Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

I got called up last night after what has seemed like forever.

I was drafted as a SS for the Chicago White Sox in the 3rd round after a decent showcase with no power. As of the all-star break in year one I was batting .333 with 8 home runs and 44 rbi's and 30 stolen bases. I was then all of a sudden traded to the Oakland A's where I was used exclusively as a DH for the rest of the year. I ended the year in AAA with our team losing in the second round of the playoffs but ended the year hitting .308 with 13 home runs, 92 rbi, & 52 stolen bases between AA & AAA.

During the offseason I noticed the A's acquired Elvis Andrus to play SS but were very weak as an organization at 2B so I asked at the beginning of 2015 to play 2B, which I was granted. I was starting at 2B and after hitting .308 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI's through the first month, I was promoted to the big league roster last night. I played one game against Boston before going to bed and went 0-3 with a walk. I am looking forward to playing next to Andrus & have been planted as the #6 hitter for the time being as being the #3 hitter all through the minors.

      Bubba "Big Country" Woods

      2016: Breakout Bubba?

Bubba Woods batted .252 10 HR 28 RBI in 38 games for San Diego last year. While those numbers are not off the charts, his expectations for 2016 could not be much higher. Now entrenched as the franchise 1st baseman for the Padres, Woods is going to be held to the highest standard. However, could the looming 2017 NFL Draft poison an otherwise "expected" breakout season?

We reported at the end of 2015 that Woods could be on the NFL Draft radar despite not playing since HS (where he was a 5* LT committed to UGA). He reported to spring training at 6'8'' 286 lbs.; a 20 lb gain from 2015. We spoke to one un-named NFL scout about his potential draft stock.

" There is no doubt Woods will be a huge subject in war rooms for the 2017 draft. He is definitely on every NFL team's radar. I have heard him being listed as a possible late 1st all the way to the 6th round based on the combine and training done. Whoever does choose him is going to have to deal with the Padres and workout a beneficial schedule for both teams. It is not often someone can play two sports full-time."

ESPN's Mel Kiper has Woods listed as a 3rd-4th round prospect due to no college game tape and pending combine performance. " Woods is an intriguing prospect. He could be a franchise LT but he has not been coached since his HS days and there is a big difference between that and the NFL. He certainly has the physical tools (6'8'' 286) but there are a lot of question marks."

The reason I bring this up is Bubba Woods is currently batting .243 4 HR 11 RBIs in 17 games to start the year. While these numbers do not indicated a breakout, you have to wonder if the prospective Dual-athlete dream could hurt what is suppose to be a dominate year for the 20 year old "Big Country" Woods. Pre-All Start Update

The Chicago Cubs are leading the Central Division with a outstanding record of 45-28 and are looking like a possible playoff team for the first time in over a decade. But there is definitely plenty of more baseball to play. Lets get an update on how the team is doing.
With the All Star game right around the corner the Cubs currently have 2 players who are all but guaranteed locks to be in the All Star game SP Jordan Zimmerman and 2nd Baseman Jerry Finger.
2nd Baseman Jerry Finger has just been setting the league on fire this year with an amazing .347 batting average to lead the MLB. Currently sits 4th in the NL with 86 hits. Tied for 9th in HRs with 14, 10th in RBIs with 43, and First in stolen bases with 22. The 24yr old is just a monster and is one of the main reasons the Cubs are leading the division. when asked about his performance this year Finger had this to say " I'm just out here trying to help my team win games, at the end of the day that's all that matters I wanna take this team to the World Series."

Well if the Cubs keep playing the way they are now it is highly possible.
Only thing in sports that matters is Chicago Bears, Bulls, Cubs, and Blackhawks .

          Julian Moses
          Kansas City Royals
          Centerfielder

Julian Moses is the son of former US olympian Edwin Moses, gold medal hurdler. (I have no idea if his son is involved in athletics at all, I just liked the name Moses, knew who Edwin Moses was, and went from there lol). Let's just say that all-world speed and explosiveness runs in the family. Julian is a rangy outfielder who is a terror on the basepaths, and who also has some serious power for an 18 year old. Standing 6'3 195lbs, he looks like a young Ken Griffey Jr. and that seems to be the comparison a lot of scouts make when discussing him.

At the showcase Julian hit a homer in all 3 games while also stealing a handful of bases, and handling his business in centerfield. Based on performance, he was projected to go early 1st round, but like Mike Trout several years before him, he managed to slip under the radar and fall down the board, where the Kansas City Royals were happy to take him.

          AA

Julian arrived at Double-A Northwestern Arkansas to suit up for the Naturals (a fitting name), but it was soon made clear that he didn't belong there. While struggling to find his power, he turned his focus on showing the club he could hit for average. In 24 games he had 97 ABs and turned those into 39 hits (.402), including 5 doubles, 5 triples and 3 homers. He also stole 12 bases. His time there was shortlived, as he was quickly promoted to the next level.

          AAA

Immediately upon arriving, Julian struggled to find his bat. And even worse, the team did not seem to have a plan for where they wanted to play him on defense. After a few weeks of starting in CF and forcing Bubba Starling to LF, suddenly the club started slotting Julian as the DH every day on the lineup card and moving Bubba back to CF. They didn't tell him why, and he wasn't about to complain. But it bothered him. He put his head down, went out and hit, and worked on his fielding during his off time. During this time he started to get on a tear hitting the ball.

