Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I just started July in my OSFM Cards franchise. I am using 30 team control and was gonna start looking to make a handful of big trades and smaller trades to fit some team needs. But I've run into a bit of a pickle... Tampa (with Price) and Kansas City (with Shields) are first place in their respective divisions. With both teams (for arguments sake) unlikely to sign their aces in the offseason, do they still trade them despite competing? Both teams have a couple game lead in their division and would otherwise be in the WC.

Also, is it realistic to think that Texas (1st in their division) would trade either Andrus, Profar, or Sarrina (I forgot spelling, but a nice middle infield prospect) to bring in some pitching help? I'd like to send them Lynn and maybe some other pieces depending on that guy they would be willing to give up.

Regarding Texas, are injuries on? If not, I think their pitching is fine with Darvish, Holland, Perez, Harrison & Colby...

Young is hitting .282 with a .541 SLG through 85 at-bats, with 6 homers and 4 steals. Their values match up on the spreadsheet but is it realistic?
I don't see any problem with Starling being moved but im not sure it'd be for someone like Chris Young...plus Young would have to continue his production for a bit longer

We started the year out horribly, but fired Ventura and the hitting coach after a 3-10 start. That helped a bit, and since then, 10-14, but it's obvious this team can't compete. Quintana has also been money early.

I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the state of the White Sox, and I could use some suggestions on what I could do to improve the lineup, and also, how can I improve the catcher position? Flowers makes me cry.
I think, the first thing with turning around CWS, is getting their farm system up to at least middle-of-the-pack....if you're resigned to not contending this year and if any/all of the following guys are producing, I'd ship them off ASAP: Dunn/Beckham, Ramirez, De Aza, Gillaspie, Danks.....as for your catching, that's really tough because most of the top-tier catching prospects are not blocked by long-term vets.....maybe take a look at Andrew Susac from SF?

Much appreciated. The direction you suggest seems most apt to me. The one thing though, is that I have Sale at 25, Quintana at 25, and Abreu at 27—a complete blow up for the future based on the farm seems to be a disservice to these guys. Does that mean I shop go all in and get a some top tier prospects for them too?

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

To elaborate on my last post regarding trading Matt Kemp. I've been real hesitant to do it because his ratings are solid so I keep waiting for him to bounce back but it never seems to happen. I'm at the point where I'm 95% sure I'm dealing him once Puig is back in a week or so seeing as Kemp would only platoon and play against LHP at that point. I really want a 3B or a Catcher (although the previous option of Allen Craig seemed perfect since he can rake against LHP and is more then solid against RHP but am having trouble lining up the financial side of things). Juan Uribe has been in a month long slump to the point that I'm starting Chone Figgins over him at 3B on a daily basis, Carl Crawford just came back so that might push Kemp to a platoon already and once Puig is back it might all but eliminate Kemp as Ethier is doing just fine against LHP for some odd reason. I want to keep everything as balanced and fair as possible and while I could make the deal with St Louis work I believe, the fact that they are leading their division currently leads me to believe they would have no real reason to take on Kemp's bloated contract when they're already doing so well as it is. I'm currently in the middle of June in my franchise, would it be better to wait until closer to the deadline in hopes St Louis somehow falls apart making a deal for Craig a little more realistic? If I was targeting a catcher, is there any that come to mind? I'd love a top end guy but have a feeling it's pretty unrealistic to get one in return but at the same time, Kemp's stats not withstanding, his ratings are such that he should hit a lot better when I'm not controlling him so I figure my haul shouldn't be too terribly bad. Getting a guy at 3B would be an option as well (Craig has 3B listed as a position he can play but his fielding ratings are horrible). Basically at this point I'm desperate sitting at 33-31 and having just been swept by Colorado to push me 4.5 games back in the division and feel like the time to shake things up to try and shore up a couple positions to make a push is here and now. Any opinions are welcome.

PS- I checked out the deals that were posted before when I was mentioning an OF'er and the only one that was tempting was Allen Craig so figured I'd expand on this to include a 3B or C and see what I get.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

A couple moves to run by for my Padres franchise which is in mid June.

1: Carlos Quentin (.278, 6 HR, 29 RBI) and Dale Thayer (having a decent year, I just don't like him and want to make room for Quackenbush) to Tampa for Tim Beckham. Tampa is leading the division by 5 game sand has the best record in the AL. I'm looking to make this move ASAP

2: Trying to decide where to ship Headley at the deadline. Right now the candidates are Atlanta, Dodgers, or would make him a LF for Milwaukee, Seattle, Angels. All are either leading division, wild card, or right in the hunt. From Atlanta I'd probably look into Bethancourt and/or Sims, Dodgers I'd want to enter around Pederson, Milwaukee probably Coulter and a couple other pieces, and not sure what I like from Seattle or the Angels but both seem like realistic landing places given the standings and their needs. Any thoughts?

emptying the cupboard completely is not that something I'd recommend either...a stud in Sale and building block in Quintana isn't that bad...throw in Erik Johnson and you have the makings of a decent rotation.....I'd keep Abreu and have him be my offensive brightspot until any of the youngsters are ready to help out

This may not solve your problems but when i have a team at a crossroads i try to acquire reclamation projects. Something similar to the Athletics i suppose so I target guys who have good ability but have yet to perform at the major league level. Usually teams give up on these players around age 25-27. Guys like Zach Britton from the Orioles tend to perform better in game than IRL (Britton before this year is what i mean) i will be starting a Twins dynasty when the Hybrid OD rosters come out and players like Britton, Pomeranz, and James McDonald are who i will try to bridge the gap to the prospects. Hitters are a little harder to find but I always hit well with Travis Snider and other former stud prospects who never quite panned out. Just a thought.

Also, I'd like to trade Cliff Lee to help rebuild this team, while staying steady around .500. Can anyone help with this one?

Who else would your recommend I add in? I don't know much about the Rays farm, but a couple others that caught my eye are Ryan Brett, Alex Colome and Enny Romero. With those 3 and Beckham in mind, what do you think is a fair deal for Quentin and Thayer? Thayer is actually having a better year than I thought at 1-1 with a 1.73 era and 24 ks in 36 innings, he will be a nice addition to their pen. Plus Balfour is out for another month with an injury, so he could even close in the meantime.

I still have Hedges, I just don't have much interest in the Braves prospects outside of Bethy and Sims. I'm leaning towards the Dpdgers because I like the idea of bringing Pederson in.
