@Jamie Nice England squad there, mate. Liking the call-ups for Jarvis and Ryan Taylor, though why on earth is Glen Johnson in there?

@Simppu I love the exchange between you and Mino. Did you happen to read Zlatan's autobiography by any chance?

@Tex Incredible budget! How much did you end the season with? Whatever, you got some great buys. Werner is going to be huge for you, I think!

@Cruzerr Even in your career mode, Jose gets the better of Arsenal's manager.

@Kenny I like the signings. Both low-key but with the potential to be devastating and huge.

@Moose Yeah, the transfer academy is going to be England, Scotland, and either Australia or USA. Really annoyed they won't let you search in Wales!

@Chico We're getting closer to the end of the season. I'm seriously more excited for this than anything else!

@Rabbit That CL group is just

Sheffield Wednesday actually got taken over by a Thai consortium yesterday, and I'm going to be writing that into my storyline, but towards the end of the season. There will be a slight modification to my transfer policy, which is...

You guessed it. I've read it about six times since getting it a few years ago and I love the book. That's why I chose Mino as the agent. He also doesn't listen to anyone and says what he wants, a bit like the manager character.

Jamie, getting eliminated so early from the World cup against Denmark must've been terrible. At least they made it to the final so you can feel a bit better.

Keano, a lot of 2-2 draws there. Some of them were against big teams and that's good. Also, great job beating Chelsea!

The Wednesday: Preseason 2014

July 19, Middlewood

There's less than 10 days until we host Bradford City, and I've barely scratched the surface of how I want this team to play. It hasn't been the easiest of starts, but I think we're getting there. Training today was evidence that we're at least moving in the right direction.

"No, no, no. Joey, you're not supposed to move in. If your marker beats you, stay wide left. That's the whole point of zonal marking. You let either Claude or Tommy handle whoever is drifting in. Got that? Now try it again."

...

"Hey, boss. Can I have a word?"

"What's up, Joey?"

"About today's training exercise..."

"Listen, it'll come to you. Don't stress."

"Yeah, I reckon it should."

"And anyway, you lot were much better today than when we started. Now it's time to put it into practice."

"In preseason?"

"Yep, and you're starting at left back."

"Cheers, boss."

They're a bunch of good lads. I have some real characters, too. No need to worry about who to make captain. In fact, the headache is picking just one, but I think that Tommy Lees is the best fit. Strong, powerful, refuses to give up. He's perfect, actually.

July 29, Hillsborough Stadium

SHW 1-0 BRD
41' May

Incredible game today. We won 1-0 in my first match in charge, even though it was just a warm-up friendly. Bradford's players were a credit to their team, but my boys were good enough to come away with the win. If this had been a league game, those points would have been savoured for days and days. Stevie May did a number on those Bradford defenders. I still remember going nuts in the lead-up to his goal.

"What the hell is that? Come on, ref! They're hacking him down left and right! F*cking do something about it, you German bugger! Oh, Stevie, come on, shoot! YEEEEEEEEES! Have that, you chickens! Have that!"

Precious, aren't I?

********************

August 1, Rodney Parade

NEW 1-1 SHW
88' Zebroski
27' McCabe

We had to go down Wales for this one. Three and a half hours on the M42, all for the most boring 1-1 this club has ever had to suffer through. It was barely worth the effort, to tell the truth.

"Boss, remind me why we're doing this again?"

"Because our lovely chairman promised our fans in Wales they'd have a chance to see us play this season."

"Couldn't it have waited until Cardiff away in the league?"

"McCabe, don't expect logic from businessmen."

In the end, it was Rhys himself who scored our goal with a penalty halfway through the first period. Chris Zebroksi grabbed a late equaliser for Newport with a powerful shot. I'll need to keep my eye on that lad, maybe even have one of the scouts prepare a dossier.

"Can we go home now, boss?"

********************

August 3, Hillsborough Stadium

SHW 3-3 FCK
7' Mamaev, 31' 44' Ari
61' May, 78' McCabe, 81' Hutchinson

Sorry to sound like a terrace chant, but who the f*ck are Krasnodar? Absolutely f*cking dreadful first half from us, completely clinical display from them. My players completely ignored everything I'd taught them. It was all long ball b*llocks. I ripped into those little sh*ts at the break.

"I don't give a damn if it's a friendly. If you lot can't score at least once, don't get back on the coach. Live here in the stadium until you understand what it means to be part of a team. Now go show your fans that you can fix your bloody problems."

