Manager Showalter on Jones and Roberts' play this year.
Now the offense shouldn't get all of the attention tonight. Starter Jeremy Guthrie went the whole nine yards. His first seven innings were scoreless and he only gave up one hit through those seven. New York added four hits and two runs in the final two innings but Guthrie walked one of those runs in. "He was masterful tonight, he's pitching like a top of the rotation guy. I'm glad he's ours" Showalter said about Guthrie's performance.

Game 3
Bullpen Woes Continue, Yanks Take Rubber Match in 9th
The Orioles killer did it again. The hometown kid Mark Teixeira hit another big homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. Brian Matusz left the game with a 3-1 lead. He pitched very good game, going seven innings with one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts. He was poised to win his fourth game of the year. Kevin Gregg gave up a solo homerun to Andruw Jones in the eighth, it seemed harmless. Then in the top of the ninth closer Koji Uehara came in to presumably save the game for the O's. As Dana Carvey would say doing his George Bush Sr. impersonation "Not gonna do it". Teixeira hit the first pitch Uehara threw, a slider that didn't break inside, tied game, blown save. Then the wheels came off, Uehara gave up four more runs by the time Jim Johnson was warm. Johnson gave up the sixth run of the inning after he bobbled a Jeter dribbler (scored an E1). The Yankees pulled Sabathia in the seventh and brought in the lefty side arm thrower Pedro Feliciano. He shut the Birds down. Adam Jones did get a two run homer in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough. The damage had already been done.
The glaring weakness in this ball club is the bullpen. It's becoming more and more evident every close game the O's play in. There is a feeling the bullpen is going to let the team down and it has. The reputation of this club right now is stay close, get to their pen and beat them late.

Roster Managment News
Closer Koji Uehara has been relieved of his duties. Mike Gonzalez will take over the closer job. Kevin Gregg will stay as the setup man. Uehara will be relegated to middle relief. There is also a rumor, at the end of the month the O's will call up veteran RP Mark Hendrickson from AAA and option Jason Berken down to AAA. Hendrickson has a 3.12 ERA in 8.2 IP and a 0.58 WHIP, so far this season. The rumor was provided by an un-named source in the O's front office.
Next Update will have the Series Preview for the Red Sox.
