The Atlanta Falcons hit the reset button in the offseason, cleaning house after firing both their GM and head coach. In comes former Bears offensive coordinator Rob Roy, who took full control of the franchise and will look to put the pieces together for a playoff run.
“This team has loads of potential and if we can get things clicking early on this season, I can see us having a special year,” said head coach Rob Roy.
On paper the Falcons offense looks solid, full of superstars and playmakers. However, it is their defense that will carry this team. Deion Jones is the leader on this unit and he will look to mentor rookie linebacker Micah Parsons, who was taken with the 4th overall selection in the 2021 draft.
He is one of the few rookies that will step in and contribute from day one, as 2nd round pick Trey Hill will start at left guard and 3rd round pick Aidan Hutchinson will be the teams starting right defensive end.
Matt Ryan enters his 13th season as the Falcons starting quarterback and although he has looked sharp the past couple of years, he is due for a decline at 36 years old.
The good news is he still has one of the best receivers in the league to throw to in Julio Jones, who is just one of the many weapons at Ryan’s disposal. Calvin Ridley continues to improve and Donovan Peoples-Jones is coming into his own.
Roy and the Falcons also continued to try and improve their offensive line in the offseason, adding center Mike Pouncey and rookie guard Trey Hill, hoping to keep Ryan off the turf.
