Re: PS4 Discussion (MLB The Show 14)

Really hope they use their resources most to player development. Not at all in terms of solely progression or declining, regression factors. But in relation to development that comes from players daily factors, such as injuries, coaching, repetitions, all events in games, such as letting down in a clutch situation, getting pulled, positive or negative reputations for varios factors, and such things that they go through daily, that affect them more than just the stat line over previous games.. They play their games, they get roughly 4 at bats a night, that should not be the sole determinant of their ratings, whether they get xbh's or go 2-4 etc. What I want to see reflected in the PS4 version of players, is an affect on athleticism, awareness, morale, along with physical abilities but the thing about physical ability, is that they don't change so drastically, over anyone's career. Even a guy with low skill sets, stays that way even though he's in the big leagues for a stint. I want to see the developers in this PS4 and how far they have gone in developing different player models, not just in graphics or animations.

edit -- Equally exciting would be seeing the development of pitchers. Pitchers who are missing their location with particular pitches, or getting into trouble for various reasons, high pitch counts, no putaway pitches. The coaching and development and fatigue they deal with daily, I'd love to see reflected in this game. Sometimes we leave out pitchers in these conversation, but their struggles and development will affect the gameplay equally as much as the batters and fielders. And I think this system, will provide a new emphasis we never have had before, on our coaching staff. They will have some newfound importance and say-so in what we do for our franchises.

I also want to see a pregame in MLB the Show, and thankfully we won't have to forego if it's missing in MLB 14'. I'd like to see a pregame, of some sort, and it's their job to implement these things, so I won't theorize a way to mechanically put it in. But I just want to see things, like pregame batting practice, maybe teamwide or just randomly with a player, and shagging fly balls or light long toss, basic pregame stuff, optional of course. It's just that sometimes it's so difficult to be ready for those first AB's especially with a new player or non-everyday. I'd like to familarize my self even further with a franchise club than just when I see them turn up in the lineup order of a real game.

I can't wait to see what they do with the Wrigley Field Ivy in the ps4. If they can go from 42 to 1000 different crowd personas then I would think that the ivy is going to be awesome. I love how on the ps3 that every 2 weeks or so the ivy would change starting from no ivy in the beginning of April and it progressively replenishes by June retroactive to the time of season that it is. Such an awesome feature. The ps4 should complete this feature.

MLB the Show is one of the only games that I'm feeling very confident for on the PS4. SECA never removes any features, they consistently put out a solid product that builds on the prior years progress. The Show will be a release date purchase for me this year like it has been every year.

As a Jays fan for the love of god I beg of you please please please bring in some sort of create a stadium

Also speaking as a player that does not think he's a g.o.a.t player but more of a L.A.M.B ( lame *** mediocre ball player)

this is an under the hood thing but if you look at almost all the slider sets out there the one thing that always gets lowered dramatically is the strike freq slider.

As a lower level player it is very frustrating to have this set at 0 at times and the CPU is still throwing 80% strikes.. It makes it very difficult to NOT swing a lot and to develop the ability to draw walks and become a more disciplined hitter

Some people just don't develop those skills sometimes ya know?

Increase the hitting difficulty. There are sets out there that do not lower the strike frequency much if at all.

I was thinking it would be cool to have a real personal locker type room for your career to record and look at all your trophies ( ROTY , MVP's . World Series rings ect ) personal major league achievements and yearly stats ect to access and follow through the years and beyond now that PS4 will be able to continue career information for each new installment of the Show.

Is it me or am I wrong in thinking we at least had a pretty good Sneak Peak pic by this time last year. I would love to see a pic of PS4 player in action or something. Like Prince Fielder blasting one or something.

We saw early build models...I was thinking more of like current up to date full body pic. I just want to see if they changed the entire player models or did they "port" what they already have.

I would imagine by the middle of December we will have heard/seen some more stuff. I have no reason to believe this other than how past marketing schedules have gone.

Hopefully, it just becomes the way pitchers pitch and/or that the strike frequency slider becomes more powerful. Seems weird to have to increase the difficulty, which brings another bunch of side effects as well when I just want the pitchers to try to work the count just like I'm trying to so there's a cat and mouse battle, not swing or else it's 0-2.

Same with pick offs - get rid of the input reading by the CPU and have it be more organic and related to the actual pick off slider. It's "amazing" how often the CPU tries picking off only when I hit the L1 to lead or have a steal called, but the rest of the time, basically just ignores the runner. Do some pitch outs in "odd" counts (obviously not 3-ball counts), mix in some just stepping off, take into consideration when I go (if I often go on 1-1, do more anti-steal things around that count), etc.

Unfortunately they pound the zone on the lower difficulties. You can always turn up Contact and Timing to offset higher difficulty.

Exactly the point I am making!

Besides if you look at the top rated slider sets on this forum almost all of them lower the strike freq to 4 or lower most are around 3 and almost all of them are set up for allstar or higher

Not everyone has the skills or the time to spend hours improving their skills to move up to allstar and higher!

pounding the strike zone on lower hitting level doesn't teach players how to improve your approach. It just makes you look silly if you do try a higher level because you swing at everything which then discourages people from playing.

I love being a part of this forum as I am a hardcore baseball gamer but Idk about you but I know loads of people who quit playing. trade it in whatever because they can't improve because the learning curve from vet to allstar is stupid hard. rookie level I get it chances are they need that because they can't determine the strike zone but vet should be a least a little more realistic not 80% strikes by the #5 guy in the rotation that just got called up for an emergency start

A simple code change to a lower strike feq. would do a world of difference to the casual guy that want's some realistic stats

Turn the speed down. Myself I do not mind the hitting (earlier versions more so) being a bit on the difficult side. I like low scoring bb games anyway. I don't play the game with lowered pitch speeds but it will be easier to at least get an idea when you should let a pitch go. I haven't played the game all that long and am a bit on the older side and AS is the absolute lowest I will ever go for hitting. If you can find a hitting cam you like it makes it a lot easier.

If you are seeing 80% strike, the issue is more likely that you are swinging at too many borderline pitches and making them strikes. That's something people need to be careful if they want to improve. Yes, it is hard to recognize balls and strikes on those pitches, but that's exactly why pitchers want to exploit the area of the strike zone.

If you take a lot of those border line pitches, you can bring the strike % down to 60 - 70% range, which is realistic.

And if you are a type who get strike % upward of 80%, then I don't really think lower Strike Frequency will help you hit better, because you would be swinging at a lot of pitches off the strike zone and will be making them strikes anyways.
