2018 SEASON PREVIEW.....2018 ROSTER.....2018 SCHEDULE.....
2018 RECRUITING BOARD.....

WEEK FIVE

#1 FLORIDA GATORS (3-0, 2-0)
AT.
#15 KENTUCKY WILDCATS (3-0, 2-0)

LEXINGTON, Kentucky -- #15 Kentucky were already 21-7 down by the end of the first quarter behind two touchdown catches by senior tight end C'Yontai Lewis and a short 1-yard run by Jordan Cronkrite and by the end of the first half the #1 Florida Gators were seemingly on their way to another routine win over the Wildcats, a team that hasn't beaten them in 31 years.

However that wasn't the case, behind a second half shutout from the Kentucky defense and a performance from sophomore quarterback Brandon Dixon that Kentucky head coach Lincoln Riley described as "Heisman worthy" the Wildcats were able to throttle the #1 team in the country and earn a 42-27 win on a warm Saturday evening at Kroger Field.

Riley wasn't far wrong in his examination of Dixon's game, on the flip reverse his rival across the field in Luke Del Rio has already got Heisman voters talking with performances like this all year. Brandon Dixon threw for 341-yards and four touchdowns, he finished the game with a 74% completion average and a career high QB rating of 209.1.

"We proved we a really here," Dixon said after the game. "We proved to everyone who doubted us this week that this team is strong enough and good enough to beat them. We proved we really are a handful and that when the chips are down were together enough as a squad to bring things back."

As already stated Kentucky (4-0, 3-0) completely shutdown an offense that ranked #4 in the country in scoring coming into the game in the second half and senior linebacker Denzil Ware, who recorded a team leading eight tackles and one sack said that defensive coordinator Chris Rumph had a few choice words for them at half-time.

"He said, do we want to be that defense that is known for rolling over and giving up," Ware told reporters. "If I could repeat what he said without getting in trouble I would (laughter), but he put it to us that he didn't want to go down like this against his old team nor did he want the rest of the league thinking that they can come in here a disrespect us like they did in the first half."

Ware wasn't the only defensive player to step up big in the second half, fellow senior Chris Westry was on hand to make two big interceptions of Luke Del Rio in the fourth quarter and this set up two touchdown runs from true freshman Malik Dixon.

The takeaway for Florida was that second half meltdown and no one felt that more than their senior quarterback. Del Rio didn't play the second half with his normal poise, he looked like a different quarterback when the Kentucky defense started to put big hits on him and thus the Gators started to lean a lot more on running back Jordan Cronkrite and this isn't always the best gameplan when your chasing points late on.

"We're going to learn from this," Del Rio said. "It's humbling. The unfortunate thing about that was that it was in our hands. We balled out in the first half and then they seemed to take a big boost of Gatorade at half-time and completely outplayed us in the second."

Del Rio's Heisman hopes may have taken a slight hit with this loss too. The quarterback finished the game passing for 277-yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Kentucky's true freshman running back Malik Dixon finally showed signs that he could replace Boom Williams. The former four-star prospect out of Cardinal Mooney High School wasn't to be completely overshadowed by his brother Brandon in this one and against a Gators defense that came into the game ranked No.13 in the country against the rush he put up 98-yards and two touchdowns off 24 carries, the 6-foot-2, 220lbs runner did have a fumble in the game after taking a big hit from Florida's David Reese and that was noted by his head coach.

"Malik is getting better each week," Lincoln Riley said when asked about his freshman running back after the game. "He had his best game for us today by far, he looked like a true number one runner. That is his first turnover of the season and we will be working with him this week in getting him to protect the ball better."

Dixon wasn't the only Kentucky runner to have a fumble, sophomore Corey Booth, whose carries have dwindled slightly in the last two games was also at fault for a turnover and this came on just two carries.

Next week, Kentucky's run of home games continues when the #18 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (4-1, 2-1) come into town. Ironically the Wildcats bounced back from a loss to Florida with a 45-28 win over the Gamecocks last season.

That second half we really got them, it was rather easy to score on them in the second half it was like we wore them down.

I have a Elgato Game Capture HD and then I just sharped them up in Paint Shop Pro.

Nation's No.1 overall recruit Dwayne Mills commits to Kentucky.
Mills is just another talented recruit in the fold for this Kentucky program

By Joseph Duarte, Kentucky Insider.

LEXINGTON, Kentucky -- Five-star Athlete Dwayne Mills, the No. 1 high school football prospect in the nation, made his decision on Tuesday morning, verbally committing to Kentucky, his commitment came just two days after the prospect watched the Wildcats crush the #1 team in the nation on Saturday.

A 6-foot-1, 206-pound recruit who plays a number of positions on offense and defense is most likely to find himself at either running back or cornerback next season when he enrols at the Kentucky campus in Lexington.

The five-star recruit had offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Georgia. It was believed that Ohio State would be his preferred destination at the start of the season considering he is an Ohio native.

The Aurora native visited Kentucky four times since mid-may- including his official visit this past weekend -- and has now decided to make Lexington his official home. Many believe a key factor in Mills' decision to surprisingly commit to Kentucky was the fact that his brother Courtney Mills has also committed to the Kentucky program to play basketball next year, but the recruit insists that family was not the reason for his decision.

"Look at what that offense did this weekend," Mills said this afternoon. "The completely took apart the best team in the country in the second half and I would love to be apart of Coach Riley's team next next season. I'd prefer to play at running back but that is obviously the coaching staffs final decision."

