Glad to have you on board. Maybe I should just lose all of the games vs the Steelers.

Browns Gameday Preview: Week 8

The (soon to be LA???) Raiders come into town this week, so the Brownies have a shot to get above .500 for the first time in forever.

Alright. It is fair to say that the Browns overlooked the Jaguars last week. They aren't using that as their excuse, but they are respecting the capabilities of the Raiders, especially their running game and pass defense. Maurice Jones-Drew will see a big load running the ball, trying to help out rookie QB Derek Carr whenever possible, but with Latavius Murray out for another week, the Raiders lack the depth at halfback that they have grown accustomed to.

On defense, the Raiders have a ton of playmakers that can really give Johnny Manziel problems. It starts up front, where the tandem of Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul, former Giants teammates, will close off any rushing lanes as well as get after Manziel, causing anything from a hurried throw and an interception to a sack and fumble. Linebackers Khalil Mack and Sio Moore have also proven to be reliable defenders of both the passing game and running game. To top it all off, the otherwise young secondary is led by veteran Heisman winner Charles Woodson. As the Browns have seen with Joe Haden, 1 strong DB will not work wonders for your team, but it can still keep the other team's #1 receiver in check all game, and that it what the Raiders look to do with Josh Gordon. They feel that if they can slow him down, they have a shot, since the running game of the Browns will be down for 1 more week before the return of Andre Ellington. Isaiah Crowell gets his last shot as a starter in this one. This game is also the first late game for the Browns on the season, so they crowd will be amped up.

Game Notes
4:25 PM Kickoff on CBS.
There is quite a difference overall in these offenses. We have the best and worst going at it today in Believeland.
With a win, the Browns will move above .500 for the first time in forever (a Frozen joke for the kids, just go with it).
The Raiders fell victim to Arizona at home last week by a score of 20-10.
The Browns needed a last minute TD run from Money Manziel to get past the Jaguars 37-33 in Jacksonville.

Re: Cleveland's Revival: A Dawg Pound Tale

Gameday Recap: Browns 41, Raiders 35 (OT)
Brownies move above .500 despite another terrible defensive performance.

Miles Austin strides into the end zone, getting past Charles Woodson, on the first possession of overtime.

It was the perfect start. The Browns marched straight down the field and scored on the game's opening possession. Even better, on the Raiders' 3rd play from scrimmage, Derek Carr threw it right into the hands of Joe Haden. The Browns were up 7-0 and had the ball inside Oakland territory. They failed to get a first down, but still had a shot at a 60 yard field goal, with the wind at their back. Coach Freday chose to punt instead. That changed the game. The Raiders' offense caught fire, while the Browns' offense cooled off and about the length of one quarter later, Oakland was up 21-7. An Isaiah Crowell TD on a short run cut it to 21-14, but the Browns couldn't prevent a Sebastian Janikowski field goal before halftime. 24-14.

The defense actually played great for the first quarter and a half of the second quarter. They gave the Browns a chance to come back. Down 24-21 early in the 4th, Billy Cundiff missed a field goal that would have tied the game, prompting Coach Freday to adjust the FG sliders after the game. The momentum had been given back to Oakland, but the Cleveland defense adjusted and got a stop, but Janikowski, one of the league's most reliable kickers, lined up for a 50 yard try with the help of the wind, which is almost a chip shot for him. Nailed it. 27-21 Raiders. The Browns responded wonderfully with a 9 play, 77 yard drive that ended in a 1 yard scramble by Manziel for a score, his first carry of the day. The extra point from Cundiff made it 28-27 Browns. After a quick three and out and 60+ yard punt by Marquette King, the Browns took the field with dreams of extending their lead. They didn't, and they had to punt it back to Oakland with about 2:30 left to play. The punt, which was into the wind, was decent, but was returned by Denarius Moore to the Oakland 43 yard line. With the wind on their side an being only down 1, the Raiders only needed about 20 yards to have a chance to win the game. But the rookie QB wanted more. Derek Carr engineered a masterful drive, going 6/6 on the drive, and found Andre Holmes for the score and the 2 point conversion, but made the mistake of using two of his timeouts, leaving 1:08 on the clock for the league's best offense, which had 2 timeouts to work with.

The kickoff was a touchback. Enough said. Starting at the 20, Manziel looked over the middle and found Jordan Cameron, but... FUMBLE!!! Charles Woodson's hit not only knocked the ball loose, but also knocked Cameron out of the game. Thankfully, Josh Gordon was lurking and fell on the ball before Woodson could. But with the injury, the Browns lost 1 of their 2 remaining timeouts. That didn't bother the other rookie QB on the field though. He founf Amendola over the middle for a first down, then Austin over the middle, and hurried his troops to the line. A quick curl route and catch by Gordon put the ball at the 9 with 20 seconds left, clock running of course. Instead of using the timeout or spiking the ball, Manziel ran up to the line and found Miles Austin in the end zone of an out route. The extra point tied it up. We were headed to OT.

The Browns won the toss and chose to receive. Using a passive aggressive method, calling only plays that the Browns' offense were used to and comfortable with, the Browns took about 4:30 to get down to the 20. On 1st down, Miles Austin lined up in the slot. The Raiders were in zone, but Austin still found an opening in his crossing route over the middle. Manziel got it to him near the first down, and all of a sudden he had one man to beat. Charles Woodson. A juke got him past Woodson, and he dove into the end zone. Ball game. Not pretty, but a win's a win, right?

Andre Holmes celebrates after his touchdown catch put the Raiders in the lead with just over a minute left.

Johnny Manziel finds Miles Austin in the end zone to tie the game with 11 secnds remaining. The Cardiac Kids strike again.

Thanks for checking in LopaKa! Glad to hear that you enjoy the layout. I'm making slider adjustments on the FG game only, and they turned out to pay big dividends in the Tampa Bay game. Stay tuned for results.
