Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
Yes, there are different difficulties for pitching and hitting. This way, you can be on all-star for pitching but veteran for hitting at the same time if your pitching is better than hitting. In my experience, if I get one guy on base per inning the dynamic difficulty won't really move for hitting, and the same thing applies to pitching.
Using dynamic difficulty....I have a Dodger and A's spring training in progress. Struggled first few games due to errors. Last four or five games have been scoring 5-6 runs a game and completely shutting the cpu down as my pitching has been overwhelming. How many games should you expect to play before you get to Your level. The last few games have been no contests. Want to end spring training but can't yet!

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
I'll be 72 on August 2nd, and I like competition. However, I don't want to get a heart attack, so I went to my doctor for a checkup. I asked him if I could play The Show with DD. He checked my hand and eye coordination, checked my vision, checked my right arm (I throw right-handed) and gave me an EKG after taking my blood pressure. He then gave me the okay to play with DD, and I was so happy you have no idea.
One thing though, he did ask me if I had a Will made out and burial plans. After hearing that, I was scared. He then laughed and said, "Go make a fool of yourself." I asked him why he thought I was making a fool of myself. He said, "At your age you should be playing cards, not baseball."
Well, that got me mad, and I asked him if he played The Show. He said he often plays it with his son. I gave him my PSN name and said you and or your son can look me up and we'll see who should be playing cards.Comment

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
I love this feature. The game is more enjoyable with settings that mimic your playing style, so you can have more competitive games and more one sided affairs without worrying about adjusting the settings because they adjust automatically .PSN - SwangKang169

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
Does DD ever lock in? I ask because I've been using it for about 8 exhibition games and today I noting my settings have changed. Pitching was no longer set to DD only batting. When I went back into settings and changed it back to DD it shows I'm at Rookie +? I'm confused?

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
DD attaches itself to your The Show Profile. I've turned it on and off at will and never had it reset; as long as I was using the SAME Profile.
Also, during a game; if you advance a Difficulty Level, for the remainder of that game, that side of the ball cannot advance any further.
You'll also lose the on-screen notification if you use the fast forward feature. Meaning, if you just sim hitting, you'll still see the DD OSD when pitching. But if you decide to hit for an inning or two, the OSD for DD will not appear for the remainder of that game because you've essentially locked advancement for hitting out.
If your level has reset completely and you're sure of it, it has to be your Profile has switched. If not, it's a bug.
I've tested this and it works flawlessly for me (no bugs on my end).Comment

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
I tried using DD but I could never get it past Rookie++. I would do well for a bit but then start sucking in RTTS so I stopped using it and switched over to veteran. I must say I am doing much better now on that setting with a new character too. Maybe soon though I will try it again but for now I just hated seeing my setting drop below Rookie when I was doing bad.Comment

Thanks for the detailed info. Even my settings changed. I've been strictly DD so my guess is I encountered some bug. I only have 1 profile and have only played exhibition games to try and level out on DD.
Will keep an eye out going forward

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
Some additional notes on Dynamic Difficulty:
* Sliders work the same as always, independently of DD
* As pointed out, you can maintain two separate option profiles so that two different people can play or so you can keep Franchise / RTTS separate.
* There are special rules to prevent promotion/demotion in the middle of a close game.
* RTTS hitters and relievers gain/lose progress at twice the rate. Since they have far fewer opportunities per game, it can still take many games to see a change.Comment

Re: Dynamic Difficulty?
Reading this is interesting, but one big problem comes to mind with this..
Let's say my team gets in a slump after saying I should be on all star and I lose 3 of 4 games in a series.. Is it gonna take me down to veteran where I can win? I would hate that.
I want it to be where I can win and lose depending on how I play, not because the game gets easier and let's me win.
I might be missing something but that's what it seems like and I'm afraid to use it.
Edit::
Got to thinking also, if I use the Cubs, is it gonna be a lower setting because my team isn't good but if I used the Redsox, will I get a harder setting? The cubs shouldn't be able to win often so I would want it to be the same difficulty regardless of team.Last edited by TheBleedingRed21; 05-13-2014, 03:00 PM.Comment

I'd like to counter bcruise on this simply by pointing out that if your skill level is indeed of the plus or minis variety, you'll never be able to access those without DD.
I went on a 10 game winning streak followed by a 4 game losing streak in my Franchise (with some BIG scoring differentials sprinkled in there). Over that period my hitting level never changed, and my pitching only did by a half level (if you excuse the 1 1/2 games I pitched on HOF).
I understand the fear but I can verify first hand this concern is unwarranted. Once your level stabilizes your games will still be extremely varied and your team will still succumb to hot and cold streaks. I believe the ++++ and ---- are designed to counter this issue (as does the once per game level up/down limit).
DD tracks OPS. Period. Not W and L's.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 05-13-2014, 03:07 PM.Comment

How fast you get promoted/demoted is proportional to how badly you're winning/losing. Most of the time, neither will happen. You can theoretically have a very long losing streak, 10+/20+ games lost in a row, and still not get demoted as long as they were all close enough. There's no limit to how many games you can lose in a row - you can lose all 162 games and not get demoted even 1/2 a difficulty.
For example, a team can get 9 hits 2 doubles and a home run, give up 9 hits 2 doubles and a home run, and still lose 4-5 because the hits weren't stacked up in the right situation. Such a team won't get promoted/demoted even though they 'lost' because there was nothing statistically wrong with their performance.
To illustrate that further, 3 singles in the 1st inning and none in innings 2 and 3 will probably give you a run. 1 single each inning for the first three innings will get you none. Both examples are the same OPS, but the first scenario puts you ahead. Dynamic Difficulty however cares about the latter because it's a fairer assessment.
If you lose by a ton for several games in a row, the game will demote you. And if on Veteran+ you keep losing by a ton for several games in a row, it'll demote you again. It isn't going to care that you really should stay on Allstar, because how would it know? It only cares about how you actually did.Last edited by Brian SCEA; 05-13-2014, 03:13 PM.Comment
