Game Notes
Idaho is looking to get back on track, after their disappointing loss to Louisiana Tech, but it is going to be a lot harder with their top two running backs out and the passing games struggles last week. San Jose State is on the heels of conference leader Utah State and this is a very important game for them in their quest for a conference title. Idaho's offense has been moving very well in the last couple weeks and there is no reason to think that should stop this week.

M. Posey(#85) is found wide open in the end zone by D. Blackmon for 7-0 lead on the Vandals opening drive. D. Blackmon may have only thrown for one touchdown, but his play was a big part of the reason Idaho was able to squeaky out this win.

D. Eskridge(#2) finds a wide open running lane for a five yard touchdown, a missed kick later and the Spartans where trailing 6-7.

At the beginning of the second quarter, D. Fales hits P. Tuitupou(#15) in the flat and is able to get in the end zone from 11 yards out. 13-7 Spartans lead.

D. Bass(#3) steps in front of a D. Fales pass and races down the sideline for a 58 yard touchdown, giving Idaho the lead 14-13 with 3:24 left in the second quarter.

D. Fales places this pass perfectly for R. Otten(#82) to just barely get a foot in bounds. An extra point latter and the Spartans were leading 14-20 with under two minutes left in the first half.

At the beginning of the third quarter A. Jelks(#30) breaks off a 73 yard touchdown run, further increasing San Jose State's lead 14-27. This was a big day for the Spartans running game, 200+ combined yards and two touchdowns, against the number one ranked run defense.

At the beginning of the fourthD. Cunningham(#41) pounds the ball in from one yard out, closing the gap on the Spartans 27-24. The Idaho Vandals running game also had a good day on the ground, 151 yards and two touchdowns, with some key runs late in this ball game.

With the clock running under one minute left and Idaho down 30-24 in the red zone, D. Cummingham(#41) once again finds the end zone in a short yard situation, but this time it was for the lead. An extra point good and it looks like the Vandals were going to get away with a 30-31 win.

On the next San Jose State possession D. Fales gets his team to the edge of field goal range, but needs a couple more yards. D. Bass(#3) once again comes up big for Idaho, intercepted the pass and taking it for his second touchdown. With that touchdown Idaho could coast to the 30-38 win.

Game Notes
BYU goes to Moscow to play the Vandals, as heavy favorites. Idaho has been playing well as of late, but their defense is suspect if they don't generate turnovers and if the offense doesn't get the run game going Idaho will have no hope. Things aren't going to be a breeze for BYU either, as starting QB Riley Nelson has a torn bicep. Even with their QB out for this game BYU will still move the ball too effectively for Idaho to establish anything on offense.

The only touchdown of this defensive struggle came on this 20 yard touchdown pass caught by M. LaGrone(#80). The defense stepped up with BYU's starting quarterback out, but the offense just couldn't get going against the stellar Cougar's defense.

Why are those two box scores so different, the San Jose State game box is huge and the BYU one is small.