It worked. Like some sort of Mourinho-esque magician, I lit a fire under their backsides. Not only did my boys score three in the second half, but they pummelled those Russian show ponies into submission. Half their squad were limping around by the time we equalised. That idiot Ari left the field on a stretcher, but that was due to his own stupidity. Mad b*stard ran into the advertising barrier and broke his ankle.

"More of that next time. And without that atrocious display from the first half, if you'd please."

"Lighten up, gaffer."

"What did you say, lad?"

"Oh, b*llocks."

********************

August 7, Middlewood

"Boss, you wanted to see us?"

"Yes, come in and sit down. How was training today?"

"Good. I think we could do some more work on some set pieces, though."

"I like the enthusiasm, but perhaps another time. Right now, I need to speak with you all about something very important."

"What's up, boss?"

"You know I don't like mincing words, so I'm just going to be blunt. The five of you aren't going to play very much if you stay here this season, and that's why I've arranged for you all to go on loan."

"Do you really think that's the best move for us?"

"I do, Raf. You're all very talented players, and I want you here for the long term, but right now what you need is game time. Now, I want you to look over these loan agreements with League One and League Two sides. You'll be playing 40-50 games with these teams, so I think it's for the best."

"Okay, boss. I mean, if you think this is the best move, I'm on board."

"Good, but read the agreement first. If there's something you don't agree with or understand, we can sort it out before you leave."

Joe Wildsmith to Stevenage
Franck Betra to Exeter City
Ed Sanders to Sc*nthorpe United
Rafael Floro to Colchester United
Jack Stobbs to Northampton Town

Indi: That was really nicely written and a different twist on things. I really like what you are doing. The results were ok for preseason and I like the way you spoke to the 5 players that went out on loan instead of just listing them off. I'm looking forward to the season getting under way!

Losing on penalties is always the worst. Especially after having a last minute one saved. An extremely tough Champions League group! Bad luck. I hope your other 2 signings do well. A shame about Reyna!
looks like you're the only one who's voted on this so it looks like Monzon will get the next spotlight

TOON TO THE TOP
SEASON 3
PS4

Community Shield

Newcastle 4-1 Spurs
Lamela 33
Dzsudzsak 45 (PEN)
Bony 69
Barkley 79
Perez 86

Lamela opened the scoring for Spurs, curling in from the edge of the box but Balasz equalised from the spot after being brought down. Bony gave us the lead with a header into the top corner before Barkley curled into the bottom corner. Débutante Enzo Perez settled late on, running clear on the counter before smashing into the top corner.

Match 1

Aston Villa 1-1 Newcastle
Barkley 33
Weimann 90

Our first match of the season came against last years third place team. We took the lead when Barkley was able to stroke into the bottom corner. Despite our domination, Weimann was able to equalise with the last kick if the game from a stupid Begovic mistake, passing straight to him to curl into the corner.

Match 2

Newcastle 2-1 Manchester United
Dzsudzsak 24
Di Maria 72
Bony 90

Balasz opened the scoring in this match, cutting inside and curling into the bottom corner. The game became end to end and eventually Di Maria was able to smash a thunderbolt into the top corner. However, in the last minute Bony was able to tap in from a low cross to give us the win.

Match 3

Spurs 2-0 Newcastle
De Jong 48
Chadli 76

Our former player Siem De Jong gave Spurs the lead, chipping Begovic on the rebound just after half time. Chadli made it 2, smashing into the bottom corner after chesting down on the edge of the box. Revenge for their Community Shield drumming.

League Cup Round 2

Newcastle 3-0 Carlisle
Perez 28
Riviere 56
Medel 62

Simmed.

Transfer Completed

German left midfielder Andre Schurrle has joined Newcastle United on a £19 million + Balasz Dzsudzsak. This looks like a great deal, a young, world class, world cup winning midfielder for an older, decreasing ability, Hungarian midfielder. However, many fans are unhappy. Balasz was excellent last season and developed a type of hero status. Also, there is the small matter of Schurrle being out for 4 months with an ACL injury. The injury occurred in a League Cup match but Newcastle are thought to have panicked. Having been in formed of a bid being accepted from FC Bayern, afraid of losing their man, they spent the large majority of their budget on a player who won't become available till January. And lost their first choice winger for him. A bad move.

Transfers IN
Enzo Perez: Pre Contract Agreement from Valencia
Andre Schurrle: £19 million + Dzsudzsak from Chelsea

Transfers OUT
Haris Vuckic: Loan to Fulham
Roussillon Murnane: Loan to Stoke
Adam Armstrong: Loan to Burnley
