Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Just finished up a 10 game roadtrip on the West Coast. Went 5-5 and my record stands at 19-14. The biggest event of my second season happened on this road trip. Mallex Smith made his debut! My lineup was severely lacking and I needed a jumpstart so I called him up from AAA. He made his first start against his former organization, the Padres, and boy was it a good one. In 4 at bats, Mallex went 2-3 with 2 singles, 2 stolen bases, a walk, and a run scored. After the ten game road swing, he is hitting .355 with 2 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.

Other than the grind through May, I have started scouting individual prospects for the upcoming draft. My farm system is the key to the Braves success and I am looking to add to an already strong system. I already have a TON of great starting pitching prospects but my relievers are weak and I only have one closer (and I converted him from a starter anyways). So in the first or second round I am gonna look for a future dominant reliever. My biggest need is a future third baseman. I have no 3b prospects in the system and Kelly Johnson and Jace Peterson aren't exactly long term options. I am looking at using the 32nd pick on a high potential infielder that can hit and field well. Probably gonna grab a high schooler with low overall but high potential and just let him develop.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I have 3 weeks left in the season and I currently trail the Brewers by 4 games in the Central. I hold the #1 wildcard spot by 1/2 game over the Marlins. The Pirates and Reds are both within 2 games of the wildcard. The Cubs slipped to 6. No body else is within discussion range.

The AL Wildcard is nuts with 6 teams all within 2 games of the top wildcard spot. Been very entertaining to say the least to watch that race play out.

Memphis (AAA) and Springfield (AA) both made it to the playoffs. Memphis is 1-1 in their series and Springfield advanced out of the first round and into the finals for the Texas League Championship.

All-Star Break - 2015

Things have gotten very interesting in the Central. We have fallen to .500 at 45-45 after going 17-22 in June and the first half of July. Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates are all tied for 1st at 48-42, 48-42 and 47-41. We are 3 games back and the Reds are 3.5 games back.

        MLB Standings
        Spoiler

We got hit pretty hard with injuries in June. Gerardo Parra dislocated his shoulder on the 14th. He will be out until at least the first week or two of August. Possibly into September. He was hitting .264 with 13 RBI. 10 Days later we lost Kyle Lohse for the rest of the year due to a Torn Labrum. He was 5-6 with a 3.50 ERA. Johnathan Broxton also got hurt for a few weeks. He is back now though.

Pitching regressed a bit. Wily Peralta now has a 3.84 ERA. Jimmy Nelson is at 3.75.May Garza leads the team with a 2.97 ERA. Bullpen is about the same. Jeremy Jeffress has a 1.69 ERA and is our setup man now. Neal Cotts has a 2.56 ERA in 45.2 IP. Thornburg is at 3.00. And K-Rod has 23 saves with a 2.42 ERA.

Offense didnt change much. Lucroy is hitting .300. Adam Lind is hitting .267 with 19 HR and 60 RBI.Ryan Braun is hitting .296 with 18 HR. Aramis Ramirez got his AVG up to .252. Khris Davis took over LF full time with Parra going down. Still not hitting well. .209 with 7 HR and 16 RBI. Kylre Wren was called up and is hitting .238 with a HR in 19 games. Carlos Gomez is hitting .250. Gonna make a few lineup changes to try and get him and a couple guys going.

Unfortunately Scooter Gennett was suspended 80 games for PED use so his season is officially over. And he will have to miss the 1st 8 games of next season as well. Luis Sardinas is hitting .326 with 2 HR and 30 RBI in AAA. He will be called up to replace Scooter.

(For the part in bold i need some help. Players are automatically ineligible for post season play when they test positive for PEDs now. Do the playoff games still count towards their suspension even though they cant play in them anyway? If we made the Playoffs and played in 8 games. Would Scooter be eligible for game 1 next year or would it not matter like i think and he still have to sit out the 1st 8 games?)

AL won the All-Star game 2-0.

Giving my Yankees another go using OSFM 2.1 rosters and A&S sliders. On Opening Day, RA Dickey was killing us with the knuckle-ball (1 hit through the first 4 innings) until Headley lined a pitch to his shin. Thus, Dickey was hurt, and Randy Wolf replaced him for Toronto.

Tanaka served up a 2 run homer in the first to Encarnacion during a three hit first inning. A-Rod singled ( hit #2940) but otherwise the Yanks were locked down for the first 4 innings.

Tanaka was pretty dominant after the first inning, giving up 2 hits and striking out nine in total through the sixth inning.

          ------

Holy....... I was held to two hits throughout the first eight innings. In the ninth, Chasen Shreve shut down the Jays. The Yanks came to bat. Gardner singled, Ellsbury singled. Tex singled Gardner home to make it a 3-1 game.

Two outs, bottom of the ninth. Yanks trail 3-1. Alex Rodriguez comes to the plate. He takes the first two pitches from Closer Brett Cecil for balls. He takes a strike. On the fourth pitch, A-Rod swings with all his might, and the ball....is...GONE! On Opening Day, in his first game since September 2013, Rodriguez, the "villain" of the Yankees, gives them a walk-off win at home with a three run home run. Chasen Shreve was awarded the win. Yankees win 4-3.

Wow, that was one of my favorite MLB moments in my time playing the game. Go A-Rod.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

We have hit a skid at the most inopportune time. We cannot win a series, and while we still are in a wildcard spot, we are only there because other teams are playing each other and keeping each other from gaining ground.

