Game #24

SAN DIEGO 3, ARIZONA 2

Ryan Schimpf's sixth inning home run proved to be the difference.

4/27/17
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The San Diego Padres took the final game of their four game mid-week series at Chase Field on Thursday evening with a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The DBacks had no answers for Padres starter Christian Friedrich as he allowed just one run in seven innings of work.

game24b_17Goldy went deep to extend his hitting streak to 21 games.
San Diego (12-12) would break a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth off of Robbie Ray. Manuel Margot doubled off the wall in left to open the inning. Wil Myers singled back up the middle to drive in Margot one out later. It was Myers second hit of the series after starting it 1 for 14. He advanced to second on the throw by Pollock. Myers would score on a Yangervis Solarte two-out RBI single to make it 2-0.

The DBacks would get one back in the bottom half of the fourth off of Christian Freidrich. Paul Goldschmidt hit a long home run to left, his sixth of the season, to cut the lead in half. He had extended his hitting streak to 21 games in the first inning with a single to right.

The Padres would get a big insurance run in the sixth as Ryan Schimpf hit a two-out solo home run to left to make it 3-1.

The Padres turned to their bullpen in the eighth. Carter Capps worked a perfect eighth and Brandon Maurer came on in the ninth. He gave up a solo home run to Jake Lamb to get the DBacks within one run, but they could not finish the comeback as Maurer picked up his seventh save. Lamb's home run was his National League leading ninth home run on the season.

The DBacks (14-10) will now host Colorado for a three game weekend series to wrap up the homestand. Shelby Miller (1-2, 3.00) will go up against Chad Betts (1-0, 4.15) in the opener on Friday night.

Shelby Miller was dealing on Friday night.

4/28/17
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks opened a three game weekend series at Chase Field with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Shelby Miller allowed just one run in six strong innings of work to earn his second victory of 2017.

game25b_17Goldy doubled to center in the fourth to extend his hitting streak.
Arizona (15-10) would get on the board early, plating one in the first. Jeremy Hazelbaker started off the inning getting hit by a pitch. David Peralta singled to right. Hazelbaker would advance to third on a Paul Goldschmidt flyout to right, and scored on a Jake Lamb sacrifice fly to center.

In the fourth, Paul Goldschmidt doubled to left to open the inning and extend his hitting streak to 21 games. David Peralta followed that with a double to center, scoring Goldy to make it 2-0.

Colorado (9-15) would finally get on the board in the sixth on a Nolan Arenado RBI single after Ian Desmond opened the inning with a triple to center. That would be the only run that the Rox would score in this one.

Shelby Miller (2-2) worked six innings, allowing the one earned run and scattering six hits. He walked two, while striking out six. Archie Bradley was perfect in the seventh and eighth, while Fernando Rodney struck out the side in the ninth to earn his sixth save.

The series continues on Saturday night with DBacks ace Zack Greinke (2-2, 4.28) going up against Rockies rookie Jeff Hoffman (0-2, 4.79).

Game #26

Rookie Jeff Hoffman tossed a complete game shutout for the Rockies.

4/29/17
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – All of the sudden, the Arizona Diamondbacks offense has gone silent. On Saturday evening, rookie Jeff Hoffman tossed a complete game shutout for the Colorado Rockies as they shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 at Chase Field. Hoffman won his first Major League game, allowing only five hits, while striking out five and walking nine.

game26b_17Chris Herrmann got doubled off of third to end a seventh inning rally.
Colorado (10-15) would get all the offense that they would need in the second inning thanks to two unearned runs off of a Jake Lamb error. Lamb dropped a Carlos Gonzalez pop up with one out in the inning. Gonzalez would move to second on a wild pitch as Trevor Story struck out. D.J. LaMahieu would then hit an RBI double into the left field corner to put the Rockies up 1-0. LaMahieu would then score on a Dustin Garneau single through the right side that David Peralta misplayed in right field. Jeff Hoffman would strike out, but reached first on a wild pitch. Charlei Blackmon then struck out to end the inning as Zach Greinke recorded the rare four strikeout inning.

The Rockies would get some more two out magic in the fourth. Carlos Gonzalez led off the inning with a double to left. Trevor Story struck out and D.J. Lamahieu flew out before Dustin Garneau lined a single to right to score CarGo as the Rockies went up 3-0.

That would be all the runs that Greinke would allow as he pitched very well. He went eight innings, allowing just the one earned run (two unearned) on five hits. He struck out 11 and did not issue a walk in lowering his ERA to 3.67. Tom Wilhemsen worked the ninth.

Paul Goldschmidt extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a fourth inning single.

The series and home stand wraps on Sunday afternoon with Taijuan Walker (3-1, 4.06) taking the bump against Jon Gray (2-1, 2.48).

Charlie Blackmon's two run blast in the seventh was all that Jon Gray and the Rockies would need.

4/30/17
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off a brutal 10 game home stand with a second straight shutout loss to the Colorado Rockies 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. Jon Gray went 8 2/3 innings, scattering six hits and striking out five to pick up his third win in April.

game27b_17Jon Gray shut down the punchless DBacks offense, shutting them out for a second straight day.
The Rockies (11-15) would get all of the offense that they would need in the seventh inning as Charlie Blackmon hit a two-run home run to right off of Taijuan Walker. They would add a big insurance run in the top of the ninth off of Jorge De La Rosa as Carlos Gonzalez reached on an infield single allowing Ian Desmond to score a third run.

In the bottom of the ninth the DBacks would show some life. After Jon Gray got A.J. Pollock and David Peralta to strike out, Paul Goldschmidt singled to right to extend his hitting streak to 23 games. Gray then hit Jake Lamb to end his night. Greg Holland came on and hit Yasmany Tomas to load the bases. He then got Chris Owings to pop out to end the game, earning his fifth save and securing a Rockies series win.

Taijuan Walker (3-2) was the hard luck loser, going eight innings and allowing two earned runs on just four hits. He struck out eight and walked none.

Arizona (15-12) finished the 10-game home stand at (3-7) and are just (7-10) at home in 2017. They will now hit the road to take on first place Washington and Colorado.
