Re: Big D: A Dallas Cowboys Dynasty (Madden 10)

Week 17- "Mr. Reliable" Miles Austin not so reliable as a dropped 2-point conversion attempt ends the Cowboys regular season on a three-game skid

PHI
9 3 9 3 18
DAL 3 7 0 6 16

AP – The Cowboys have a lot of work to do before their first playoff game, there is no doubt about that. The Cowboys looked atrocious on offense in today's defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. The game was controlled in most part by the Eagles, but both offenses struggled mightily. Romo follows up last week's abysmal performance with one just as bad. The Cowboys end the season on a three game skid heading into the playoffs. Definitely not what the Cowboys were looking for, as far as momentum is concerned.

Allen Rossum returned the opening kickoff into Dallas territory, but the offense was not able to do anything. They settled for a Nick Folk field goal and a 3-0 lead early. Philly would answer with a David Akers field goal to tie it up at 3 at the end of one.

Dallas would put up the first touchdown of the game when Romo hit Barber for a 5 yard touchdown pass, making it 10-3. Philly would once again add another Akers field goal to put the score at 10-6 Cowboys at the half.

Dallas would be shut out in the third quarter but the Eagles were able to muster up an Akers field goal, along with an 8 yard touchdown run from Westbrook. Philly went for 2, but failed. The score to end the third, 15-10 Eagles.

Mid way through the fourth, the Eagles would add another field goal to increase their lead to 8, 18-10. Just like the rest of the game, it was a back-and-forth affair as neither offense could do anything. But, Dallas would be able to force a fumble on a punt return which set up great field position with under 4 minutes remaining. Romo would take advantage and hit Roy Williams on a goal line touchdown pass to make it 18-16 Eagles. Dallas would attempt a two point conversion. Then the unthinkable happened. Miles Austin, the go-to guy all season, dropped a pass from Romo that would have tied the game. The pass hit Austin in the numbers but for some reason, he was unable to hold on. The boo's radiated throughout the stadium, as the fans knew that would cost them the game. Philly would take a few kneel downs and ice the game, winning 18-16.

The Cowboys did clinch the division title with the Redskins loss. They also finish third in the conference and will not receive a first round bye. Dallas will open up the Wild Card weekend against the Washington Redskins in Dallas.

Re: Big D: A Dallas Cowboys Dynasty (Madden 10)

WILD CARD WEEKEND - Romo comes up huge as late rushing touchdown secures first playoff win since 1996

WAS 7 7 7 14 35
DAL 7 10
0 21 38

AP – So much for all the talk of Tony Romo not being able to win a big game. Romo let his legs do the talking as a last second rushing touchdown propels Dallas to their first playoff victory since 1996. The Cowboys controlled most of the game but as the fourth quarter played out, the Redskins made this an extremely exciting finish.

The Cowboys would win the opening coin toss and Allen Rossum would return the opening kick to inside the Dallas 5 yard line. This would set up Marion Barber's first of three rushing touchdowns on the day. Dallas would take an early 7-0 lead. Mid-way through the first quarter, Washington would get on the board when Landry would pick off Tony Romo and return it to the house to tie the game at 7.

The second quarter would begin with Barber adding another rushing touchdown from 6 yards out to give Dallas a 14-7 advantage. Just like what happened in the first, Landry would pick off Romo for the second time and return this one for a game tying touchdown. Dallas would tack on a Nick Folk field goal as the first half expired. Dallas would head to the half with a 17-14 lead.

The third quarter was mostly uneventful as both defenses stepped up their games. The only score would be a huge 66 yard touchdown run by Clinton Portis to give Washington a 21-17 lead. The Dallas fans were growing more and more nervous by the second, as everyone was hoping this would finally be the year Dallas would get over the hump and win their first playoff game in 14 years.

The fans would feel some since of relief as Barber would add his third rushing touchdown of the day to give the Cowboys a 24-21 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Both defenses would hold throughout the next 6 minutes, until Jason Campbell would provide Washington with a go ahead rushing touchdown from 4 yards out. Washington was on top 28-24. Needing to step up big time, Romo would answer by finding Miles Austin, who had 184 yards on the day, for a 70 yard touchdown. The stadium would go crazy as Dallas would take the lead, 31-28 with just under three minutes left. But, the Redskins would have an answer as Campbell would find Yoder for a 30 yard touchdown pass to once again give Washington the lead. Dallas was now trailing 35-31 with under one minute remaining. The entire stadium was in shock as they felt victory slipping away.

But, Tony Romo, the quarterback who is scrutinized continuously for his knack of not winning the big games when they matter, would find it in himself to silence the critics. Romo, with under a minute remaining, would guide the Cowboys offense down the field and inside the 5 yard line with just seconds on the clock. On third down, Dallas would call a playaction pass. Romo had no open receivers as he drifted out of the pocket to his right. Romo saw his only chance to win the game as he took off from three yards out, finding the end zone untouched. Cowboys Stadium would erupt with jubilation as finally, the Cowboys would win a playoff game.

Dallas will now travel to New Orleans to face off with the Saints in the Divisional Round. The Saints beat the Cowboys back in week 15, but Dallas is hoping this huge victory will provide them momentum to win just not next week against the Saints, but win the Super Bowl.
