Leshoure, Running Game Key to OT Win

The Lions picked up a win on the road by defeating the Eagles 34-31 in overtime on a field goal by Jason Hanson. Mikel Leshoure continues improving with his first 100-yard game, finishing with 129 yards and a touchdown. He has scored in every game since his Week 3 debut. The play of the game belonged to Jason Avant, who caught a pass over the middle in the second quarter, then broke a tackle, spun around, and evaded a few defenders before finding open field on his way to a score.

It was a tight game throughout. After scoring twice in a thirty second span to get out in front 21-10 late in the first half, the Eagles were outscored 18-0 and found themselves trailing 28-21 early in the fourth quarter. With less than a minute remaining, Vick had the Lions defense with their backs against the wall. He completed a slant pass to DeSean Jackson for a touchdown that gave the Eagles a 31-28 lead. Now with less than thirty seconds, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson put together a drive. Stafford went to Calvin on a slant across the middle for a big gain. After a hitch to Johnson on the outside and a facemask penalty by Nmandi Asomugha on the play (no replay available), there was just enough time for Jason Hanson to send the game to overtime with a field goal.

Detroit won the toss before both teams stalled on their opening drives. With a second chance, everyone hopped on Leshoure's back as he converted first down after first down on his way into Eagles territory. Jason Hanson then trotted out for the game-winning field goal to finish off the Eagles and put the Lions back over .500.

Detroit converted twenty-seven first downs on the day. Twenty-seven.

Great win over the Eagles, Leshoure really came up big. By the way I love your NFL newswire layout/presentation very clean looking. Very nice job with this.

Hey thanks cheese. I'm trying to keep it short, while still being informative. Glad you like it.

In the game, I told myself I was going to stick with Leshoure and keep running. I gotta get my ground game going more. I'll need it against the Bears.
