Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Angels Sink Mariners 6-5

Anaheim - The Mariners could not put away the Angels on Sunday afternoon. Twice pulling in the lead with home runs first 3-0 before LA clawed back to 3-3. Then after a Mitch Haniger bomb made it 5-3 M's, Kole Calhoun answered right back with a two run shot to tie it again at 5-5 before the Angel's snapped the tie in the eighth for a 6-5 win. Seattle still managed a split against the division leaders after an abysmal home stand saw them go 1-5. Seattle will get a day off in Southern Cal tomorrow before they have a quick two game series in San Diego. That series starts Tuesday night with Wade LeBlanc (1-2, 5.12 ERA) taking the mound against Eric Lauer (0-3, 7.63 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 pm.

White Sox, Giants Among Teams Off to Surprising Hot Starts

Chicago - The White Sox youth movement was thought to take a year or two to develop, but the Sox are already seeing dividends as they've jumped out to a 14-7 start, scoring a ton of runs in the process. Led by OF Daniel Palka who has already hit 8 home runs and has an AL leading 27 RBIs. The White Sox have racked up an impressive 110 runs already this season, and a +14 run differential. Meanwhile out west in the National League, the San Francisco Giants appear up to their old tricks after a disappointing couple of seasons. San Francisco is doing it with their pitching and defense however allowing just 76 runs so far this season as they have jumped to first place early in the NL West. It will be interesting to see if these two teams can keep pace with their hot first month of the season.

Mariners Offense Explodes for 20 Hits in Rout of Padres

San Diego - The Mariners dugout showed little signs of panic after falling behind early. Maybe they knew something no one else did. Seattle's offense erupted for 20 hits, and they coasted to a 10-6 victory over the Padres on Tuesday night. Seattle was led once again by Domingo Santana, who after a very shaky first couple weeks of the season has exploded in the last few games. He had his second two home run game in the last four, and five RBIs. One area of concern was Mariner third baseman Ryon Healy, who is replacing the injured Kyle Seager had to leave the game in the first inning after he jammed his hand sliding into third base. Dylan Moore stepped up however going 3-4 after being inserted into the game. Seattle will look to complete the two game sweep tomorrow afternoon when they send Felix Hernandez (2-2, 3.75 ERA) to the mound to face Nick Margevicius (1-1, 4.58 ERA). First pitch will be at 12:40 pm.

Mariners Can't Hold on to Lead in Loss to Padres

San Diego - The Mariners jumped out to 5-1 lead on Wednesday afternoon, and looked poised to coasting to another win, but the Padres touched up Felix Hernandez for five runs in the sixth inning, and got a breakthrough in the ninth after a Tim Beckham error, and Dan Altavilla wild pitch set the Padres up to score the winning run, and San Diego came from behind to upend the Mariners 7-6. San Diego was helped offensively by their big offseason acquisition Manny Machado, who crushed a home run and double off of Felix to help bring the Padres back into it. Seattle got a big day from Ryon Healy, who is making it more and more difficult to figure out what the Mariners are going to do when Kyle Seager returns from injury. For now the M's will just be focused on this weekend, and a four game series with the Texas Rangers that starts tomorrow night.

Mariners Down Rangers 3-2

Seattle - Led by a dominant performance by Marco Gonzales, the Mariners were able to hold on for a 3-2 win on Thursday night. Domingo Santana kicked off the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, but the bats went quiet after that until the sixth, when Seattle was able to knock starter Adrian Sampson out of the game. Marco Gonzales was able to hold the Rangers off the scoreboard until the eighth inning, when Nomar Mazara finally put the Rangers on the board with a solo home run. Roenis Elias came on to get Seattle out of the inning, and then Anthony Swarzak was able to hold on in the ninth after giving up a solo shot of his own. Seattle will look to string two in a row together tomorrow when they send Yusei Kikuchi (0-1, 3.89 ERA) to the mound to face Drew Smyly (0-3, 11.81 ERA). First pitch will be at 7:10 pm.

Mariners Suffer 9-1 Loss to Texas

Seattle - The Texas Rangers scored three runs in the first inning, and never looked back as they played add-on with Yusei Kikuchi and the Mariners staff resulting in a 9-1 blowout win. Mitch Haniger provided the only offense for the Mariners with a solo home run in the third inning, as Seattle could not string the rest of their hits together. For the Rangers the main damage came from former Mariner Shin-Soo Choo, who hit a home run, and ended up driving in four runs as he finished a triple shy of the cycle. Seattle will look to get back on track tomorrow when they send Mike Leake (0-3, 5.19 ERA) to the mound to face Shelby Miller (3-1, 3.82 ERA). First pitch will be at 6:10 pm.

Rangers Sink Mariners in Extras

Seattle - The Mariners were able to tie it up after Texas took the lead in the 10th, but the Rangers busted out for three runs in the 12th and beat the Seattle Mariners 7-4 in extra innings on Saturday night. The loss knocked Seattle into last place for the first time this season in the crowded AL West, but the Mariners are still showing resolve early on. "It's a long season" said Manager Scott Servais after the game. "We're six games back. The Angels are hot right now, we're going to get one of those hot streaks too, we're playing good ball, just gotta put it all together." Seattle will look to start to put it together tomorrow afternoon by earning a split with these Rangers. It'll be Wade LeBlanc (2-2, 5.55 ERA) taking on Lance Lynn (1-3, 5.87 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:10 pm.

Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Mariners Catch Tough Break During 5-1 Win

Seattle - The Mariners were able to earn a split with the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon picking up a 5-1 win, but that was far from the main concern on the day. Outfielder Mallex Smith, who had been the teams best player so far on the season had to be taken off the field after sliding into second base with his seventeenth stolen base on the season. This was after his third hit on the day which was his Major League leading 52nd on the year, as Smith was enjoying his finest production to date at the MLB level, but the Mariners had fears after he slid in hard, and Smith left the field holding his right arm. X-Rays after the game confirmed the worst, that it was a fracture, and Smith is expected to miss anywhere from 8-12 weeks with the injury. This is a crushing blow for the Mariners who were looking for a spark to jump them into the division race, and losing their most productive hitter the first month of the season is going to put a major blow in those plans. Seattle will get a day off to figure out how they want to deal with it roster wise with the expectation that OF Braden Bishop will be called up to fill the hole. Seattle will resume play Tuesday when they welcome the Chicago Cubs to T-Mobile Park for an interleague tilt. It'll be Felix Hernandez (2-2, 4.91 ERA) going to the mound against Yu Darvish (3-0, 2.36 ERA). First pitch will be at 7:10 pm.
