Re: FIFA has made me interested in soccer

I had always been mildly interested in soccer, but I guess about three years ago, I picked up FIFA 08 and really got into it. I fell in love with Glasgow Celtic and have been a fan ever since. I went so far as to get a poster and a top (though I'm searching for a legit green and white hoops jersey).

Have a look!

Pretty sure they stole that slogan from Liverpool:

Or other way around, seeing as 1892 is 4 years later.

Nobody stole it at all, Liverpool started it in 1960's.
We started it in the 1970s. There are tons of other clubs that sing it like our brother club St. Pauli. It just sticks out because Liverpool and Celtic sing it more.
It's far more than a "slogan" for us, this song is ment to help the people who have suffered from England's ruling in Ireland. It is to help our trouble with Rangers, our trouble with the SFA. It is saying our club "Walk on with hope in your heart and that we may NEVER walk alone"

To a lot ya, but to myself we even called it soccer in Scotland mate. But we call it everything from football, footie, and soccer. The lass is from Germany and she calls it soccer ha.

Re: FIFA has made me interested in soccer

I've liked soccer since the '06 World Cup, but I really started getting into it with FIFA 10. It's kinda like watching football and hockey together, and that's how I've learned to watch it.

One thing that's bothered me is the whole "who to cheer for" thing. I don't really connect with any of the European teams; the only two I've really followed are Liverpool (because of Tom Hicks and the horrible person that he is to ruin my Texas Rangers, I wanted to be a sympathetic supporter) and FC Bayern München when my pen pal in Germany started following the Texas Rangers.

The problem with this is that while it's great to watch top league soccer, we have our own league here. I've started to pull for (S)C Dallas more and more because they are part of the league that keeps soccer relevant in the United States. If we don't have these teams, then we don't have much more coverage here than before the '94 World Cup. My two cents anyways...

Re: FIFA has made me interested in soccer

Love them or hate them, I've followed Manchester united since I was 11 or 12. I dont remember exactly which cup game it was but I know it was Man U versus Liverpool, it was either beckhams first or second year but it wasnt him that made me a fan, it was just the atmosphere in general, the noise levels of Old trafford that day reminded me of the now Non-existent Cleveland municipal stadium during a browns game. It was the emotion of Man U's fa***se that made me decide...thats a team I want to follow.

I used to play FIFA 95 on my SNES with the tv so loud I blew out the speakers. football, footie, soccer, whatever, its an amazing game with unrivaled emotion from its supporters.

Re: FIFA has made me interested in soccer

Good to hear. I've always been into soccer, whether playing(video games and real life) or watching, its just so exciting. I decided to follow Barcelona a few years ago.. they way they play the great game of soccer/football is so wonderful, they play smart and they play with heart. However, when it comes to the EPL I follow Chelsea. I love the fact that some of my non-soccer playing/following friends are now into it simply because of the video games.
