The thing is, he damn well scores about 30 a night anyway. He's an amazing player, it's hard to believe that K-State isn't a better team.

I look forward to your impressions of my settings. Are you going to try my no-switch defense rule? I really have no idea how these play without using it. It really does make defense fun and fresh, though.

Just an interesting note: Tonight, the real Missouri Tigers were ahead of the Iowa State Cyclones by the score of 69-67 in overtime before a Cyclone bucket with 2 seconds left sent it into double OT.

Now that's realism!

Spencer, first thanks for the effort and for sharing.

Nah, I won't implement your defensive switch rule. You see my competitive nature has always gotten in the way of video game house rules that handicaps my chances of winning. What I try to do is find or come up with a set of sliders that challenge me enough to where I fear losing to any team of equal or better caliber. I've tried implementing handicap house rules in the past only to abandon them when the going gets tough. Besides, I want to see how badly I can smoke the computer with challenging sliders (a way to challenge myself). BTW, I don't cheese - I love realism and I sense you do as well.

yeah, I'll share my thoughts. I've been playing 16-min halves using the AC level and occasionally I try to step up to the AA level using the same 16-min halves. I get realistic results either way but win maybe 2 games in 10 on AA. At AC I can lose to just about any team of equal caliber and even to teams 5-7 points below mine. I can also beat better teams but it's a challenge for me.

I'm a bit worried though that at 20-min halves the computer's offense will slow down to a bore. I'm also concerned I'll have to slow mine down as well to get a realistic game. One thing I really like with NBA 2k8 (and NBA 2k7 for that matter) is that playing 12-min quarters gives you super realistic results and still is a fun game. I'm hoping we can achieve the same with CHOOPS 2k8 at 20-min halves.

Try playing a few games at 20 minute halves with my settings and see what you think. In my experience, the CPU can beat you a variety of ways, including both slow-down and uptempo strategies. Same with the user — you don't have to use 30 seconds of the shot clock every possession to get realistic stats. I've tried to make it to where taking time, running plays and picking apart the defense is rewarding, but also that if there are opportunities to run the break and score quick buckets, you can do that too.

Re: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders

Spencer, I finally got a chance to play 2 games last night as my Miami Hurricanes and was pleasantly surprised with the results. See my questions to you later down about formatting boxscores for posting here. For now, let me state the minor changes I made to your last update:

FT = I set this to Real %
UNITY = I set this 15
CLUTCH = I keep this ON
FATIGUE (only made this change for the second game) = I changed it to 53. The reason is after playing the first game on 50 I realized the bench did not play enough. Keeping it at 50 really neutralize teams with deep benches and levels the playing field too much for teams without a bench. The lowest I would go here is 52 but I haven't tested that. So far 53 seems about right.

In the first game ended BC (cpu) 74 at Miami (me) 79. The second game went Miami (me) 55 at Kansas State (cpu) 73. I would post the boxscores and team stats but I dont' know how to efficiently format my post like you did in posts 7 and 11. Could you let me know how you do your formatting so I can post my stats? Right now I have them in an excel spreadsheet but when I copy them over they come out looking like what you see below:

Re: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders

Cane,

To format your scores like I did mine in my previous posts, simply type in your box score using a plain-text editor like Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac). Make sure everything is aligned how you want it to look. Then copy and paste the text into the reply field, and put the following tags around the text: (CODE) (/CODE), except make the ( ) a [ ].

The stats from your first game look pretty good, for the most part. Here's what I noticed:

• 1/13 from deep? Ouch. I've had a game like that with my most recent settings, went 2/16 against Baylor. I've also had games where I shoot over 50%.

• The FT disparity is pretty substantial. This may be where our difference in defensive strategies starts to show. Since I don't play on-ball defense all of the time, my CPU teammates pick up some reaching and blocking fouls which gets the CPU to the line a bit more often. I like this because 1) it really makes the DEF AWR attribute stand out, and 2) it's fun to yell at my computer teammates for making stupid fouls, lol. Anyway, do you think the CPU drives enough? That might help them draw a few more fouls.

• I kind of like that you weren't able to force a lot of turnovers from the CPU. That just goes to show that even at CPU Offensive Awareness at 0, it doesn't make them stupid, just less superhuman on finding cutters to the lane. Plus, I use Mizzou, so I'm pressing the whole game and have my defensive pressure almost maxed, so my CPU turnover numbers are usually in the 10-15 range.

I think that I will try out 53 fatigue as you suggested, because you are right in that starters are able to play a bit too much. So you just used 53 for both CPU and USER?

Keep posting stats, I like to see how these are working for you and others who try them. I'll do the same, although The Show and now Smash Brothers Brawl will cut into my CHoops time a bit.

The boxscore for the second game follows. Remember both teams had fatigue set to 53 for this game. Beasley hardly played because he got in foul trouble early in the first half and picked up his 4th within the first 2 minutes of the second half. He was a beast for the 12 minutes he played though. As for the low 3pt percentage again, I'm not worried about them. I don't think it's a function of your sliders. The 3pt slider is set to the same as the previous AC sliders I was using and I had games where I shot over 50%, with the occasional over 60% game. I think the poor shooting is me getting used to a new camera angle. I'm used to the 2K angle but just started experimenting with the nosebleed angle. I'm trying to get used to the release point on threes at this angle. The slider setting is about right. I als think had I been used to this camera angle the score of game two would've been closer with maybe both teams in the 60s.

You know Spencer, I think you're right about the AI defensive fouls. I noticed that most reach ins are committed by a computer controlled player. I mostly play a passive defense trying to play good defensive position and not swipe at the ball. I might try bumping up the computer drive tendancy as you suggested to see if this helps.

The other thing I noticed in both games is that the pace of the game didn't feel fabricated. I had the preconception that you would have to slow the game to a crawl to get realistic scores and stats. Instead it felt natural. The thing that we have to be careful of moving forward is as we get better we'll be challenged to tweak the sliders to make the game challenging while maintaining realism.

Thanks again for sharing. I hope you get a lot of CHOOPS 2K8 gaming in. Your sliders, combined with the new camera angle, has made this game appear new to me again. Hopefully I can play this thing for a few years. Anyway here is the boxscore for game 2:
