The 2 most important things for me is:
1. Realism in gameplay
2. CPU ability

Madden 04 was challenging when LBs could leap 6 feet into the air to knock down or intercept a pass, but it wasn't very realistic.

It would be fun to see a defense just clamp down on me in the 2nd half, or an offense catch fire and score in 5 plays, rather than suck and just convert 3rd downs 6x on a drive.

Madden 04? You mean 14? There was none of that in Madden 04. Players hardly jumped whatsoever in that game even 99 rated.

Great on both counts, IMO. Those are the most important things to me, as well. As long as you go with Fatigue Off, default is great. If you try and leave it on, default will be just as bad, if not worse, than any slider set with it on. The only things that are unrealistic, to me, are USER & CPU completion percentages/success and the rate of interceptions, particularly with the CPU. That's why the only minor adjustments that I have made from default are in those areas. True default is still a lot of fun, but you and the CPU will be at about 75-85% in completions, quite consistently, and if you try to level that out on your end by taking some chances and throwing 50/50 jump balls, you'll be picked off way too often. Those are the only issues that I felt the need to make adjustments for.

That sounds pretty good. Even with J-Kit's, there are some unrealistic deep INTs.

How is the CPU running game?

Great at default, IMO. Haven't felt the need to touch any slider related to it. Put it this way - it's the only time I've ever had to question whether it was too strong or not. Ultimately, I decided it was just right, realizing that it was just the first time that I ever really had to give a little effort to stop it, which was a great thing. At RE, I really had to step up my USER tackling; learning to square up with the strafe button and then make the tackle. It's not always necessary, but they'll be many angles where you'll completely whiff on the tackle if you don't. You'll get used to it. I know the feeling of a welcomed challenge.

Hey. When y'all say default sliders, do you mean CPU and User at 50? Heisman or All.American?

Yes, at 50. We're talking about Heisman, but the benefits of going default on All-American are what JoshC's set is based on. I tried it, but personally didn't find an appropriate challenge out of the CPU at AA, but for others, it might be just right.

And therein lies the issue with this game. Getting a challenge while having realistic gameplay seems to be two opposite directions when trying to adjust the settings. I know that default sliders will make players do things that defy the laws of physics, but it keeps the individual ratings honest, which is my personal goal. Turning fatigue off makes it even more unrealistic in terms of realism, but it makes the game more realistic in terms of difficulty, ironically.

The most realistic gameplay I’ve seen from a physics standpoint is Matt10’s OS Community Slider Set, but I find myself taking away so many aspects of the game just to make that set challenging.

So I really don’t think there’s a perfect answer to this question other than stacking on house rules until you simply can’t win, lol!
