Double that development time, less bugs, more time to fully develop features etc. Each development cycle, you waste resources starting up and shutting down, fixing things from last year, which 1 fix can cause a chain reaction of problems. That is why we don't see a lot of huge changes year to year
Doubling development time means more bugs, not less which means a longer period of time is necessary to find and fix those bugs and whatever possible side-effect bugs might pop up as a result of fixing the original bugs. I also don't think as much resources and time is wasted as you think between dev cycles (although there is definitely some). In the end, I don't think it makes any difference besides us not getting an opportunity to get a product after the year and offer feedback on it.

Do these sports games really have a hard shut down though? I understand a release date does draw a line in the sand, and a certain degree of resources are pulled away to lock down that final product. But I imagine that there are other efforts that just keep plugging along towards the next year if they don't make the current year? But that is just my uniformed speculation.

I thought I remember someone on the team, or it might have been the madden team that said they got a couple months vacation before starting up again

Re: Would you Bewilling to wait 2 years for a new game?

for me it's all going to be about how the players feel when they move. Is their sliding, is there true footplanting, realistic movement? I didn't buy last year for the 1st time and I haven't been happy with these games pretty much most of this run of systems. The demo is going to be important in deciding if it's a buy for me. I've already come to terms with the fact that things will be ugly because the player models in general are ugly, but I think with a wider camera I can hopefully look past a lot of the problems.

But right now i'm leaning more towards not buying just because there are other higher quality sports games out there that can satisfy my gaming needs for the year. I thought i'd miss not having NCAA but I didn't miss it one bit. Same happened when I did the same with Madden a few years back. So if the demo is good, i'll consider buying. And if they only allow 1 camera angle in the demo, then F-U EA i'm not buying. If you're going to pat yourself on the back for a feature, we better be able to see if we like it before buying.

I wouldn't be able to wait. It's a tradition of mine to get the newest game at midnight and play the entire night. It also gets me pumped for the real life college football season by looking at all the teams and their players. I'd be crushed if I had to wait an extra year. And just as someone said earlier, there's no such thing as making a "perfect game."

Depends. If you have a really solid base game with minimal issues, then I might be willing to wait. I would want a new DLC in the off-year with updated schedules, rosters, uniforms, plus any added teams.
