Feb. 14th NBA Power Rankings |
RK (LW) | Team | Record | Next Game |
() | Oklahoma City Thunder | 45-10 | The Thunder have gotten off to an NBA-best 45-10 start heading into the All-Star Break. OKC is outscoring teams by 13.6 each game. A few minor injuries to Kevin Durant haven't slowed them down in the slightest. |
() | Miami Heat | 35-16 | The reigning NBA Champions are atop the East at the moment, though they've lost 5 of their last 10. LeBron James is once again the front runner for the MVP award, but Wade's regression (16.2 PPG) might halt their success. |
() | Portland Trailblazers | 35-18 | Portland is a surprise so far as the 2nd seed in the West, and LaMarcus Aldridge is putting together an MVP-like season. He's averaging 27.2 PPG, 10.9 RPG, and 2.3 APG. He's arguably the best big man in the game today. |
() | Los Angeles Clippers | 34-21 | Blake Griffin might have a case for best big man in the game, as well. He's averaging 26.5 PPG, 10.1 RPG, along with 4.1 APG. Jamal Crawford has been a surprise, as he's averaging 20.2 PPG. |
() | Cleveland Cavaliers | 35-18 | Kyrie Irving has taken the next step toward "elite level." He's got 27.3 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 8.0 APG. Dion Waiters has come along as well, but what about 1st overall pick Anthony Bennett? 2.3 PPG. |
() | Houston Rockets | 32-21 | The Rockets are just 17-17 in conference play, which will have to improve if they want to be a contender in the West. Luckily for Houston, James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Chandler Parsons have meshed well. |
() | Memphis Grizzlies | 31-21 | Memphis is hot right now, having won 7 straight. Mike Conley might just be the best player nobody's talking about, as he's averaging 19 PPG, 8 APG, and 5 RPG. Impressive. |
() | Indiana Pacers | 30-22 | The Pacers aren't as dominant as we thought they'd be, but their still 3rd in the East, which might give them an advantage in the Playoffs. Paul George has taken the next step towards being a superstar. |
() | Denver Nuggets | 30-21 | Denver is tied with Golden State for the 6th seed in the West. They have an astounding seven (!!) players averaging double digit points in Lawson, Chandler, McGee, Foye, Faried, Robinson, and Gallinari. |
() | Golden State Warriors | 31-22 | Technically, Stephen Curry is leading the NBA in scoring with 29.1 PPG. However, he's played in just 33 games this season, as he's suffered more ankle problems. |
() | Chicago Bulls | 28-24 | Chicago has only won 4 of their last 10, but with their defensive dominance, they should make a ton of noise in the Playoffs, as long as they can still healthy (looking at you, Derrick Rose). |
() | Washington Wizards | 28-24 | The Wizards are on their way towards their first winning season since 2008. John Wall is finally living up to the hype, but some injuries have derailed him as of late. |
() | Minnesota Timberwolves | 28-26 | Even though 'Sota is below .500 in the conference (17-18), they find themselves hanging onto the 8th seed in the West. Arguably the most fun team to watch in the league, the T-Wolves are hoping to make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. |
() | Detroit Pistons | 28-25 | Detroit's weird frontcourt experiment is kind of working, for now. They really need to find a way to spread the floor, though, or else they're going to struggle come playoff time. |
() | New Orleans Hornets | 26-26 | The Pelicans are the first of several odd-men out in the Western Conference Playoff Picture. They're just one game behind the Timberwolves for the 8th seed. |
() | Sacramento Kings | 26-27 | The Kings are right behind the Pelicans. The shocking thing about Sacramento is that they are 19-14 in the Western Conference, which means they're just 7-13 against the weak East. |
() | San Antonio Spurs | 26-28 | San Antonio was off to an awful start, but have kind of picked itself up off the floor. They're 10th in the West, and one would think that if they were to sneak into the Playoffs, they'd be a threat to any team. |
() | Boston Celtics | 25-29 | The Celtics were projected to tank the season away, but Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger had other ideas. Sullinger has broken out as a legit big man, and Rondo is... Rondo. |
() | Charlotte Bobcats | 24-29 | Charlotte is the 8th seed in the East so far, and Bobcat fans can all thank Al Jefferson for that. He has 21.1 PPG, 10.3 RPG, and 1.5 BPG in his first season in Charlotte. |
() | Toronto Raptors | 23-29 | Toronto is right at Charlotte's door for the 8th seed, and they are knocking hard. Demar DeRozan is 3rd (or 2nd, if you consider Curry ineligable) in the league in scoring, which is actually kind of mind-blowing. |
() | Atlanta Hawks | 22-30 | The Hawks get the nod over New York here since they've won 6 of their last 10. Paul Millsap and Al Horford have become one of the best frontcourt duos in the league in Atlanta. |
() | New York Knicks | 22-30 | The Knicks have won just 4 of their last 10. Injuries have plagued the team as of late, and one would have to consider the year to be a failure if they don't make the playoffs. |
() | Phoenix Suns | 20-31 | Though the Suns don't have much of a chance of making the playoffs this year, they're still in great shape for the future. Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic are playing sooo well together, they just need a more reliable supporting cast. |
() | Orlando Magic | 22-32 | Orlando got off to that surprisingly hot start to the season, but they have since fallen back to the cellar of the East. Arron Afflalo was on his way to the All-Star game before he got injured a few months ago. |
() | Milwakee Bucks | 21-31 | The good news for Milwaukee is that Brandon Knight is coming into his own as a starting point guard in the league. Giannis Antetokounmpo is turning out to be the steal of the draft. |
() | Dallas Mavericks | 20-34 | The Mavs had a fire sale this past month, as they traded away veterans Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, and Jose Calderon in exchange for Trevor Booker, Danny Granger, and Hedo Turkaglu. |
() | Los Angeles Lakers | 20-33 | The Lakers have been lost all season, with and without Kobe Bryant, who is currently nursing a broken finger. It's looking more and more like Steve Nash is on his way to retirement. |
() | Utah Jazz | 16-36 | Utah might have lost to Philadelphia last night, but they don't mind. They're just looking to get as high of a pick as possible, since they've completely fallen off after their hot start. |
() | Brooklyn Nets | 16-35 | What a disappointment. The Nets are just 16-35 and are 14th in the East. Kevin Garnett is retiring after this season, and there were reports of a Paul Pierce trade at the deadline. |
() | Philadelphia 76ers | 12-42 | The Sixers are a league-worst 12-42, and it appears that they're gunning for one of the top talents in this year's talented draft class. |
