Week 9 vs Steelers

Brady-less Patriots Escape with Win

Ryan Mallett subbing in for an injured Tom Brady

Tom Brady being escorted off field.

The New England Patriots picked up another tough win in the heavy Massachusetts rain. What's more? They did with Ryan Mallett at quarterback.
The game would start out horrific for the Patriots as Tom Brady would let the ball slip from his hands and it would be picked off Cortez Allen. That would lead to Ben "Big Ben" Roethlisberger throwing an four-yard touchdown pass to Heath Miller. The following Patriots drive, Tom Brady would be sandwiched by two Steeler defensive linemen. Brady was then guided off the field by team doctors and diagnosed with a broken index finger on his throwing arm. Insert Ryan Mallett. The Patriots would drive down the field, giving Leon Washington a one-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7. Shaun Suisham would break the tie later in the second quarter with a 28 yard field goal. Ryan Mallett would throw his first NFL touchdown the following drive to Mohammed Massaquoi, giving the Patriots a 14-10 lead.
To start off the third quarter, Roethlisberger found Miller again for a huge 71 yard touchdown, breaking tackles by Adrian Wilson and Devin McCourty as he split the safeties down the middle, putting the Steelers up 17-14. Leon Washington would strike back with a two-yard touchdown: Pats up 21-17. Pittsburgh would stall out, but Ryan Mallett would throw his first interception. This was followed up by a Shaun Suisham field goal: Pats 21, Steelers 20. Ryan Mallett would be picked off again, resulting boos raining down from the crowd. Suisham would tack on another field goal, putting Pittsburgh up 23-21. But throughout all doubt, with under two minutes remaining in the fourth, Ryan Mallett drove the Patriots down to the three yard line. Mallett would hand the ball off the fullback James Develin and would give New England the lead back. Bill Belichick decided it would be better to be safe than sorry and decided to go for two. It succeeded with a Leon Washington two-point conversion. Big Ben wouldn't be able to do anything as the time ran on, giving the New England the win, 29-23.

Re: Bobby's Boys|New England Patriots|ESPN NFL 2K5

Hey guys, I hope everyone who is reading has enjoyed thus far. As you know, T. Brady is hurt. Fortunately, we had a bye-week after that game and he healed up a bit and is listed as probable for the next game. And along with that, his overall is just barely over Ryan Mallett (Mallett is a 79, Brady would be like a 79-80). So, should I roll with Brady and risk him getting hurt for an extended period of time? Or, should I start Mallett and try to find a cheap emergency QB which could hurt my cap? Thanks guys!

Mallett to Start

Ryan Mallett Receives Nod to Start

FOXBOROUGH, MA-- The New England Patriots and Bill Belichick have announced that Tom Brady will be inactive for the next game against the Panthers. Brady suffered from a broken finger on his throwing hand in the first quarter in the win against the Steelers prior to the bye-week. Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels stated that "Brady is healing well, but we don't need to throw him out there and make it worse." Josh McDaniels also mentioned that Ryan Mallett is ready to start and could "start over many of these quarterbacks you see today." Mallett went 19/27 for 183 yards, one touchdown and was picked off twice in his first regular season playing time two weeks ago.

Brady-less. Away from home. Ryan Mallett's first start is sure to be an entertaining one as he and the New England Patriots walk into the den of the underwhelming, but hungry, Carolina Panthers.
