Re: A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

AT
Week Nine
49 - 24

Charlotte, NC - When Saints (6-3) coach Sean Payton walked into Bank of America stadium Sunday, he felt his team had a good chance of getting revenge for the week four home loss to Carolina. He didn't imagine this.

The Panthers (4-4) were stomped 49-24 in a game where Drew Brees and the Saints offense were unstoppable. New Orleans 320 yards of offense in the first half, and Panthers quarterback Matt Moore's two interceptions put the game out reach in the first half.

Up 14-10 at the two minute warning, the Saints, behind Drew Brees score three touchdowns before the half in a crazy sequence that went:

NO possession - Brees to Roby Touchdown (1:46 left)
CAR possession - M. Moore intercepted by D. Sharper. Sharper brings it back to CAR 17 (0:52 left)
NO possession - One play, Brees to Henderson Touchdown (0:49 left)
CAR possession - Three and Out - Saints return punt to CAR 39 (0:27 left)
NO possession - Three play drive that ends with Brees to Moore Touchdown(0:05 left)

That made the game 35-10 at the half, it was pretty much over at that point. The Saints added two long touchdown runs by Reggie Bush in the 4th quarter of 93 and 55 yards, sealing the deal for New Orleans. The Panthers were overmatched the whole game.

Re: A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

Panthers look to rebound from last weeks blowout
Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer
Tampa, FL - Carolina (4-4) heads to Tampa to take on the Buccaneers (1-7) in Raymond James Stadium.

The Panthers are coming off a 49-24 drubbing at the hand of the Saints last week, and will look to get back on track against a Tampa Bay team that has lost 6 straight since the last time these two teams played.

In the previous meeting the Bucs pulled off a 20-13 win in Charlotte, something that they will look to repeat. Panthers coach John Fox said "We need to start the second half off strong, hopefully gain some confidence heading into the last eight games, I think this team is playoff caliber, they just have to prove me right the rest of the way"

The Panthers will be without two wide receivers this week, with Brandon Lafell and Kenny Moore nursing injuries. Tampa Bay is without two starting offensive lineman, as well starting outside linebacker Geno Hayes.

Injury Report

Panthers -
WR Brandon Lafell - Out 1 week - Broken Ribs
WR Kenneth Moore - Out 1 week - Dislocated Elbow

Buccaneers -
OLB Geno Hayes - Out 1 week - Torn Tricep
LT Donald Penn - Out 3 weeks - Fractured Toe
RG Davin Joseph - Out for season - Broken Tailbone

Week Ten
33 - 27

Tampa, FL - Panthers (5-4) coach John Fox challenged his defense to step it up after a week nine blow out by the Saints, where his defense surrendered 550 yards of offense.

The Buccaneers (5-4) fell to the Panthers 33-27, but still managed over 400 yards on offense. Coach Fox was happy with his defenses six sacks, three from DE Charles Johnson, and corner Chris Gamble's 71 yard interception return for a touchdown, but they still

Fox said "Chris' int was huge and Charles' has been unbelievable with two triple sack performances in 3 weeks, but we allowed too many big plays again and were lucky to escape with a W. I need to see some more tenacity from that squad, or there may have to be some changed made"

Carolina allowed over 300 yards through the air again and have had a hard time stopping anybody as of late. Meanwhile, on offense they managed to get their best game of the year from QB Matt Moore , he played mistake free football while completing 66% of his passes and hit Steve Smith on a 17 yard bullet where he showed some precision accuracy fitting it between LB Barrett Ruud and FS Tenard Jackson for a touchdown.

Panthers host banged up Ravens in battle of 5-4 teams
Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer

Charlotte, N.C - The Ravens (5-4) who are tied for first place in the AFC North, come into Bank of America stadium looking like an episode of M.A.S.H. They have five players listed as out for this week, including MLB Ray Lewis and CB Dominique Foxworth, who are on IR.

If you take into account Baltimore's injuries coupled with RB Ray Rice's struggles, it's a bit surprising they have managed to hover around .500 all year. Rice, in his 3rd year out of Rutgers, is having a tough time finding holes, averaging 3.8 per carry for the year, with only one TD. Even his receptions haven't been there with only 6 catches with a touchdown so far.

Carolina (5-4) on the other hand is fully healthy heading into the final seven games, but with the defense struggling to stop offenses from moving at will lately, holding onto the second NFC wild card spot may be tough.

