Second half they played more long ball. I had set all defenders to aggressive interceptions so many of the long ground passes were intercepted. Only 3 fouls called against Huddersfield, one yellow. One 'foul' by me was left to advantage. Three walk-off injuries. Tied at 1 going into the final ten minutes came one of those goals where the ball just seemed to bounce fortunately to the goal scorer; fortunately this time it came to me. A shot by Zaha was blocked right into the path of Joel Ward. Some may consider the keeper's reaction unfortunate but I've lived those times where you expect a shot in one place then have to shift direction just to have the ball put back where you were. If don't hit it right at you it is in; this one went just under the arm of the keeper. Hennessy made 15 saves despite 19 shots and only 9 on target (?). Midfield seemed to get a little too far up field for me at times. Only one game with the set though so take with grain...

One thing I do want to folks to look for: I noticed at least three times during the run of play CB Scott Dann racing forward up field over lapping the CDM getting into the box. His instructions were "always stay back when attacking" so I'm not sure why he was getting so far forward. I'll let you know if I see it in future games but wonder if others are seeing the same? Run frequency and FB were set to the 4.2 values.
I definitely see that , CB out of nowhere will just burst up the field for no apparent reason and also I've caught my st,cf dropping so far back where they end up being the CB. Seen alot of craziness with this game

Re: FIFA 18 OS Community Sliders

First off, I want to say you are doing the lord's work as I have played nothing but Manager Mode for years and years, and have spent countless hours altering settings on my own, but only recently started lurking and trying out your slider sets. If only I knew about this website back when I figured out how to make a double AND triple pivot work... but I digress.

Some feedback - I can't quite determine the root cause, but I've come across a nagging issue in my own defensive third (perhaps I could draw out a chart, or try to capture footage?). To put it simply, the central midfielders (under AI control) often defend/stay with marks far too deep... even when there is an extra man at the back that in position to 'switch' or mark the runner. I think it may have to do with the Line Width setting, as you pointed out:

"this should help the defensive shape throughout the pitch, and not just at the top of the box or defensive third."

So, while this mostly happens under the AI's control, it seems odd for a central midfielder to track the runner of a forward who does not have the ball.

BOTH sets are solid- as I posted earlier today, there is better balance in the build up between the flanks on the outside and the center midfielders in the inside, variety/randomness in first touches with FT at 65, and an overall stat line that better resembles real world football.

But, with V3.0, it is the BUILD UP where, for some reason (which I will defer to the experts), I experience a slower build up and less frenetic forward-forward-forward straight up the pitch play by the CPU.

Most notably, the poorer the team, the SLOWER (and more cautious) the buildup. The better the team, the more one-touch counter attacking football I saw.

I played 3, 15 minute halves with both V3.0 and V4.2 using both club and country, same teams for each trial run:
- Fulham (just for you Matt) v. Bochum, second tier English/German leagues, each team ranked in the low 70's.

- Fiorentina v. OL, first tier Italian/French, both teams ranked mid/high 70's.

- Deutschland v. Brazil, international friendly, both teams mid/high 80's.

^^^ I saw a significant difference in the speed of the buildup in the Fulham/Bochum game, where passes went awry, players were more cautious, and chances not converted, versus the Deutschland v. Brazil, which effectively looked a repeat of the 2014 WC semi-finals in Belo Horizonte, where one touch football, individual moves, and precision shooting stood out like a sore thumb (no, the halftime score was not GER 5 - BRA 0 ha ha). The point is that I experienced a lot more variety in the speed of the buildup using V3.0 than I did V4.2.

I think the lower PASS SPEED at 30 for the CPU was the real reason for this. Even when the CPU's pass was drilled, it was at least drilled at a lower speed and allowed by players to occasionally "cut out" the pass and launch a well-controlled counter. The CPU's Center Forward/Striker also held the ball up more and made more horizontal passes out to the flanks to either the LM/RM/LB/RB or vertically back to a midfielder who starts the CPU's build up- instead of just driving straight at by center backs.

Maybe there is a way to incorporate the lower pass speed into the V4.2 slider set without throwing the rest of the V4.2 settings out of whack? I am conscious of the fact that these settings are all relative, and a dramatic (5+ points or more) change in one setting likely has significant effect on the other settings... But I'll tell you- as positive as my first impressions have been with the V4.2 slider set, something keeps drawing me back more to the V3.0 slider set, and I am willing to bet that the pass speed is the reason.

Prost! (Cheers!)
I seem to see A lot of the same in version 3 I was getting A lot more realist scores in version 4.2 I saw A lot more goals

It was one of those epic scripted fifa game (ended winning on penalties).
I saw the match and indeed it exhibited the worst qualities of Fifa. First the pinpoint passing by the CPU, which was completely unrealistic for Sheffield Wed. Liverpool should have dominated from the get go. Instead shots after first half were something like 5-14 in their favor.

In important matches like this cup match, the game fails miserably in modeling team differences. Sheffield should have had a few attempts, some perhaps from corners or free kicks. Instead, like you wrote on Twitch, they were Barcaing your team.

During the second half you clearly took control of the match. Unfortunately the end let us down again, because after Sheffield goalie had made a series of amazing saves (read unrealistic) to deny you from scoring, your two equalizers came from deflections off defenders. So instead of blocking the shots - which they usually do extraordinarily well - they deflected them into the goal. We haven’t talked much about scripting here, but this match had that awful word written all over in capital letters.

I really enjoyed watching how you started to break them down during the second half. Was this legendary or world class?

Using the latest version with the latest patch. Cpu is not aggressive in creating chances, keeps on passing the ball, easily gets rid of possession of the ball..

Re: FIFA 18 OS Community Sliders

Does Patch Nr.3 cause problems with pre-existing CMs like patch Nr.1 did?
After (gameplay-)patch Nr.1 my pre-patch CM played different than a casual "Kick-Off" match. In Kick-Off mode everything seemed to work great with the sliders but in the CM everything felt way faster and like sliders wouldn't have any effect anymore. I think many people had this issue.

I really don't want to start a new CM again!

Same experience here with latest sliders after yesterdays patch. Playing on WC difficulty. Owned Galatasaray in a CL match with my humble Club Brugge team. Felt way too easy due to the passive attitude of the CPU

Re: FIFA 18 OS Community Sliders

Since launch day I've been persevering with my own slider set from FIFA 17. At first I thought it was fine but I started seeing problems so I had a go with the 4.2 sliders last night

3 games -

Palace 2 (CPU) V West Ham 2 (Me)
A. Madrid 2 (Me) v Villareal 1 (CPU)
Roma 3 (Me) v Bologna 2 (CPU)

Overall really enjoyed these games. Pace did feel a little sluggish at first (due to playing on normal speed) but by end of game 3 all was well. I still see an issue where the CPU defenders track runners allowing me to run through on goal almost unhindered. Not often but happened a couple of times over 3 games on WC, 10 minute halves. Anyone else experiencing this?

I think the futures looking bright(er) for FIFA 18. I was considering going back to 17 !!!!
