We Have the Magic-Orlando Magic 2k16

Using the Orlando Magic for my 2k16 dynasty. I am doing 1 team control, but I will keep on eye on things, edit contracts, and make deals for other teams as I seem fit.

I have a lot of people whose stuff I am using so I want to thank them all:

Sliders: ThatMichigan's fan

Myleague Settings: Let's Ball Baby

Roster and Draft Class: EmbraceThaPace

Lastly I am going to try and use the playbook suggestions from This Thread He put a lot of work into it, it is certainly worth a read.

Thanks to all of these people for their hard work, it is appreciated.

Magic Announce Starting Lineup

Coming into the preseason, 4 out of the 5 Magic starters were entrenched. Payton and Oladipo is the clear backcourt. Harris and his new contract are locked in at a forward spot, and Vucevic is the clear center. The last starting spot was in question. Coach Skiles said there were several choices. Going in many fans assumed Aaron Gordon would start at the 4, with Harris at the three. However, as the preseason went on, they looked more and more at playing Haris at the four. Harris is an offense mismatch against most 4, and Skiles feels he will have a better time guarding fours than threes. Harris is a sold rebounder, and that should be enough with The Magic seem ready to move toward the trend of small ball that is taking over the NBA. This revelation lead to fns pushing for rookie Mario Hezonja to get a starting nod at the three. Skiles decided against that. He wants to easy Hezonja into the NBA game a little bit, and he said he envisions Hezonja being the leading scorer. As a result Skiles chose Evan Fournier to get the last starting spot. Skiles said "Evan played pretty well for this team last year, we feel his outside shooting is a good fit in the starting lineup, and gives us another scoring option. Skiles wanted to emphasis that Hezonja and Gordon will have big roles despite not being starters,"These two young guys will be our two biggest players off the bench. They will inject athleticism and energy into our second team and will develop toward the players we expect them to be in the future" It is clear that the Magic want to play smaller and faster. Early indications that Channing Frye and Jason Smith will be odd men out of the rotations. These two high salaried veterans could become a story as the season goes on.

Season Preview

With the season around the corner, the Orlando Magic have officially put out their depth chart. There are no surprises since the starting lineup was announced.

Orlando Magic Depth Chart - 2015-16
STARTER2ND3RD4TH
PGElfrid PaytonCJ WatsonShabazz Napier
SGVictor Oladipo Mario Hezonja
SFEvan FournierDevyn Marble
PFTobias HarrisAaron Gordon Channing FryeAndrew Nicholson
CNikola VucevicDewayne DedmonJason Smith

This Magic team is young and is going to be fun. A major part of this season will be the young guys getting a lot of playing times and these guys getting better. However there is an expectation within the organization that this group is ready to make the playoffs. An interesting story line will the balancing of these two motives as the season progresses. Here are a few things to watch as the season progress that could make or break this team:

1. Backcourt shooting- Mario, Watson, and Fournier can all shoot and will be major clogs of the Magic offense. However the guys who will see huge time at the PG and SG spots are Payton and Oladipo. Oladipo took a step forward last year, but can still be sporadic at times from outside. If he wants to be a star it is important for both him and the team for him to keep on improving
Payton showed flashes of being a solid PG at the end of last year, but his shooting is a huge weakness that other teams will exploit. If he wants to become a fixture at PG in this league he has to work on it.

2. Interior Defense- Harris and Nikola will provide strong offense and rebounding at the 4 and 5. Gordon will provide athleticism and Dedmon will hopefully rebound and block shots. The major issue is guarding the paint. Playing small will give us advantages in some areas, but this is a major issue that rises up. The two young guys might be the best defenders at the spot. Elfird and Victor are strong in the backcourt which will help, but all these guys need to take steps to improve the interior defense. This might be an area the team needs to address with a midseason pickup.

3. The bench- Watson is a proven, very good backup PG. The rest of the bench is question marks. Gordon and Mario were both high picks and have overwhelming talent. They are expected to be the key guys coming off the bench. Can they help the team now while improving for the future. Both of these guys can earn starting roles later in the year.

Next up: Game 1 vs Wizards

Magic Best Wizards for Opening Night Win

wizard.jpg

Back and forth first half as no team held more than a 4 point lead. These two teams were even in almost every area. Humphries(13) and Wall(11) lead the Wizards. 10 points 4 rebounds 4 assists 2 steals for Oladipo. Harris, Hezona both scored 9 and Fournier added 8. We had a huge third quarter scoring 30(lead by 10 for Harris) on 10-20 from the field and 9-12 from the line. We held the Wizards to just 19 points on 35% shooting to take a 8 point lead into the 4th quarter. The Wizards opened up on a 7-0 run to cut it to a 1 point lead to start the forth. The game resumed the back and forth nature of the first half. With 1:30 left in a one point game Harris missed two free throws. Wall got fouled down at the other end and split his to cut it to one. Vucevic scored in the post with 25 seconds to put us up 3. Down the other end, Beal drove, but missed a layup, Nene got an offense rebound, and kicked it out to Dudley. Dudley went around the outside, and fired a off-balance three pointer. Nene got another offensive rebound and kicked it out to Wall, Wall took the deep three, it went half way down, but rolled out and the Magic hold off the Wizards for an opening night win.

Player of the Game: Tobias Harris 23 points 9 rebounds 3 steals 2 blocks 9-18 FG 1-3 3PT

Stats:

stats vs wizards.jpg

Reaction: We played a pretty good game on both side of the ball. We had trouble with Wall and Humphries, but did pretty good on everyone else including holding Beal in check. We've got issues to work out, but we showed we have the chance to be a good team on defense. Harris at the four worked out great today. He took advantage of his matchup with Humphries and Nene and got to the rim a lot with his quickness advantage. Oladipo had a good game on both sides. Gordon finished well of pick and rolls and got us big buckets in the forth. Despite struggling from three, Mario showed why we are excited about his offensive potential. Some other guys put up decent point totals, but struggled from the field. We need more out of Payton on offense going forward. All in all beating a Wizard's team is a good start to the season for us.

Around the League:
Curry scores 34 and Thompson scores 25 as the Warriors open up their season by beating the Pelicans
32 from Lebron and 30 from Love lead the Cavs over the Bulls, who bounced back the next day by blowing out the Nets behind 36 points 7 rebounds and 8 assists from Butler
Cavs improved to 2-0 by blowing out Memphis behind 25 from Love and 21 points 12 rebounds and 5 assists from Lebron
Okafor has a huge debut putting up 24 points 18 rebounds 5 assists and 4 blocks as the 76ers beat the Celtics
KD and Westbrook both put up 36 points and 12 assists, but the Spurs beat the Thunder 139-121 behind a vintage performance from Duncan 32 points 14 rebounds 5 assists and 2 blocks
The Pelicans fell to 0-2 as Damian Lillard put up 47 points(19-28 from the field!!) and 10 assists to lead the Blazers
In the duel of the first two picks Russell(21 points and 7 assists beat Towns(13 points 6 rebounds). Kobe had a successful return scoring an efficient 20 points(9-16 from the field) and added 5 rebounds 5 assists and 4 steals

Next up: Vs Thunder
