Re: Detroit Tigers: Going for Broke in 2012 (MLB the Show 2012)
Tigers Break 4 Game Losing Streak With 11 Run Sixth Inning
The Tiger bats were largely silent for 8 innings. Thankfully they were not silent in the 6th inning. The Tigers sent 14 men to the plate with the first 11 hitters of the inning all reaching. Prince Fielder hit a three run homerun and Miguel Cabrera hit a 2 run homerun in the inning. Both Boesch and Cabrera had two hits in the inning and 2 runs. Royals starter Felipe Paulino, who had been pitching well through five was unable to record an out before departing after giving up 4 straight hits, including the Fielder homerun, to the open the inning. Royals reliever Jose Mijares then came in to give up six hits, 2 walks, and 8 runs, all earned, before departing without recording an out. Vin Mazzaro came in to mop up and threw 4 scoreless innings, including retiring the only three batters he faced in the 6th, but by that point the damage had bee done.
Tigers ace Justin Verlander threw seven solid innings, giving up one run and 4 hits while striking out eight. Brayan Villarreal threw the last two innings of the night. For the Tigers, Cabrera had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Fielder also had 3 RBIs. Victor Martinez had 3 hits and scored twice. Royals left fielder Alex Gordon had 3 hits, including 2 triples but was stranded each time. The only Royals run came when Eric Hosmer singled to left, stole second, reached third on a Verlander wild pitch, and then trotted home on a deep ly to right by Jeff Francoeur.
Detroit improved to 5-5, while the hapless Royals fell to 1-9.

Re: Detroit Tigers: Going for Broke in 2012 (MLB the Show 2012)
Tigers Boot Away Victory, Lose to Royals 6-5
The Detroit Tigers committed three errors on their way to a road loss to the Kansas City Royals Wednesday at Kaufmann Stadium. It was just the 2nd victory of the season for the Royals against 10 losses. Detroit got off to a fast start as Austin Jackson led the game off with a homerun. The Tigers added a 2nd first inning run on a double from Prince Fielder that scored Miguel Cabrera. The Royals got a run right back when Max Scherzer threw away Alcides Escobar's bunt. Escobar stole second and scored on a single by Eric Hosmer, who was thrown out by Delmon Young trying to stretch the hit into a double. Fielder again doubled home Cabrera in the third to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. However in the bottom of the inning, the Royals got two runs back, aided by an error by Fielder. The Royals took the lead for good in the 6th after Miguel Cabrera threw the ball low to first and Fielder was unable to scoop it. From there the Royals scored two runs on consecutive sacrifice flies. The Tigers pulled back within one in the top of the 7th when Austin Jackson singled home Jhonny Peralta, who had reached on an error by Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, playing his first game of the season after coming of the Disabled List. The Royals got the run back in the bottom of the 7th inning on an RBI single by Hosmer. The Tigers got one run back in the 9th when Alex Avila doubled and was then knocked home with a double by pinch hitter Brennan Boesch. However Austin Jackson grounded out, advancing Boesch to third. Ryan Raburn pinch hit for Ramon Santiago, but grounded out to end the game.
Detroit fell to 6-6 and heads back home tonight in order to open a homestand against the Texas Rangers on Thursday night.

Re: Detroit Tigers: Going for Broke in 2012 (MLB the Show 2012)
Solid win in the series opener against Texas. Hopefully Cabrera can start hitting for a better average. If he starts hitting around .285 or so, that middle will be lethal... More lethal than it already is.

Re: Detroit Tigers: Going for Broke in 2012 (MLB the Show 2012)
Tigers Miss Opportunities, Lose 6-3 to Texas
Detroit certainly had its opportunities in this one. The Tigers left the bases loaded in the 1st, 8th, and 9th innings on their way to a 6-3 loss to the Texas Rangers. Victor Martinez struck out and Delmon Young flied out in the 1st after singles by Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera, and Prince Fielder had the sacks filled with one out. In the 8th, Young again failed to get a run home with the bases full and in the 9th Jhonny Peralta struck out to the end the contest with the tying run on first. The Rangers struck first when Ian Kinsler hit a low sinking line drive to center in the 5th with two Rangers on base. Tigers center fielder Jackson was unable to come up with the play and the ball scooted past him and to the wall. Two Rangers came around to score before Kinsler stopped on third base with his 2nd triple of the game and a 2-0 Texas lead. Detroit answered back in the bottom of the 5th on a Cabrera RBI single to cut the lead in half. In the 7th, Tiger starter Rick Porcello gave up a two run HR to Mike Napoli and then reliever Joaquin Benoit gave up a two run single to Adrian Beltre, leaving Texas up 6-1. Detroit got one back in the 8th on a Tiger solo homerun from Cabrera and a 2nd run back in the 9th on a Boesch RBI double but were unable to complete the big inning in either case.
Detroit fell back to .500 at 7-7, while the Rangers improved to 6-8.
