5-star Iosua commits to Texas, nations best offensive tackle
Tom Herman's first recruiting class could be the Longhorns best ever!.

By Cody Daniel | @CodyDanielSBN | Nov 18, 2017, 19:20 CDT

Austin, Texas -- Tom Herman's stern patrol over his 2018 recruiting class continued today with the recruitment of the nations No.1 ranked offensive tackle, Kai Iosua out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Iosau will give Texas a big boost up front and head coach Tom Herman will know just how important it was to secure the commitment of the 6-foot-5, 285 lbs recruit.

The commitment only strengthens the Longhorns position as the No. 1 ranked recruiting class for 2018.

Before choosing the Longhorns, the Hawaii native was recruited by the likes of Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, and LSU. The 5-star lineman is the No. 2 ranked player in his region behind Oklahoma commit Michael Jefferson and the No. 3 ranked player in the class.

At 6'5" and 285 pounds, Iosua has the size and strength (86 STR) to excel at the next level, and whilst he isn't the most agile tackle in the class (58 AGI) he does he the burst of speed to get out and block in front (92 ACC) . While there will certainly be times when a defender coming off the edge beats him, Iosua has the technique to ensure that isn't a consistent problem.

Iosua is by no means the finished project and most certainly has the room for improvement but he should be able to play right away for Texas who could potentially lose their best offensive tackle Connor Williams to the NFL at the end of this season.

Kai Iosua publicly named Texas as his leader earlier in the spring and, despite Nebraska making a noticeable run, the Longhorns could not be beaten for his services, and a lot of that can be accountable to the relationship built up between Iosau and Longhorns offensive line coach Derek Warehime.

"Coach Warehime at Texas, he's the one coach that I had the strongest bond with through this process. "Iosua recently told Horns247. "He's been with coach Herman for a long time and knows the process that coach wants. He has been in consistent contact with me this season and even though Texas offered me under the old coaching staff, the rapport I built with coach Warehime in a short time (He was being recruiting by Herman at Houston) meant the choice to come to Austin from Hawaii wasn't a hard one."

Iosau took his official visit to Texas during the Longhorns 24-10 win over bitter rivals Oklahoma.

Texas had not signed a 5-star prospect since 2015 coming into this years recruiting process, when the Longhorns inked current linebacker Malik Jefferson, the Longhorns 2018 recruiting class now has three in Isau, linebacker Zeph Cook and receiver James Robinson.

2017 SEASON PREVIEW.....2017 ROSTER.....2017 SCHEDULE.....

WEEK EIGHT

#4 OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS (6-0, 3-0) AT. #11 TEXAS LONGHORNS (5-1, 3-0)

Austin, Texas -- Oklahoma State came into today's game in Austin, unbeaten and ranked as the No. 4 team in the country in the coaches poll, however the only two winning teams they have beaten on their schedule were Tulsa (5-2) and Texas Tech (4-3) and that showed today as the Cowboys were slapped in the mouth and were sent packing by an in form No. 11 ranked Texas.

The Texas defense continued to shine for the Longhorns, holding Oklahoma State, which entered the game with the fifth-best scoring average in the FBS at 38.0 points per game, to a season low 21 points.

Junior linebacker Anthony Wheeler and sophomore safety Brandon Jones led the team with 5 tackles, but it was fellow sophomore defensive tackle Gerald Wilbon who stole the show for the Texas defense who collected a career best three sacks in the game. Malcolm Roach who missed last weekends win over Oklahoma returned to the depth chart today and added two more sacks to take his tally to 11 for the season (NCAA leading).

The Cowboys scored first, closing out a 10-play 64-yard drive with a 29-yard field goal from Matt Amendola to take a 3-0 lead with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter.

Texas soon took over the game scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter which seemed to take the Cowboys by surprise. Texas receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey was getting his first start of the season having supplanted Reggie Hemphill-Mapps who moved into the slot for today's game and the sophomore quickly showed what he could do; being man targeted by Cowboys corner Rondarius Williams, Humphrey gave what best can be described as Bambi legs and broke free in the end-zone and was comfortably found by Sam Ehlinger to give the Longhorns a 7-3 lead.

The Texas defense continued to halt the Cowboys offense and hand their offense back the ball quickly and the Longhorns ended the first half with two quick scoring touchdown runs from Kyle Porter and Sam Ehlinger, Ehlinger's being slightly controversial after being reviewed upstairs.

The Cowboys seemed to find a new leash of life when they came out in the second half and that had to be down to something head coach Mike Gundy said to his team at half-time, the head coach was obviously unhappy when he trounced of the field and into the locker room. Mason Rudolph, a quarter who has NFL hopes was under constant pressure all game but his first major highlight came when he hit Chris Lacy in the deepest corner of the endzone to give the Cowboys some hope early in the third quarter and they even pulled the game back to 21-13 before the third quarter would end with another Matt Amendola field goal.

Texas though would not allow themselves to crumble, and despite a shaky third quarter from their true freshman quarterback whose tenth interception of the season set up a Cowboys scoring drive the Longhorns would once again dominate a surprisingly lacklustre Cowboys defense, a defense who came into the game ranked considerably higher than the Longhorns.

Kyle Porter would add two touchdown runs to take his tally to three on the day before Rudolph threw for a consolation touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Porter, who coming into the game had not had a single 100+ rushing performance all season standing in for the injured Chris Warren finally broke that barrier down and was the key performer for the Longhorns offense today, he rushed for 116-yards, three touchdowns on 21 carriers and averaged 5.5-yards per carry.

"It felt good to get that monkey off my back," Porter told reporters after the game. "It has been eating away at me with each game that passed. I had 94 yards, 85 yards but just couldn't seem to brake that barrier but today I did, and now I can build upon that performance as the season progresses"

The Longhorns are on the road the next two weeks, starting with a trip to Waco for a Big 12 matchup with the Baylor Bears on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff at McLane Stadium is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT.
