Anyone catch the documentary? I thought it was great.

Funny you could see the actor who plays Varys looked like how he died during the table reading. Did like Kit's reaction to the Dany death scene.

Also big WTF knowing the Night King actor is a veteren stunt man who assist on fight choregraphy and was also the knight that fought young Ned Stark who double weilded swords didn't get a chance to show off his sword skills with The Night King

With no explanation.

Which is par for the course for S8.

Was it just magic?

Re: Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Final season)

We got confirmation that Arya "jumped off a pile of dead wights" to kill the Night King. Okay...

Hilarious seeing the actor who played the Night King, "How can that girl kill the Night King?"

Loved seeing the reactions from the table read; if only we could have seen that in its entirety. It was more gripping and emotionally moving than any part of S8. Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington's reactions as he read the final scene between the two was great to see. Conleth Hill's reaction was gold. It seems like only the youngest of actors (the Stark children, mainly) didn't have a negative reaction at the table. I wonder if there's a single cast member who approved of S8. Even some of the directors and behind the scenes folks weren't impressed.

Re: Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Final season)

I spent some time over the weekend watching YouTube clips of the show (character highlights reels and season recaps) and noticed how Westorosi vernacular all but disappeared from the last two season's dialogue. Stuff like "Seven Hells", swearing "by the old gods and the new" and stuff like that. All of those sayings that added a phenomenal sense of immersion seemed to be forgotten about. I don't recall much, if any, of it being in the last two seasons. A "valar morghulis" here and there. I think that's part of why the dialogue felt so generic and bland.

Charles Dance, Jack Gleeson, and Michelle Fairley added so much to the earlier seasons, plus with Varys and Littlefinger being in their prime. Tyrion too.

The same issue with the books, after A Storm of Swords, was felt in the show. When you kill off so many awesome characters you are playing a dangerous game--pun intended--of leaving a chasm that can't be filled with new characters; it's doubly difficult in television since you have to replace great actors in addition to the great characters they play. While S7 and especially S8 were underwhelming, S5 and S6 were already noticeably worse than S1-4. I'm looking forward to a rewatch over the summer to see how things compare without a year or more break in between seasons.