After a while, he decided enough was enough. He went to the manager and requested a move to Left Field, where hopefully they would feel more confident allowing him to play the field. The team said yes, and Julian responded by throwing out 4 runners at home plate over the next 2 weeks.

Once he got back in the field, everything started coming together. His bat was on fire, and he was a pitcher's worst nightmare on the bases. He was putting together a great overall season in AAA, culminating in an All-Star selection

Julian finally felt like he was happy with this club. He hit .331 over 62 games, with 10 doubles, 6 triples, and 16 homers, and 34 stolen bases. One night, after a home victory against the New Orleans Zephyrs, followed by a long phone conversation with his father Edwin, it happened: he got The Call.

          The Show

July 20th, 2014, The Call. "Tomorrow, you're suiting up for the Kansas City Royals at Cellular Field in Chicago." Julian was not expecting this. He thought he'd probably be a September call-up, but July? Apparently they were putting a reliever on the DL and had a roster spot open up, and Julian's performance of late had been too good to be ignored. Little did he know, this would not be a simple cup of coffee.

When he got to the stadium, he ignored the press and just did what he always had done: play ball.

Although he started off very slow, hitting near the Mendoza line for the first couple weeks, he finally found his stride and went on a tear. His power was not always there, but he was able to put together several 7 and 8 game hitting streaks and boost his average up over .300 for some of the year, although it dipped just below to finish the year.

Julian also switched back to Centerfield, as Alex Gordon was entrenched in left and Lorenzo Cain was not going to block his arrival.

The frustrating thing for Julian is that he burned his rookie eligibility, but also wasn't in the bigs long enough to put together a strong rookie of the year resume. So there will be no Rookie of the Year for him. When asked about this he told the press "I'll just have to get one more MVP award to make up for it," with a cheeky grin.

Julian played 54 MLB games as a rookie, getting 54 hits on 182 at bats (.297). 6 doubles, 2 triples, 7 homers. 35 stolen bases.

All in all, across 3 levels he hit .332 with 26 homers, 76 RBIs and 81 stolen bases.

The Royals finished 91-61 and earned a wildcard berth. They actually were winning the division for much of the final 2 months but relinquished the pennant to the Tigers in the final week. They lost the wildcard game vs. the Yankees.

The highlight of Julian's rookie year was no doubt his 3 HR game in his first visit to Yankee Stadium. Here was the final of the 3 homers:

After his 3 homer game, a New York beat writer asked him if we should expect more of this from him. He smiled and said "I know we're in the Bronx, but there's a guy from Brooklyn who once said 'Sky Is The Limit'."

I got drafted by the Cards...I used my 30,000 preorder bonus points and now I'm at the beginning of my 3rd season a 99 overall second baseman. I am trying to switch teams(have been all 2 years btw) and they are not trading me. I also simulated ahead to see if they would trade me during the 3rd season and they did not. Also at the beginning of the 3rd season, the Cards offered me 7 years at $9 mil, and I didn't take it because I thought I could sign with another team...so I simmed and it automatically made me sign with the cards for 1 year at $600,000...I am so confused...please help me get off this team...please!

You aren't a free agent until 6 years of MLB service time. Minor leagues not included.

So... you better get used to playing with the Cardinals lol. Or hope they trade you to avoid paying arbitration

There's not really anything you can do to "fast track" a trade, other than maybe purposefully playing ****ty. Teams don't generally trade young, cost-controlled players unless they absolutely need to. It kinda depends on your team's situation.

Whether or not you'd end up back in the minors depends on what team you get traded to, and who else they have at your position.

Your best bet is to just keep requesting and hope they help you out. But if you're playing well for them and you're cheap, they don't really have much motivation to move you.

Got the game yesterday and decided to try out RTTS and I was having a lot of fun. I was drafted by Seattle in the 7th round (terrible I know) and I'm doing okay in double A as a LF (I also play CF and RF).

I am a little upset at the Giants. They sent Brandon Belt to Triple A, presumably to make room for my guy, who is a 81 ovr prospect.

                          That's good.

Then they start the 70 ovr third base backup at first base instead of me. Almost a month into the season and I am relegate to spot starts and PH.

And then that damn backup third baseman gets off to a HOT start so I doubt I crack the lineup soon.

It's such a pain waiting through loading and saving screens to get a single at bat.

Started year 2, I can not stop hitting singles. It's annoying lol. I'm hitting .395 to start the year. Through the first 10 games I have 15 hits on 38 ABs. 13 of the 15 are singles. Wish I could hit a little less but have more meaningful hits. Hopefully my pop will come back. My ratings are geared more towards power than contact. 62 contact/75 power vs righties, 52 contact/63 power vs lefties.

I simmed a few seasons in a RTTS, and all the gold glove winners (at least for catcher, which was the position I was) were non-everyday players with 1.000 fielding percentages. I don't know if this goes for other positions as well as I didn't check. If so, I won't be winning one anytime soon.
