Re: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders

These sliders are off the chain. I just finished one more game, Miami (me) at FSU (cpu). I played my normal defense and moved Drive Tendency from 20 to 40. I kept everything else the same. The cpu was more aggressive and went to the line a ton more. In fact they doubled my FT attempts this time. They actually tried to drive and picked up some fouls on contested shot attempts while driving into the paint. The increase in CPU FT attempts wasn't completely a result of the increase in drive tendency, however. My players reached in before I could switch to them a few times. This helped to increase the number of fouls, which eventually added up to them getting into the bonus quicker.

I think I'm going to turn off CLUTCH from here on in. I'm tired of playing great defense for 33 seconds only to have the cpu make an amazing shot as the clock expires. They did it somewhere from 4-6 times this game.

Oh yeah, my 3PT shooting is coming back baby. I'm liking the hang of the nosebleed camera angle and getting the hang of it. What camera do you play on?

EDIT: I like having Handles at 0 for both. Twice the CPU dribbled the ball out of bounce. In the one of the earlier games I played I pressured the inbound pass and they threw it out of bounce twice in one game. I threw it out of bounds on an inbound pass once as well. I like seeing those type of turnovers.

Awesome! It sounds like you are starting to see some of the results that had me so excited about these sliders as well.

I'm glad that raising the CPU drive tendency to 40 helped with the FTs. I'll try it on 40 for my next couple games and see if that's a good place to have it. I'm thinking that 40 might be very close to where it needs to be, though.

I think you will enjoy the game more with clutch OFF. I've just never agreed with the whole idea of "clutch" in general. It just seems like a magical concept that doesn't align with reality, and in this game it tends to produce results like what you posted above. No, thanks!

As far as what camera I use, I go with TV Cycle 1. Nosebleeds is probably my second favorite camera, though. I just LOVE all of the options that 2k gives us with cameras... I wish other games had that kind of variety.

I love the results from having Handles and Awareness at 0 as well. My goal there was to really emphasize the fact that these are college athletes — they are young, inexperienced, and prone to mistakes. These settings allow for a greater variety of turnovers and really forces you to think twice before you jam on the isomotion stick with a big goofy power forward or center. It encourages team play and passing, which I love.

One thing I am looking at is the difference between rebounding at 100/100 and 0/0. There was a notion in the NBA 2k forums that 0/0 produces more realistic results, so I may try that out. 100/100 is producing nice results as it is, though, IMO.

I can't wait to play some more. Right now I'm doing research about a duelling case from the 1850's.

Re: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders

I had an odd game that I believe is questionable.

It was Kentucky @ Kansas
I was Kansas; this was my first time with them.

The ending score was 54-38 with Kansas winning.

Kentucky was shooting 41%, while I was shooting 46%

Would this be a realistic game?

On another note, should I bump the 3-point range up since I only scored 2/10? I shot 8 of them with Chalmers (who I believe is the best long range on Kansas).

Yeah, I'm loving the results. But it's making me realize I need to get better. I played a 3rd game UM vs Ohio State and got blown out 82-64. The stats were realistic though.

yeah, if 40 is not the right level then maybe it's somewhere between 30 and 40.

I would even go as far to say this applies to the NBA as well. I've many games where players dribble the ball off their feet, out of bounds, or just throw it out of bounds. I actually wish we could see more turnovers and even some off the ball offensive fouls, some offensive fouls where the player lowers his shoulder. The problem with video games is that everything is too mechanical and robotic.

I feel you on that. I might be able to get one game in tomorrow (Sunday). I'm traveling for business at the end of next week just when I was starting to like this game.

That's actually a final score I wish I can replicate. A score like that is quite possible in real basketball. Never thought we could see that in a video game with 20-min halves. Do me a favor and post a boxscore using Spencer's instructions as posted a few posts above. If you don't want to go throught the hassles of posting the individual boxscores the team stats will do.

Good to see you join in. Keep us posted on your results and any observations. Good gaming to you.

EDIT:
I forgot to address your 3pt woes. Personally I think the 3pt setting is right, at least for me. If you read my previous posts you'll see that I had miserable 3pt percentage in my first two games. The 3pt settings with these sliders are the same as the sliders I was using before and I had games where I shot over 50%. Now they are about where they need to be after a couple games. I think the reason I shot so poorly was because I played the first 2 games using a new camera angle and needed to adjust the timing of my release. Now I think I have good timing on that angle. This might be the case with you.

Another thing I noticed in your post is that you shot 8 times with Chalmers. ONe thing I've noticed with NBA 2k8 and, to a lesser extent, CHOOPS 2k8, is if you start out missing with a player, that player may get cold. When this happens you may have to wait for wide open looks or try to get close to the basketball for an easy bucket or two. Your player often times gets back on track. So your problem might've been that you missed your couple with Chalmers so he went cold and you kept launching them with him. More than likely your problem is a combination of the two things I've described here.

Re: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders

Here is the boxscore from my most recent game against Ohio State with CLUTCH off. I'm gonna keep CLUTCH off from now on. Man I suck. My team is rated an 84OVR against OSU who is rated an 82OVR and I still get blown out at home. I thought dumbing down the cpu awareness would've made this game too easy. Instead it appears I'm relearning to play this game. It might be due the camera angles. I've been getting killed on the offensive glass (sorry don't have those numbers for this game). I also turned the ball over a lot this particular game. Lots of steals by OSU and some dumb passes by me. What are you guys offensive rebound numbers like.

The first 10-15 of this game was really low scoring with me up on OSU something like 20-8. Then they made a run and I couldn't stop their scoring from there. I seem to have a hard time getting consistant scoring. Maybe I need to learn some plays. I usually run plays in NBA 2k8 so maybe that's my problem here: I dont' run plays in CHOOPS. I just freelance.

When you look the boxscore, notice the non-steals turnovers for both teams. I had 5 and OSU had 3. Not bad numbers.

Oh yeah, Spencer, I like your suggestion about dropping OREB and DREB to 0 for both teams. Next game I play I'm going to drop rebounds for both teams (or maybe give me a slight edge on the defensive glass until I get better). I'm hoping with dropping OREB and DREB to 0 we'll see some balls bounce off the rim and fall on the floor and go out of bounce or just bounce off and go out of bounds.

As you can see, I've incorporated DeadlyCane's suggestions of 53 Energy Fatigue Rate and 40 CPU Drive Tendency. Thanks, DC your input on those, really makes the gameplay even better. Also went to the opposite extreme on rebounding, now zeroed out for both sides, to avoid the super-human rebounding animations.

I'll continue to post stats as I have now started my legacy. More input and suggestions are welcome and appreciated! I'm very happy with the progress of these sliders. I think we are in the "Finishing Touches" stage at this point.
