Agree also on the point of I don't know what the happy medium is. Seems like 23/23 (ish) has 'felt' the best in my testing.

Matt, can you refute why we shouldn't have it 'that' high (23)?
I've never tested 23 exact, I've tested 20/25/30/35/40/45 even 100/90/80/70/60

This is why GK is still an experiment. My issue with the 20's was that they were still saving hard blasting shots with ease and catching them. Despite having shot speed at 52/53/54/55.

It's a strange one this year, but as always, we'll figure it out.

I hate to stir the pot any further re: goalkeepers, but trust me when I say that they'll make egregious mistakes even at 35 (the setting I use) or even defaults. Using default GK settings recently, I watched a CPU winger perform the classic attack: first, he torched my fullback from the touchline, then he wandered to the corner flag, then he dribbled down the end line alone before rifling the ball with literally zero angle at my keeper. My keeper stood there, paralyzed with fear, and the ball squirted off his boobs and into the goal. He didn't even move. He just turned around and pulled the ball out of the back of the net. I just lol'd because it was too ridiculous to be mad.

Hi Matt,

please try this problem: walking in the pitch in diagonal and this is the result, CPU sleeping. Very big bug...

That doesnt look good! Which difficulty were you testing this at?

Sliders or not?

GK's, just trying to find the reaction of their saves - sorry should have made that clear. I know their boneheads at times, lol.

If I recall correctly, at 20/20 they were hardly catching anything, and at 25/25 they were catching everything.

Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian

Level difficulty is legend, with any slide and any player (GK, CB, LB, RB ecc ), low speed is more bug. With normal speed block this with acceleration 100, sprint speed 100, and marking 65...try this but the game is unplayabile. I'm not trolling!

This is a HUGELY important point. Legacy defending changes the offline experience dramatically. I've gone back and forth a bit lately, and with Legacy defending the balance shifts big time - much of what is overpowered with the CPU against Tactical defending is eliminated.

Whether it's the "right way to play" I'm not so sure. On one hand it definitely levels the playing field. Anyone who's played much multiplayer can tell that Tactical defending was designed specifically with multiplayer in mind - it works very well in human v human and so multiplayer is the better balanced gameplay (not the more realistic, but the better balanced).

That said, there's good reason they implemented Tactical over Legacy defending - the homing missile defensive system that's Legacy is unrealistic, simplistic, and easy. All I have to do is manipulate who I control to keep the play in front of me and hold down the teammate tackle and more times than not I get a tackle. There's no skill in tackling anymore. Players in real life don't make a beeline for dribblers and successfully claim the ball as easily as you can with Legacy defending.

The default defensive system needs to be something in-between the two systems. But regardless of which system is preferred, it really should be emphasized that your experience will vary dramatically depending upon which you choose. Sliders that make the game the right level of challenge for me on Tactical defending are too easy for me with Legacy.
