Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I just got through playing in an epic World Series against the Nationals. Went 7 games. I had a 1-0 lead in the 9th, left Felix in to try and finish it, but Harper took him deep, ball was just out of the reach of James Jones. Then I had the bases loaded with 1 out in the bottom half of the 9th, before Seager grounded into a double play. Game would go to the 15th inning, where Mike Zunino hit a walk-off 2 run HR to win it, probably best game I've played in The Show, maybe ever.

Anyways, with that masterpiece out of the way, it's time for the offseason. I'm looking for a super utility type player for my bench who has good speed as well so I can pinch run him if need be, and can stay in the game at that position. I was kind of restricted with what I could do in the WS, especially on the road, I also need a backup catcher, and an upgrade at SS since I traded Franklin and a mid-level prospect for Billy Hamilton, and Miller struggled big time, so I need a plan B.

I'm eying Emilio Bonafocio, and Josh Harrison for that utility role, but is there another super utility player that should be on my radar? And what would be a realistic price tag? I also have no idea what to do at the backup catcher spot. Buck did a nice job, in his 170+ AB's he hit .231 with 7 HR's, but he's now gone. I'm looking for someone who is good behind the plate, and is no slouch with the bat, I may look in house and give Jesus Sucre the opportunity to win that job. Also, any suggestions on a cheapish SS that wont cost too much to get, but is above average across the board would be nice. I only need a stop-gap till the rookie I drafted in June progresses through the system. I have hopes he's the next great M's SS, like the one who shall remain nameless.

I may restart my franchise using 30 team control, but I have a noob question. If you set all the CPU teams to let the CPU manage trades, do you still get notifications that they are about to rape each other in a trade? Or do you have to check the transaction log? And do they always accept your trades, no matter what they are since you control them too? I've never used 30 team control. But after seeing Kris Bryant traded for a bench player, and middle reliever it is becoming pretty tempting.

You have to go through and check trade offers every day.

None of these guys have very much value

Yelich has a lot of value

Do you guys agree with SCEA that Yelich is an A pot? Just curious.

Sorry, quick off-topic question, but I haven't seen anywhere, besides roster projects, where people talk about player ratings as a discussion. I think it'd be neat for there to be a discussion thread like this that was a non-project thread. They tend to lean on just putting in the minor leaguers and getting the names correctly than changing/discussing ratings, I think. I just don't want to sound whiny towards their hard work discussing ratings.

Anyways, I like doing personal edits, i.e. making Trout the beast he is and upping Tanaka a little bit, and I was trying to figure out a good rating for J.D. Martinez. I was wondering if anyone could maybe show me a thread like this where that discussion is allowed that I possibly am overlooking.

I don't think there is a thread like that. But, imo, by SCEA's rating scale... 76?

Well, that's a shame. Maybe someone should start a thread like that. I'd be very interested.

I don't want to clutter this thread up with an off-topic discussion, so I am not going to start conversing on it, but I was talking about every attribute. haha That's why another thread would be sweet. If anyone is interested/bored/whatever, I'd very much like an unbiased eye on him and would welcome a PM.

Back to the purpose of this thread, in my franchise I just went ahead and played all the irl injured players and went on my merry way. I use 30-team control and I really want to boost up my BP and with Jose Iglesias and Ian Kinsler, I don't really need Eugenio Suarez (22y 67Ovr B Pot). What kind of immediate help do you think I could get from a trade with him being the center piece. I am in the middle of May, but I don't think that is too soon for a minor BP trade, what do you guys think?

Sounds like a good thread idea. This sounds like an intersecting topic, so you could make a new thread about this if you want to

A lefty bullpen arm from the Phillies. They could use Suarez as a bridge to Crawford and use could use bullpen help. B. Lincoln?

I am in the middle of the game, so I just looked him up on fangraphs and he doesn't look very good. I'll have to check him out after my game. He's also a RHP. But I do like the idea of getting a LHP and booting Phil Coke from MLB for all of eternity.

If you really want Lincoln, Suarez might be an overpay. You could probably get him for a mid C. I think Bastardo for Suarez would work, honestly.

Rex Brothers is another RP who you could get with a B potential guy.
