Game #18
TEXAS 7, SEATTLE 4

Mitch Moreland goes yard in the second inning off of Hisashi Iwakuma.

4/19/13
Arlington, TX (AP) – The Seattle Mariners starting pitching let them down for a second consecutive night as Hisashi Iwakuma was lit up for six runs in the first three innings in a 7-4 loss to the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers hit three home runs as the win moved them ahead of the Mariners and moved the M's into the American League West basement with an (8-10) record.

Mitch Moreland got the fun started for the Rangers in the bottom of the second, hitting a three run home run off of Iwakuma to put the Rangers up 3-1. Ian Kinsler, moved down to ninth in the order due to his struggles, broke out in this one, going 3 for 4. He followed Moreland's home run with a triple and he scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

Raul Ibanez had put the Mariners up 1-0 with a solo home run just inside the right field foul pole in the top of the second.

Kendrys Morales lined a two-out RBI single to center in the third but was thrown out trying to advance to second, as the M's cut the Rangers lead to 4-2.

But once again, Iwakuma could not get outs. Adrian Beltre worked a 10 pitch at bat to open the bottom of the third and finally homered to straight away left. A.J. Perzynski then lined a two-out single back up the middle to score Lance Berkman to move the Rangers in front 6-2.

The M's would try clawing back as Ibanez hit an RBI double in the sixth, scoring Morales as the Mariners closed to within 6-3. Joe Saunders came out of the bullpen in relief of Iwakuma and was surprisingly effective. He came in with an ERA of over 11, but pitched 3 1/3 innings and only gave up a solo home run to A.J. Perzynski in the bottom of the eighth.

Seattle would try to manage a rally in the ninth as Michael Saunders doubled home Dustin Ackley who had tripled. But closer Joe Nathan came on and caught Franklin Gutierrez looking to end the game with the American League home run leader Mike Morse on deck.

Alexi Ogando (3-0) pitched a four hit shutout last week in Seattle against the M's but was not as effective on Friday night. He went seven innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four and walking one.

The Rangers made three errors in the game. It was the second straight loss by the M's in which their opponent made three errors. On Thursday afternoon, Miguel Cabrera made three errors for Detroit.

The series continues on Saturday evening with Blake Beavan (2-0, 1.16) looking to extend his great start to 2013, going up against Matt Harrison (1-2, 7.56) who was rocked by the Mariners last week in Seattle.

Game #19
TEXAS 5, SEATTLE 3

A.J. Pierzynski lined three doubles in the win.

4/20/13
Arlington, TX (AP) – The Seattle Mariners got a solid pitching performance from youngster Blake Beavan, then watched as their bullpen imploded again in a 5-3 loss to the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Saturday evening. A.J. Pierzynski went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two RBIs to help lead the Rangers to the victory.

Seattle (8-11) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Michael Saunders homered to right off of Matt Harrison. The two-run shot was Saunders fourth round tripper on the season.

That lead did not last though. Elvis Andrus reached second on an infield single and throwing error from Kyle Seager. Adrian Beltre lined a two out single to center to score Andrus cutting the lead in half. Nelson Cruz slipped a single through the left side of the infield and A.J. Pierzynski worked an 11 pitch at bat before lining a double off of the wall in right to score both Beltre and Cruz to make it 3-2.

Blake Beavan would settle down from there and would not allow another run as he pitched seven innings, scattering 11 hits and striking out four.

The Mariners would tie the game in the top of the sixth. Kelly Shoppach doubled to right center and advanced to third on an infield single by Jason Bay. He would score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

Seattle also blew a couple of opportunities in this game. In the top of the fifth, Robert Andino was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a fly out to left fielder David Murphy. In the top of the eighth, Kyle Seager was gunned down at the plate by Murphy on a single to left to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, A.J. Pierzynski greeted reliever Charlie Furbush with a lead off double. Mitch Moreland singled to right, but pinch runner Craig Gentry stopped at third. Carter Capps came on in relief of Furbush and struck out Ian Kinsler, then intentionally walked Leonis Martin after pinch runner Jurickson Profar stole second, to load the bases and setup the double play.

Pinch hitter Lance Berkman came up and Jason Bay made a bad decision. He caught a deep foul fly ball in the right field corner, allowing Gentry to tag up and score, giving Texas the lead. Elvis Andrus then doubled to score Profar to make it 5-3.

Joe Nathan came on in the ninth to nail down his fifth save.

The loss was Seattle's fourth in their last five and dropped them 3 1/2 games back in the American League West.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with Brandon Maurer (1-1, 2.53) matching up against Derek Holland (1-2, 3.72).

Game #20
SEATTLE 7, TEXAS 1

Jason Bay has come up big in spots in 2013.

4/21/13
Arlington, TX (AP) – The Seattle Mariners ended a three game losing streak with a comfortable 7-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Rookie Brandon Maurer pitched seven strong innings to help the M's end their losing streak as they ended their series in Texas.

Texas (9-10) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third. Ian Kisler led off with a single up the middle, and then stole second. He scored on an RBI single by Leonis Martin.

The Mariners finally broke through against Derek Holland in the fifth. Kendrys Morales walked to open the inning. Jesus Montero singled. Kyle Seager would triple off the wall in right center, scoring both Morales and Montero to put the M's up 2-1. Jason Bay doubled to left, scoring Seager. Bay would score after advancing on a flyout and scoring on a groundout by Brendan Ryan.

Jason Bay homered to right in the seventh. The two-run shot was his second on the season. Bay went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs in the game.

Brandon Maurer (2-1) went seven plus innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing just one run. He struck out six and walked one. Derek Holland (1-3) took the loss for the Rangers. He allowed four runs on four hits in five innings of work.

Seattle (9-11) will now head to Houston for a three game series with the Astros.
