IMO...part of the problem with some of these discussions is that we mix and match real life players/events with the game. Rarely are they moving in the same directions.
A lot of trades that are discussed are never quantified with what's happening in the franchise....current rosters....etc

To add to it, people weight different things in different ways. For example, some guys completely block out what's happening in the 2014 season and only let in-game stats influence their valuations of players. Personally, I tend to let my current view of a player (which is based on current happenings in real life) have significant weight in addition to in-game stats. So, it's not even that there is the whole reality/fantasy thing, but people even have different perceptions/views on what weight to give each one or both.

Like AC mentioned, we usually do ask for certain info (I almost think we should have a form for people to fill out, lol) which includes team, record, date in the season, contenders/pretenders, and pertinent stats. This does help, but if it's not given, I basically just assume that players are performing as they are in real life.

I have been thinking the same thing lately. I really do think we should. It would save us so much time and space on the forum.

              Actually.

In a baseball game earlier in the year, my team was setting lineups. We use a white board with name magnets. Unfortunately, one of mine happened to go missing. They only had a "Steve" magnet (we don't have a player named Steve!?!?!), so I went by Steve that game. Then I hit a triple. I've been called Steve ever since. My name is not Steve.

Unless you wish to call me Steve Francis.

My man Stevie Francis. Who would sit in the locker room at half, with a brew in one and and a 'smoke' in the other and still come out and drop 20 in the 2nd half. My man. This is your idol? You'd be better off with TMac.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

In the market for a potential closer replacement a week into my new season.. The Mariners have Wilhelmsen (31yr 92ovr), Carson Smith (25 86ovr High B) & Carter Capps 24 81ovr Low A. I figure they would at least trade one of them being that they have 3 highly rated closers. Wilhelmsen was 1-4 with 44sv & a 3.91 last year. Smith was 1-6 with 1sv and a 5.15 ERA and Capps has just bounced around between MLB and AAA. I would like to get Smith because he's the most MLB ready but that could be the same reason the Mariners would want to keep him. I didnt see any value for him on the spreadsheet.

Also looking for a good hard throwing bullpen arm. I've decided to target Kelvin Herrera. I would love to give up Niese to create a spot for Synder. The Royals currently have Gavin FLoyd and Jorge De La Rosa at the back end of thier rotation so I figured Niese could be an upgrade over either one. At this point Niese is a 81ovr and was 13-9 with a 3.68 last year. Would a swap be reasonable or unfair for either me or the Royals?

This also a 13 the show franchise.. figured that might be important. Thanks for any and all answers.

I used Capps as my CP last year on MLB13, and he flat out dominated.. I loved using him and was very disappointed that the M's traded him for Logan Morrison in real life.

                      C. Smith is the M's #17 rated prospect, but Seattle doesn't view him as closer but more of a 8th inning specialist. However in my current Franchise (MLB14) I have him as my CP in AAA and he dominated last year posting a ERA under 1.00 with 35/38 save opps. I just started my 2015 season and he is a perfect 6/6 with a 0.00 ERA so he would be someone to go after as well. I actually traded him in my 2013 Franchise to the Yankees.

In real life the M's signed F. Rodney this season to be the CP, so they don't really view Wilhelmsen as their CP either, so basically I would say pick the one you want.

As far as what to offer, it's hard to say because you are playing with the 2013 roster thus no Cano.. However I would say it's safe to say they could use a 1B or a OF who hits Right handed.

First of all, it's only a week into your season...maybe auditioning some guys in the closer role makes more sense if you have Parnell injured. I don't see many teams tearing up their bullpen so soon into the season.

Second of all, why do you want to get rid of Niese?? And for a reliever? You could do better than that. Not to tell you what moves to make, but have you considered dropping someone else to make room for Syndergaard? Gee makes more sense than Niese...and you could get a decent RP for him anyway.

For the Niese trade, even though I think its too early in the season for starter swap trades, Niese for a reliever is selling yourself short.

Yeah I mean their lineup sorta looks the way it did pre Cano. Really nothing to be afraid. They have a great rotation so I would defiantly think some sort of bat would help them.

I've been uneasy about Parnell for a while and kinda wanted to move him into a setup role. Im probably panicking because he's blown 2 saves already & I'm already falling behind in the division. I wouldn't necessarily make a trade at this moment but if either Capps or Smith could be had a decent price I would defiantly look into once I got a bit deeper into the season. Right now I think I think Wilhelmsen is there guy at closer so I thought maybe they would be willing to trade the 2 guys behind him at some point especially because neither has had much success yet.

As for my rotation I have Harvey, Wheeler, Lester (Free Agency 2 years ago), Brett Anderson (Free Agency this year) , and Niese. I consider Niese the weakest link. I already had Gee in the Pen last year and I had to move him to AAA to start this season. He's still an 80 ovr but I didnt know he had any value since he's been in limited action the past 2 years. However I would much rather trade him then Niese.

It's July 6th, the O's are tied for 2nd w/BOS, 2.5gb of TOR. LAD is leading the NL West by 4.5 over ARZ (don't ask how). Hundley and Joseph are playing well enough that I can trade Wieters now instead of waiting until the offseason.

I have already placed G.Holmes ('14 1st Rd pick of LAD) in the deal as a PTBNL and will collect him in the offseason. We'll call him a low B for argument sake. Obviously that is not enough and I would like to add one of Seager/Pederson. Am I reaching too much?

                              Matt is having a typical year .248/.312/.428 7hr 37rbi

You have to wait a full year until after the draft to collect Holmes. I can't say I agree with going for Holmes or asking for Seager/Pederson/Urias.

                                I'd probably look elsewhere.
