NFL Sunday Countdown: Week 1

Berman: All right, now the Patriots v. the Bills. Tom, you start.
TJ: Julian Edelman was a key factor to winning this game. I don't care if you have Tom Brady and the Gronk. You have to be able to throw the ball to more than one target. And we've heard about the wide-out chemistry in New England. I'm calling Bills win 27-14.
Key: You know, in ancient days, people used to look at birds for omens as a way to estimate what would. A prediction in other words. Well I'm looking at Jairus Byrd! (Guys laugh) He's got TB's number out there. Bills win 28-17.
Cris Carter: Nope nope nope! Look at your birds all you want, I'm looking at two game changers: Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen. If they get going, along side Tom Brady, the Pats pull this out 21-17.
Ditka: The Patriots still have a pretty high powered offense. Yeah, they're missing Edelman, yeah they're missing Aaron Dobson, their best rookie receiver, but c'mon! It's TOM BRADY. He finds ways to win and he will here in week one. Not to mention the Patriot secondary and LB corps. Pretty dangerous if you ask me. Pats 24-10.

Berman:Sounds good to me guys... uh, when it comes down to it, the Pats aren't in their tip top shape. I do think the have a great D that is heavily underrated, but C.J. Spiller is near-unstoppable on a good day. I'm giving it to the Bills, 24-21.

Game Notes:
-Massaquoi had a BREAKOUT game. Could this bust be diamond that just needed the right QB?
-Stevan Ridley suffered a horrible arm fracture and looks to miss the rest of the season.

Running Backs

Ridley Out: Insert Bolden, Vereen, and Blount

Left to right: Brandon Bolden, LeGarrette Blount, Shane Vereen

The Patriots suffered another huge blow to their offense. After losing Julian Edelman and Aaron Dobson, their #1 and #3 receivers respectively, they add the loss of starting running back Stevan Ridley. Ridley broke his forearm in the early plays of the first quarter in the week one game against the Bills. Ridley tweeted yesterday acknowledging that second-string back Shane Vereen will take the reigns as the starter for the rest of the season. The team released a statement two hours ago that Ridley had been placed on the IR, eliminating any hope of him returning this season. The New England Patriots will look to Vereen, Short-Distance-Back LeGarrette Blount, and fourth-stringer Brandon Bolden. Ivan Fears, running back coach stated, "Everyone back on this roster is great, and now they have their chance to show it."

The Patriots will play their second game of the season against the New York Jets, after their 31-28 win over the Bills.

After a career game and winning Player of the Week for the AFC, the Patriots have announced that Mohamed Massaquoi will be the #2 receiver behind Danny Amendola until Julian Edelman returns from his injury. Kenbrell Thompkins, the former #2 receiver will now play in the slot. Coach Belichick on Massaquoi:
"He picked the offense up in no time. He and Tom connected almost immediately, something that all of the coordinators were surprised to see. We love him, and until Julian [Edelman] is back, I think he and Danny [Amendola] are our guys.
