In the dynasties I have played through with Tennessee, the ones that give me trouble are the first 3 you listed, but sub out South Carolina with Vanderbilt. For some odd reason rivalry week always hurts me because I can never beat both Kentucky and Vanderbilt twice. I ALWAYS lose to at least one of them once, and normally it's Kentucky.

But, I'm honestly surprised at how well the recruiting is going. In my other Tennessee dynasties I've done my first class is normally like 1 5 star, the rest are 4 stars who aren't very highly ranked.

Tennessee was led by Senior PF Tyler Smith who had 30 points on 14 of 20 shooting. This was Smith's 2nd 30 point game in Tennessee's last 5 games. SG Scotty Hopson ended with 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Hopson is really getting back into a rhythm after his dreadful performance vs. Ole Miss. C Wayne Chism was 2 points away from another double double. Chism had 8 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Then, backup Center Brian Williams was 1 point and 1 rebound away from a double double as he ended with 9 points and 9 rebounds in just 18 minutes. A stat worth noting, is that the Tennessee bench made more 3's than the Tennessee starters did.

Georgia was led by PG Devan Downey. Downey scored 24 points and shot exactly 50% from the field in the game. C Mike Holmes had a very solid performance as he scored 19 points and grabbed 7 boards. Downey and Holmes combined to score 43 of Georgia's 66 points which is 65% of the points scored.

Tennessee's next game is on the road at Alabama on January 19th. Then, after that, is rivalry week when the Vols will take on Vanderbilt and Kentucky twice.

The first half was a pretty exciting to watch. The score would go back and forth until Tennessee went on a 6-0 run to end the half. After halftime, Alabama played one of the worst halves of basketball they will play all year... If not THE worst.

Tennessee was led by Senior C Wayne Chism. He didn't score the most points, but he had an OUTSTANDING game! Chism ended the game with 15 points and 18 rebounds, which was about half of Tennessee's rebounds as a team. Scotty Hopson was the high scorer in this game as he put up 24 points on 9 of 13 shooting, including 4 of 6 from behind the 3 point arc. At one point, Hopson made 3 straight 3's on back-to-back-to-back possessions! Tyler Smith also had a really good game as he scored 23 points on 10 of 18 shooting. If you don't add up Bobby Maze and the benches shot attempts, Chism, Smith, Prince, and Hopson combined to make 31 of 46 attempts, which is 68% from the field!

Alabama was led by PG Senario Hillman who scored 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting. PF JaMychal Green was 1 rebound shy of a double double, as he scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Then, coming off the bench was True Freshman Tony Mitchell, who scored 11 points in just 11 minutes of playing time. He is going to be a REALLY good one in a few years.

Tennessee's next game will be 6 days from today as they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at home to start off Rivalry Week.

The Rivalry Week schedule looks like this:

January 25: vs. Vanderbilt
January 26: @ #3 Kentucky
January 30: @ Vanderbilt
January 31: vs. #3 Kentucky

These were the two strangest halves of basketball you'll see this year. Vanderbilt completely dominated the first half, while Tennessee dominated the second half and came just 5 points short of an improbable comeback.

Tennessee was led by Senior PF Tyler Smith who was VERY effective tonight on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Smith scored 23 points on 10 of 12 shooting including a dunk where he completely posterized A.J Ogilvy! Wayne Chism got another double double tonight as he scored 12 points and had a game high 12 rebounds. J.P Prince was very efficient scoring the ball tonight, as he scored 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting. PG Bobby Maze only played 14 minutes tonight because of foul trouble.

Vanderbilt was led by A.J Ogilvy who just had his way in the post against Wayne Chism. Ogilvy scored 20 points on 10 of 12 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds. PG Jermaine Beal had a very good game as he scored 20 points and dished out 7 assists. And John Jenkins was very effective shooting beyond the 3 point arc as he hit 4 of 8 shots from 3 point land and ended up scoring a total of 16 points. A late 3 by Jenkins is what kept Vanderbilt in the lead and ultimately gave them the tough, upset victory over their instate rivals.

