Houston Chronicle – Texas Southern improves to 2-0 after making a lineup change and beat up on the Alcorn State Braves in Houston. “We are capable of doing this every night from here on. We play in a conference where talent is not very sporadic and many of the players aren’t expected to drop 40 a night. In a guard laden, fast paced offensive league, we will try to implement our bigs. We will try to hold the ball, we will try to keep composed no matter the time. That is our strategy and when we play to our strategy as we did last night, I see a number 1 seed in the conference tourney in our future. If we play like we did early in the Prairie View game, I see us being one of the 3 teams left our of the tourney. It is that simple. Now I cant suit up, nor can I predict the game, but I can help our athletes. What I can do is put them in winning opportunities, give them athletic opportunities and overall give them the opportunity to enjoy a game that they love. Overall, I hope we can play the same way against Grambling and try to establish ourselves in the SWAC conference”. The Tigers will take on Grambling on Saturday and hope to improve their overall standing position within their conference.

Houston Chronicle – The Tigers were hoping to keep their current winning streak alive and they were successful. With a conference game against Grambling, the Tigers simply dominated their foe, never giving them the opportunity to lead at all during the game. “Once again, I knew we were capable of this,” said Coach Williams to reporters. “We were able to play our style of slow basketball and we were able to come out with the victory. One thing we were able to learn was about the future of this program. In the rotation, I have 3 underclassmen get very good minutes.(Jones, Walker, Harris,) After gaining one complete season of slow ball under their belts, they will be able to run other teams out of the gym. My offense takes some getting used to, but once you have a grasp for it, other teams wont be able to stop you. My point is that giving these players minutes early in their careers will benefit the team because I will have 3 veterans next season that I can depend on in key situations. And those are just the underclassmen I speak of not returning players. I will still have Drewy and Norwood to depend on and help teach the incoming freshman about our style of basketball. Just felt that was a side note that the media would be interested in. Now we have to get back on a bus and play a Jackson St team who will be looking to improve their SWAC standings as well”. The Tigers will face the Tigers on next Monday in what will be another key SWAC Matchup.