The Panthers are tied with the 49ers, Cowboys, Cardinals, Packers and Bears at 5-4, with all six teams fighting it out for the two wild card berths. Coach John Fox was adamant about his defense needing to improve to have a shot "We won't be able to do much if our offense is forced to put up 30 points a week, thats not the makeup of our team. We need to play grind it out football to be succesful, that means our defense needs to keep the offense off the field and off the scoreboard. That hasn't happened much lately"

Ravens coach John Harbaugh knows that for his team to keep pace with the Bengals (5-4), his reserves will need to play big "Injuries are a part of the game. Every team deals with them and we're no different, we just need some of these younger guys to make a name for themselves and show that they belong here."

AT
Week Eleven
27 - 33
OT

Charlotte, N.C - The Ravens (5-5) were finally able to get RB Ray Rice going this week, but it wasn't enough to overcome two defensive touchdowns by the Panthers (6-4). One of them the deciding overtime score on a Rice fumble, returned by SS Charles Godfrey to give Carolina a victory by ironically the same score as their week ten win, 33-27.

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams broke a 84 yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and finished with 160 yards on 20 attempts. While for the Ravens, Rice rushed for 168 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown, only his second 100 yard game of the year.

Carolina's defense was much improved up until the final minute when a blown coverage allowed Ravens WR Anquan Boldin to break away downfield for a 62 yard pass play, leading to his 5 yard touchdown to send the game into overtime.

Chris Gamble added an interception return for a touchdown for the defense, the second game in a row he has done so. The defense did get some tough news when they found out that OLB James Anderson will miss the next two games after dislocating his elbow on a missed tackle of Ray Rice.

Re: A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

Panthers head to Cleveland to take on old friend

Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer
Cleveland, OH - When Jake Delhomme arrives at the stadium Sunday morning, he plans on spending some extra time out on the field during warmups making the rounds. Delhomme said "it's gonna take a while for me to say hey to all those guys, and I'll admit a little emotional. I went to battle with alot of those guys over there for seven years, I'm close friends with alot of them, it's gonna be great to see them all, until kickoff of course" he said laughing.

Delhomme will now lead his new Browns (5-5) team into battle against his old squad when the Panthers (6-4) try to keep pace in the NFC playoff picture.

Delhomme has his team a game out of first place, and boasts a 12 to 6 TD/INT ratio on 315 pass attempts, a vast improvement over his 8 to 18 ratio after 321 attempts for Carolina last year.

The Panthers enter the game last in total yards allowed and will be without OLB James Anderson for the game, leaving rookie Eric Norwood, who has played well this season as a fill in to start. Defensive End Charles Johnson, who has eight sacks in nine games, six of which came in his last 3 games will look to continue his hot play against a guy he has tremendous respect for "Jake may be the toughest guy I know on the football field, but off the field he's as good as it gets, a true class act" Johnson said.

Carolina stands a game out of first, behind the 7-3 Falcons, and tied with the Saints at 6-4. They currently hold the first wild card spot.

Re: A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

AT
Week Twelve
34 - 18

Cleveland, OH - Jake Delhomme did his part, his defense did not. The ex-Panther threw for 274 yards on 16 of 29 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 34-18 loss to his old squad.

Delhomme's replacement, Matt Moore threw a career-high four touchdown passes to go along with his 213 yards passing on 13 of 17, for a 76% completion percentage. Moore said of the game he and his mentor had that "Jake was instrumental in my growth here. He would always offer up some tips and was always willing to help me out with mechanical or mental issues I was having. He was a great teammate, so it was nice to show him that his mentoring has paid off, and it was nice to see him play well, he deserves all the success in the world"

But Delhomme's day wasn't enough for his Cleveland (5-6) team to get passed the Panthers (7-4) who are now tied with the Falcons for first place in the NFC South. The Browns defense just couldn't stop the Panthers run game all day, with the Williams/Stewart duo rushing for 183 yards on a combined 32 carries, add Moore's career day and Cleveland had its hands full.

It wasn't all good news though. The Panthers lost their defenses leader when Jon Beason went down with a broken collarbone and will miss the rest of the regular season, as well as probably the entire playoffs. It's a huge blow to a defense already struggling to keep offenses off the scoreboard.

Carolina was able to get another three sack game from a guy who is quickly making them forget about Julius Peppers, Charles Johnson. He has been stout in the run game and a menace for opposing quarterbacks and now has 11 sacks on the season.
