Re: M2H's Alternate Reality Seattle Seahawks

After reading about the Rams loss, I was going to comment that we needed to get the run game going, and it looks like you did. I assume with Brown and Lynch sharing duties and Washington still in the mix, Forsett is done in Seattle?

Also love the layout and pics. Makes for a nice presentation and read.

Good luck getting things turned around.

This is really good. Love the pics of the Cheerleaders after all of the matchups.

great layout and presentation.

Love the idea of the alternate reality. Definitely better than doing a fantasy draft.

Thank you for the post.

With my fatigue and sub settings I like to carry 4 RB's and Forsett is 3rd string and the 3rd down back, so he's not done here unless he wants to be when his contract comes up.

Thank you for the post.

A while back a put a picture of some UCLA cheerleaders in a NCAA dynasty game preview and I inadvertently created a Frankenstein. My readers now demand a pic with every weekly preview.

It would have been fun to fool around with some more alternate draft picks (swapping Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers was a brilliant suggestion that came too late) but I didn't want to get bogged down doing a massive roster edit.

The Jake and A.J. Show:
Rookies Hook Up For 3 TD's As Hawks Down Da Bears, 34-28

There have been times when it seemed both improbable and plausible that a Seattle Seahawks quarterback would have a 300-yard, 3-touchdown game in 2011. Improbable when the Seahawks opened camp with virtually untested Charlie Whitehurst and enigmatic rookie Jake Locker, plausible when Seattle traded for Carson Palmer. But as the league’s most surprising story continued to unfold, it was Locker, making just his second career start, who had such a day while a healthy Palmer did not even take a snap. All three of Locker’s TD passes were caught by fellow rookie A.J. Green, two of them in a 21-point second quarter that helped propel the Hawks to a 34-28 victory over the visiting Chicago Bears. But despite the gaudy day that Seattle’s first two picks in last April’s draft had, there was an elephant in the room: Jay Cutler threw for 413 yards and three touchdowns, and a Seattle lead which had once been 21 points shrank to 6 by game’s end. Sam Bradford must be looking at those numbers and wishing he at least had Chicago’s receivers, and that’s a sad thought.

There was no scoring in the first quarter, but on the first play of the second, Ronnie Brown punched in from the 1. During the next Chicago series, the Seahawks lost their best pass rusher, Chris Clemons, to a torn quad. Locker’s first scoring connection with Green covered a modest 10 yards and came with 8:48 remaining in the half. At 6:16, on the first play after a Chicago punt, the pair was more spectacular on a 72 yard score. On the fifth play after the kickoff, Greg Olsen got into the open field after a catch and went 55 yards before he was knocked out of bounds at the Seattle 2 by Marcus Trufant. Willie Parker scored on the next play to get the Bears on the board.

In Chicago’s first second half series, Johnny Knox went full extension to haul in a Cutler bomb for a gain of 61 yards to the Seattle 12. Three plays after that, Devin Hester caught a 4 yard TD pass from Cutler. An exchange of punts ensued, after which Locker and Green burned Charles Tillman for a 78 yard score, with Green going all but 13 of those yards following the reception. Olindo Mare missed a 51 yard field goal attempt at the 1:50 mark of the third quarter, and the Hawks still led 28-14 going into the final frame. Mare’s next try, from 41 yards out, was good with 8:18 left in the game. Eight minutes did not seem like much time for the Bears to catch up, until Cutler and Olsen, on the first snap after the kickoff, teamed up for an 80 yard touchdown thanks to Jordan Babineaux falling down before he could wrap up Olsen. Mare stretched Seattle’s lead to 13 points with a 43-yarder with 4:05 to go, but the Bears weren’t ready to quit, responding with an 11 yard pass from Cutler to Chester Taylor. There was 2:15 left on the clock when Chicago cut Seattle’s lead to 34-28, and the Bears kicked away, hoping for a quick stop with the two minute warning acting as a bonus time out. Three Browns runs got the chains moved twice and the Seahawks used up all of the Bears’ time outs, but could not run out the clock, punting for a touchback from the Chicago 38 with 53 ticks remaining. A 4 yard completion to Taylor and a spike made it 3rd and 6 at the 24. Pressure from a blitzing Lofa Tatupu forced a bad Cutler pass to make it 4th down. With a drop by Earl Bennett, the Bears turned the ball over in four plays.

“I faced a better secondary against Florida last year than I did against those guys today,” Green said in a postgame interview.

Where do the day’s events leave Palmer with his former team coming to Qwest Field next week? “We’ll talk about that on Tuesday,” Pete Carroll said.

L: A.J. Green makes a one-handed grab for the first of his three TD catches. R: A.J. works the crowd after his second score.

Re: M2H's Alternate Reality Seattle Seahawks

Palmer To Start vs. Bengals

Is Pete Carroll putting sentimentality ahead of the best interests of his team?

Carroll opened his regularly-scheduled Tuesday press conference with the announcement that he was going to give Carson Palmer the start when the Seahawks host Palmer's former team. Palmer going up against the team that he ditched would make a good story if he could be expected to play well, but the fact is that Palmer has done more harm than good while he's been under center and Jake Locker is coming off a 300-yard, 3-touchdown day. Talk about a buzzkill for the rookie.

"I just have to give Carson this opportunity," Carroll said, then repeated "I just have to. Frankly, we didn't trade for Carson to sit him behind a rookie. We have to find out if we got any value out of that trade. Carson's been with us long enough now that his late arrival to camp is no longer an excuse. We know he'll give us everything that he's got, whatever that is, in this one. If he doesn't perform as we hope he does, Jake will play. And to those still giddy over Jake's numbers on Sunday, I'd like to point out that he did only complete 52% of his passes."

After Tuesday's practice, A.J. Green said, "I don't care who's slingin' the ball as long as they get it to me."

If Palmer gets the hook for a third time, let's hope it's in time for Locker to repair the damage.
