Texas Tech Keys to the Game:

Limit Turnovers: Like many other games in the 2014 season, the Red Raiders had some turnovers that kept a game close when they could've put the Jayhawks away. They've had some problems controlling the ball so far this season and they need to turn it around.

Re: Masters of the Air Raid: A Texas Tech Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

Raiders Roll for First Conference Win!

The Red Raiders took the road to Lawrence this week to play in a stadium that they never play well in...during the first quarter. They'd been outscored 30-7 in the first quarter of their last 2 trips to Lawrence, but both times had rallied and won big.

This year the Red Raiders got off to a hot start after Kansas HB, Corey Avery tripped over his own man on the opening kickoff and fell down at the 5 Yd line and on the first play from scrimmage the Jayhawk QB, Michael Cummings was picked off by LB Andre Ross at the 9 and Ross walked in for a TD. Avery would redeem himself for the opening kickoff though, as he took the next play from scrimmage 78 Yds for a TD to tie the game. The Red Raider offense finally got onto the field and showed what they could do when DeAndre Washington found the endzone from 7 Yds out and gave the Raiders the lead once again. Cummings had his struggles in the first quarter and he continued with another INT, this time to Nigel Bethel ll who took it back to the KU 17, where Mahomes found Lauderdale for a TD.

Andre Ross picks off Cummings for a TD.

The Jayhawks tried to get back into the game, coming within 7 when Avery broke a couple tackles to score his 2nd and final TD of the game. The Red Raiders would keep the Jayhawks away though, Washington and Mahomes scored on the ground and the Jayhawk offense couldn't move the ball after their TD drive and the Red Raiders went into the break with a commanding 35-14 lead.

Washington runs for a TD to make it 35-14

The second half became boring as there was very little offense thanks to Pat Mahomes throwing an INT and the Red Raider defense playing lights out (but that's a good thing). The Red Raiders would get back into the endzone late in the third on a Mahomes pass to Cantrell that finally put the Jayhawks away for good.

Cantrell makes a TD catch

The Jayhawk offense finally got back to the endzone early in the fourth but it was too little, too late for Kansas, as they fell to the Red Raiders. The Raiders added 2 more garbage TDs and improved to 4-1 (1-1).

Texas Tech Keys to the Game:

Win the Turnover Battle: Something that the Red Raiders are not accustomed to but did do last week is getting more takeaways than giveaways, if they do this on Saturday then they will run away with it.

Show up Ready: With a big game next week after a snoozer like this one, it's easy for teams (especially Texas Tech) to overlook a game and get upset. They've got to remember that the season only goes 1 week at a time.

Re: Masters of the Air Raid: A Texas Tech Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

Defense Stiffens, Raiders Win 3rd Straight!

The Red Raiders came into Saturday's game with back-to-back victories. They ended the easiest part of their schedule with a home game vs the Iowa State Cyclones.

The Red Raiders got the ball first after ISU deferred to the second half. It didn't take the Red Raiders long to get into the endzone as scored on a 4th and goal swing pass to DeAndre Washington that he took into the endzone and it was actually ruled as a rushing TD for Washington. The Cyclones didn't waste any time getting back into the game as they scored just over a minute later on a 29 Yd run by QB Sam B. Richardson and the game was tied at 7. The Raiders have grown comfortable in situations like this and the offense struck again on a 1 Yd run by Justin Stockton.

Washington scores on a swing pass

Just 3 seconds into the second quarter, the Cyclones tied things up on a 3 Yd run. The Red Raider offense was determined to keep the Cyclones in a hole though and Washington gave the Raiders the lead back on his 2nd TD run of the game. Richardson made sure that the lead didn't last very long, as he kept the ball on a read option and took it 75 Yds to the house. After a missed extra point by the cyclones, the score was 21-20 TTU. The Red Raider offense extended their lead on their next possession, when Washington found the endzone for the 3rd time in the afternoon and the Raiders led 28-20 going into the halfway point of the game.

Washington runs for his 2nd TD

The Red Raider defense came out of the tunnel for the second half determined to prove that they can get wins for their team, and they proved that they could, shutting down the Cyclones in the third quarter, stuffing the run game and getting key stops on their side of the field. The offense on the other hand, decided that getting into the endzone wasn't important as they to were held to a punt and a Mahomes INT in the red zone. The third quarter ended with the same score as the last, 28-20 TTU.

Grant makes a catch in traffic.

The fourth quarter was almost the same as the third but the offense for the Raiders found the endzone twice and the defense remained stiff, not giving anything to the Cyclone offense and even coming up with a huge INT to seal the game and put away the Cyclones. The Red Raiders improved to 5-1 (2-1) and head to Morgantown, WV next week.

Lauderdale makes it a 22 point game.
