The San Francisco Dons (34-4) are headed to the Final Four for the second consecutive year! Led by an unexpected hero in Bernard Mendoza, who scored a career-high 24 points on 9-for-10 shooting, the Dons erupted in the final minutes of the game to claim an 87-77 victory over the #1-seeded Michigan Wolverines (31-6) to win the West Regional Title.

Michigan led early on and held a 39-38 lead at halftime. The game was back-and-forth throughout most of the second half as neither team could gain a lead of more than a few points. But in the final minutes, the Dons seized control as they went on a run to gain a double-digit lead.

Owen Kole had solid outing with 11 point and 11 rebounds, but his other frontcourt mate, Bernard Mendoza, stole the spotlight as he totaled 24 points and 7 rebounds. Perhaps more impressively, Mendoza shot 9-for-10 from the field on his career night.

San Francisco was able to take advantage of Michigan's lack of size down low as Michigan's starting froncourt stood at 6'7", 6'6", and 6'8" compared to San Francisco's 6'5", 6'9", and 7'0".

"We just kept on feeding our bigs down low and it worked," explained Coach Frizzell after the game. "We had a size advantage, just like against Duke, and we exploited it."

Coach Frizzell was also happy about making the Final Four for the third time in his 12-year career. "I just hope we can win a game there this time," said Coach Frizzell. "I'm 0-2 in the Final Four so far in my career, so hopefully we can add a win or two to that."

The #4 Richmond Spiders of the Atlantic 10 blew out the #2 Oklahoma State Cowboys in the East Regional Final, so the San Francisco Dons will match up against the Richmond Spiders in the Final Four. The other side of the Final Four bracket will feature #1 Maryland, winner of the Midwest Region, against #5 Georgia, a surprise winner out of the South Region. Only one #1 seed made it into the 2019 Final Four, which will be played at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.

Thanks, guys!

BTW, I'm considering lowering my half lengths to 15 or 16 minutes. While I love playing 20 minute halves, my stats are a little high on the high side. Running with 15-16 minute halves would be about perfect pacing-wise for the games I have been playing lately. A lot of my games this year have had 65-75 shot attempts per team, which is too high. The detriment of playing 15-16 minute halves is that my minutes per game stats would be out of whack.

Oh boy! I'm liking this Final Four. My favorite team and nice representation for the non-power conference teams. Maybe you'll get a rematch in the Natty of last years Final Four.

I've read this whole dynasty before I got an account but that was back in your Princeton days with Lulugba and Swift and crew. I haven't followed as much once you got to San Fran but good luck in the final four!
