You guys are seriously being delusional if you think that other than the commentary the game could be so much better if developed on the PS3 first.

Look I own both consoles, and I like them equally. There are games I like on both. I have seen some pretty impressive things on both.

The PS3 probably has a little more power potential but claiming it is far more powerful is ridiculous like some have claimed in this thread.

is pointless to waste your time with people that only have a ps3 and are pissed that their system which was suppose to be the most amazing thing since slice bread is in 3rd place after 2 years

I am still waiting for the amazing power of the ps3 to blow the 360 away.....

tick tock...tick tock

The architecture of the PS3 is horrible. Developers hate it, read the comments of the Left 4 Dead devs for some rare insight. Another reason is system sales. In the US the 360 is the clear leader.

The 360 also came out 6 months before the PS3, so that "clear leader" comment isn't really valid

Re: Why Not Develop on The PS3?

IMO, it mostly has to do with the 360 coming out first and being easier to develop for. The difference in power between the two systems really isn't much at all, and it wouldn't make sense to switch the lead system halfway through the system cycle as the developers are so used to working within the 360 architecture.

For those pointing to The Show as a fine example of what the PS3 can do, you need to realize that while it's great, there's nothing The Show does that couldn't be done on the 360 other than the larger amount of commentary, and even that could be done via downloadable content.

The quality of the game has to do with the talent of the development team, not the system it is developed on
. This is especially true when the gap between the systems is minimal, as is the case with the 360/PS3.

EA would be the last dev to max out any system, they take any and every short cut they can take. It's why their games are never trend setters in graphics or gameplay. Now if this were somebody like epic, valve lionhead, you know companys who have made huge selling titles that push the graphics and have great gameplay, then I would be worried..ea,lol thats a joke.

Re: Why Not Develop on The PS3?

The ten-year life cycle thing doesn't mean the system will stand alone for all ten years. Much like the way the PS3 overlapped the PS2's life cycle (which is just about to be dead), I'm sure the next system will overlap the PS3's life cycle.

PS - 1994
PS2 - 2000
PS3 - 2006

I would expect the next one to come along in another 3 or 4 years. The PS3 itself will continue to be developed for until 2016, at least.

If you compare either system's technology to what is currently available in PC terms, it is clear that both are sorely underpowered and already outdated. Even the RAM alone at 512MB is paltry compared to what you can get on a PC nowadays.

Chances are good the next generation will be more capable, including using HDD as a means to help buffer the load (meaning install disks are a real possibility). I think the chances of that in this generation are much lower, but it could still happen, especially on first-party titles.