While there is no such thing in college recruiting as a "sure thing" when it comes to high school prospects translating their skills into the collegiate level. Mills is considered as one of those talents who shouldn't find it a problem to be a impact player for Kentucky no matter what side of the ball he plays on. Should Mills end up as a running back it is not expected that he will be a day 1 starter with both Malik Dixon and Corey Booth already on the roster, but his other-worldly talent will at least command some respect when he gets to campus is spring.

"This is the one of the best high school players I've ever covered and that's not a statement I've ever made before," said Barton Simmons, 247Sports' director of scouting. "I think he's a transcendent talent with key attributes that will help his team towards a national championship. In today's game, where athleticism and speed kills at any position you have a player like Mills who has bags of both."

With Mills now in tow, it means that head coach Lincoln Riley has his first commitment of his 2019 recruiting class and what is also his first "true" season recruiting at Kentucky.

2018 SEASON PREVIEW.....2018 ROSTER.....2018 SCHEDULE.....
2018 RECRUITING BOARD.....

WEEK SIX

#18 SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS (4-1, 2-1)
AT.
#12 KENTUCKY WILDCATS (4-0, 3-0)

LEXINGTON, Kentucky -- Kentucky head coach Lincoln Riley is really tired of getting asked the same question after every game and he made that abundantly clear in his post game comments after his Kentucky Wildcats team got their fifth win of the season in another hammering of a ranked opponent, this time it was #18 South Carolina who were handled 52-7.

"You keep asking me is this team for real, or are we just pretenders," Riley said. "This is about the fourth time I have had to answer this question this season and I will say the same thing I have done to all the other people before you who asked this question. We're 5-0, we have scored 94 points in the last two weeks, and have won back-to-back games against the #1 and #18 ranked teams both in our division. That's enough of an answer for me, and it is the last time I will answer that question this season."

Kentucky has now won its second straight game over South Carolina, and to be honest this one never looked in doubt when the Wildcats took a 24-7 lead into half-time. Yet again sophomore quarterback Brandon Dixon was at the center of everything that went well today and several key defensive plays meant the Wildcats would make their first 5-0 start to a season since the days of Bear Bryant.

Kentucky started out fast and took control of the games early battles and would score the only points of the first quarter. Brandon Dixon's first rushing touchdown of the season would cap off a fourteen play opening drive. After marching the ball downfield themselves the Gamecocks opening drive would come to a sudden halt with two consecutive sacks of Jake Bentley by Denzil Ware and Adrian Middleton forcing the Gamecocks to punt the ball back to the Wildcats, who would go on to score fourteen more points before South Carolina added their only points of the day through A.J. Turner.

"This shows to everyone that we have a mean side," Kentucky team captain Jordan Jones said after the game. "Six sacks, an interception and a forced fumble all in one game, what were they the 11th/12th best offense coming into the game and we held them to 152-yards. This teams for real ya'll and its about time the nation stood up and counted us."

After South Carolina's only touchdown, this is where Brandon Dixon really took over the game. The sophomore closed out the first half hitting his favourite target this season true freshman Jaylon Brown for a 36-yard touchdown connection.

"Brandon and Jaylon have quickly developed some sort of telepathic kinesis out there," senior tight end C.J. Conrad said. "All jokes aside, these two just seem to know where the other is going to be and it is working out well for our offense this season."

Later, following a touchdown connection between Conrad and Dixon the following kickoff return by Rico Dowdle would see a fumble which was forced and recovered by Wildcats CB Jordan Griffin deep in South Carolina territory. The Dixon brothers would add a further rushing touchdowns to close out the scoring and a final score of 52-7.

It seem like it's now becoming a weekly thing for Brandon Dixon but the quarterback stole the show again today with six total touchdowns. Dixon would finish the game 15-from-19 for 214-yards, three touchdowns and one interception passing but it was the damage he did on the ground that will impress scouts at the next level. Dixon came into Kentucky as a dual-threat quarterback but has rarely used his legs to his favour but today he finished the game with 156-yards and three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries.

In total the Wildcats had 344 total rushing yards and four touchdowns. With Malik Dixon rushing for 107-yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and Corey Booth finishing with 83-yards on 10 carries.

Kentucky were also an impressive seven of nine on third down conversions, and South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was quoted as saying "We couldn't get them off the field and get our own offense on, and when we did they stop us, so what can you do?".

Muschamps summed up what was a gloomy day for a team who came into the game with a 4-1 record and impressive wins over Georgia and Texas A&M.

Sophomore quarterback Jake Bentley was sacked no less than six times in the game and finished with a season low 165-yards passing, he also threw a pick straight into the hands of Kentucky linebacker Denzil Ware. A.J. Turner who was returning to the starting lineup after missing the last two weeks with a Strained Achilles was less that impressive like Bentley, the Wildcats defense held turner to just 42-yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

The takeaway from this game is that the Kentucky offense knows how to score points. Only Alabama (232) has scored more points on offense than Kentucky (181) this season in the SEC.

Up next for Kentucky (5-0, 4-0) things do not get any easier when they welcome #3 Notre Dame (5-0) to Kroger Field. It is well known that the Wildcats have the toughest schedule in college football this season and will need to be on top form again as they welcome the Fighting Irish into a hostile 70,000 or so crowd. The Fighting Irish have college footballs #2 ranked offense behind Alabama, the Fighting Irish also have the nations #6th ranked rush defense.

Hard to believe this can look better than it already did a few months back. The presentation is unparalleled as always. I'll have to go back and catchup with the Wildcats cuz man are they rolling.