Tomorrow, Tennessee will play their toughest game all season... On the road to face the undefeated, 21-0, Kentucky Wildcats.

For about 30 minutes it seemed as if Tennessee would pull off the upset. But, Kentucky's insane depth got the best of the Vols as the Wildcats went on a 15-4 run to end the game.

Tennessee was undoubtedly led by Senior PF Tyler Smith. Smith score a game high 27 points on 8 of 16 shooting and also made 10 of 11 free throws. Besides Smith, there were no real key players who were big contributors. Scotty Hopson was the only other Vol who scored in double figures, but he missed 13 shots and was 1 of 10 from behind the 3 point arc. One highlight for the Vols was that they shot 73% from the free throw line, which was better than Kentucky. Another key stat is that Tennessee completely shut down the Wildcats freshmen stars as they combined to score 11 points.

Kentucky was surprisingly led by Senior 6th man Perry Stevenson. Stevenson scored a team high 21 points on 8 of 16 shooting. JUCO transfer Darnell Dodson scored 19 points for the Wildcats. The Wildcat defense may be the best defense in the country and it showed today. The Wildcats held the Volunteers to shooting just 31% from the field and a pathetic 19% from behind the 3 point line.

Tennessee will try and get things back on track by playing on the road at Vanderbilt on January 30th and then they will come back home to play the Wildcats again on January 31st to end Rivalry Week.

January 30, 2010: #12 Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt

Tennessee Volunteers at Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt (13-6)403777

Tennessee was led in this game by Senior PG Bobby Maze. Maze is averaging just 6.4 points per game so far this year, but he put up 25 points in this game along with 8 assists. Maze was absolutely on fire shooting 3's as he made 5 of 7 attempts. Maze's last 3 with just over 5 minutes left in the game was the dagger for the Commodores. Tyler Smith finished with 20 points on 9 of 15 shooting. Only two other Vols scored in double figures, and those two were J.P Prince and Scotty Hopson. Prince had 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting, while Hopson finished with 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

Vanderbilt was led by True Freshman SG John Jenkins. Jenkins had a team high 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting, including 5 3-pointers. A.J Ogilvy was the only other Commodore to finish with more than 10 points, as he put up 17 points and he grabbed an astonishing 17 rebounds as well. The turnovers by the Commodores starters are really what doomed them. The starters combined to turn the ball over 17 times.

This was a great bounce back win for the Volunteers over their instate rival. Now, the Volunteers end Rivalry Week tomorrow night as they face the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats at home.

UNDEFEATED NO LONGER!!! Tennessee took down the previously undefeated Kentucky Wildcats as the fans stormed the court in Thompson Boling Arena!!

Tennessee was really carried by Tyler Smith, J.P Prince, and Scotty Hopson... Only one other Vol made a field goal besides those 3. Scotty Hopson led all scorers with 23 points on 9 of 20 shooting including 4 3 pointers. J.P Prince had 21 points on 8 of 21 shooting and he had a thunderous dunk that brought the crowd in TBA to it's feet, which gave Tennessee the momentum it needed to complete the comeback victory! Senior Tyler Smith also had a good game as he scored 14 points while being guarded by DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson throughout the game.

Kentucky was once again led by Senior 6th man Perry Stevenson. Stevenson scored 18 points in just 24 points off the bench and was key in a late first half run that gave the Wildcats the lead. DeMarcus Cousins was 1 rebound short of a double double as he finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Then, coming off the bench was True Freshman Center Daniel Orton, who scored 10 points in just 13 minutes played. Once again, John Wall and Eric Bledsoe were held in check in the game. Wall did not have a good game at all only making 1 of his 6 field goal attempts, and he turned the ball over 7 times.

Tennessee pulls off the improbable upset and takes down the FORMERLY undefeated Wildcats! The next game for the Volunteers is February 4th when they take on the South Carolina Gamecocks at home.

Congrats on beating the Cats. Bringing back memories with T. Smith, Chism, and Hopson. Same with seeing Bledsoe and Cousins on the Cats roster.
