The spreadsheet is a great and while the details can be debated, it is much more accurate than anything I've seen. There are too many good personnel folks in here to leave it to a dice roll.

Perhaps two threads next year? One for folks that think they know what Beane, Towers, Theo, etc. are thinking and one simply for video game solutions. This is my first year on the site, don't know if this has been done in the past.

You could do that if you want, but I'm sticking here. Not too sure it'll last given it's impossible to guess what's going on in a GMs mind (as proven by Lunhow's Giolito for Harrell idea).

Also, I was thinking exactly what WTNY said. A lot of lopsided trades with that system.

If people start coming in here saying "I'm gonna trade Luis Valbuena for Stanton straight up because I rolled a 6 so it's fair" I might just move to another country, have a stroke, or both. At the very least, I would never answer a post by anyone who did this and hope the 6-7 people in here actively helping in here would follow suit.

Sorry to come down so hard opposed to this, but it really is contrary to the entire spirit of this thread. And if you analyze the Samardzija for Russell deal, I'm not too sure you'll find the spreadsheet was way off anyway...so not seeing the impetus for this approach.

No big deal. And I hear ya. I love this thread, but I think you might have misinterpreted what I was saying. A trade like Stanton for Valvuena would not be allowed in the first place. I'm simply sying trades like the Samardzija deal might have gotten some opposition on here as being unrealistic for a number of reasons. A trade like that might be good to put to a dice roll. I don't know. I was just trying to come up with a way to make it so we actually try to "trade" with the CPU. As it stands right now we just do our own, "realistic" trades and push them through. Just a thought, and I'll probably never do it. And I was never saying that we should replace this thread with a dice roll.

Did anyone here actually think Oakland's pitching didn't need help and that Addison Russell was untouchable? Seems like a lot of smoke over a very plausible trade.

The trade logic is so broken that 9/10 times you can't realistically or fairly trade with the computer. That's why we do what we do. I've seen Javier Baez traded to the Nationals for Tyler Clippard too many times to want to deal with then CPU at all. I don't think twice about 30 team control.

I wouldn't want to leave something up to rolling a dice, but I understand what you're trying to get at. Each and every franchise is unique, so there are many different things that could happen in each one. Things that we think are "unrealistic" could happen in one's franchise. Like, if I were the Cubs and somehow was on pace to win 90 games at the deadline, I probably wouldn't be selling off.

I think the spreadsheet in addition to multiple people's opinions + discussion is the best way to go about trading if you're looking for fairness with some reasonable realism.

Thought that at first. Looked at advanced metrics, love it. It fits both sides current philosophy perfectly.

                Yeah, I agree with you.

Any A's fan who watches lots of games probably had the hunch that the performances of Kazmir, Milone, and Chavez wouldn't hold up long-term--that one or more likely two of those guys would come down to earth or fall apart completely. Milone in particular makes me nervous when I watch games.

And when you factor in the loss of Parker and Griffin, you have a pretty precarious situation going on in that rotation.

While some might say the move is premature given that OAK has such a stellar record and is getting such good pitching, I think it's a prescient move that deals with the emergency situation of a pitching crash from those aforementioned guys before the situation gets dire. So when it does, they're going to be ready.

With no stats or any info to go off of, I'm sure people will just tell you what the spreadsheet says. If he's performing above expectations, give a better prospect. If he's not, give a worse prospect.

Ah I see. Well, you said he lost his spot in the rotation, so it wouldn't take much. Probably a mid C prospect.

Kazmir's one high C and one mid C according to my offline version of the spreadsheet

Still looking to add a CF and some bullpen help to my M's for the playoff push. (I am at July 3 and 45-40 tied with the Red Sox for the WC)

Cubs are in last place 32-53.

Acquire CF E. Bonifacio (.210 12 SB's), LHP J. Russell (5-0 1.06 ERA in 42 IP despite LHH hitting .314 against him) and OF Brett Jackson (hitting .261 with 5 HR and 27 RBI with 7 SB's in AAA).

According to the spreadsheet Boni and Russel are High C's and Jackson is a Mid C.

Well the Cubs have been great at acquiring IF/OF prospects they havn't done much with their pitching.

I was thinking something like Blake Beavan (73/C) 5-3 with a 4.70 ERA in the Bigs (started the year as my #5), SP S. Landazuri (68/B) who is 22 yrs old and currently 5-8 in AA, OF A. Almonte (60/C) and 1B D. Paolina (63/C) hitting .253 with 9 HR's in AA.

I made the Oakland-Chicago trade in my Franchise so the Cubs could use a MLB ready SP in Beavan and Landazuri gives them another young arm for the future. Paolina actually would be their highest rated 1B behind Rizzo and I included Almonte because I figure he could help out as a #4/#5 OF until someone like Solar or Almora takes over a starting spot next year, with Ruggaino, J. Lake/R. Sweeney and Schierholtz as their starters for the rest of the season.

Which is why I included Jackson, appears to me he is lost in the mix of the young OF's in Chicago and figure maybe he could turn things around in Seattle for me and allow me deal either Ackley or Saunders.

I also would like to make a deal for the Angels in my Franchise. They are currently battling me for 1st place in the AL West. They just got done doing a deal in real life with Arizona (which I made in my Franchise) but they could also use a SP and was wondering what players might be a good fit for Brandon McCarthy.

In my Franchise McCarthy is 6-8 but has a 2.55 ERA and the Diamondbacks are currently battling the Cubs and Marlins for the worst record in baseball.

Spreadsheet says a Low B and High C.

Was thinking maybe 2B T. Lindsey (67/B) but not sure who else?