There are two weeks left in the season and we have the ability to firmly plant ourselves in the playoffs as we play against other contenders, but right now I'm not so sure we have what it takes. Pitching falling apart, we can't drive in runs, and we seem to be in that funk where we find ways to lose a game, instead of win them.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Finally settled with a long term team for my franchise. The Cleveland Indians, my favorite team. I'm playing it very different this year and love it! I'm playing every game and alternate between hitting only and next game I pitch only (sim half innings). And I play with quick counts.

I'm currently 3-3, losing the opening series @ Houston 1-2, winning the final game to avoid being swept. Kluber was rocked (I was pitching only). His line was 3ip 5h 6er 1bb 3k.

Split the first two with the Tigers at home, with a 6-2 win and 2-8 loss. In the rubber match on a beautifil Sunday afternoon it was Corey Kluber vs David Price.

This was a wild game! All tied at 1-1 headed to the bottom of the 5th. I'm hitting only this game. I score 4 in the 5th, three from a Carlos Santana homerun. Career #100 for him. Knocks Price out the game. I had 3 more runs in the 6th and 7th.

Kluber pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 runs. My bullpen struggled, giving up 3 runs in the late innings.

I held on to take the rubber match, winning 8-5. I'm 3-3 in the early year with a quick two game set with the White Sox.

Just won on opening day of my mets franchise 3-2. Harvey allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Flores hit a 2 run home run to take the lead. They tied and it went to extra innings. In the tenth, we got a lead off hit followed by two walks. John Mayberry comes in to pinch hit and hits it in the gap, runner scores, walk off on opening day!

Just swept the Twins on the road and have now won 7 of the last 9 games. Doing with a very middle of the road team so far. Team is 12th in BA at .267 and we are 15th with a 3.71era. I'm now 7-4 in late April. Hitting the road again for a thre game set with the White Sox.

Decided to take 1 team (New York Mets). Expectation of finnishing .500 and Reaching the Playoffs sounds reasonable. All injured players (with some exceptions) are in uniform. Player Salary at $105M due to editing released OSFMv1 Roster with near to exact player salaries plus minor league rules sets. Used $500k for 40 Man Minimum.

                      Picture 2- April Calendar 11-12

Started off 8-0! Excellent Starting Pitching a lock-down bullpen led the way.
Equally clutch were clutch pinch-hitting hits in many late inning key situations. Things quickly soured after winning the first 2 games home (including the home opener). Bad defense and a team wide batting slump have dampened what was a great start. This, and with the Marlins on-fire, I find myself in a 3rd place after going 3 - 12 to finnish off April.

Picture 4 - April NL East Standings

Miami has been on-fire lead by HR Leader (10) G Stanton, and by their pitching led by Fernandez, Latos, Wilson, and Corbert whom have propelled them to Number 1 in Pitching in MLB. Impressively they also just picked up relief help from Oakland, LHP - O'Flaherty, for a minor leaguer. I ended the month with the usual well pitched, no hit affair. April had all parts you see in a baseball season. The good, the bad, the euphoria and the heart breaker.

Won the rubber match 5-3 at the White Sox. I'm now 9-5 with the Indians, two games up on Detroit. Start a big three game series on the road next.

I lost Trevor Bauer for 1-2 months with a dislocated shoulder. Brought up Shawn Marcum to take his spot in the rotation. Thought about starting Zach McAllister but he's been great out of the bullpen this year. 7g 12ip 3.00era 16k.

Gavin Floyd, Kluber, and Salazar will be pitching this series.

Just played my first game in awhile and boy was that frustrating. I had players miss fly balls by meekly putting up their gloves to stop it. That cost me 3 runs. I had another 3 runs score on errors. Then, to Top it off 1 run on 4 hits for offense. Yeesh.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

July wasn't too kind to the Marlins, knocking them back down to earth a bit. They still have a seeming stranglehold over a weak NL East, but cracks in the armor definitely showed up.

For one, the offense is too inconsistent for comfort's sake. When they are on, they are likely the best in the league. When they are cold, there's too many free swingers and swing-for-the-fences types to really sustain anything. Those that aren't, like Hech, Yelich, and Solano, are mostly just inferior to average, with Yelich and Carlos Santana being the exceptions.

The bullpen reared up as a sore spot again. The bullpen was literally the reason why the team got eliminated from the NLCS last season. Dominic Leone will return from the DL, so that's a plus and Paco Rodriguez's fetish for sliders and curves is working out very well this year, but Ramos, Delabar, et al. will need to straighten things out.

The Marlins made a deadline trade with the contending O's. The Marlins shipped off Michael Feliz, RF Oswaldo Arcia, and C J.T. Realmuto for a trio of prospects, SP Hunter Harvey, CF Josh Hart, and CP Caleb Emery.

Feliz had an exceptional July, and the Marlins might be selling high on him (or so they hope). Meanwhile, the O's are getting a young pitcher that could be ready to round into form and is good enough to help the back end of the rotation now. Arcia will fill a void in the O's outfield with a solid bat and useful defense at all OF positions. Realmuto isn't anything special, but he could very well be the best option at catcher the O's have.

The Marlins get another young pitcher to work with in Hunter Harvey. Hunter isn't as developed as Feliz, but might be on the Damian Boeve track in terms of his overall stuff. Control is a concern, however, while Boeve's control is very well developed, especially for a rookie. One scout commented, "The Marlins love the power arm archetype and Harvey is fitting that to a tee. High velocity, big movement and inconsistent control marks many of the organizations young pitchers."

Ironically enough, Emery is the exact opposite. He's a finesse reliever, much like Paco "I Hate Fastballs" Rodriguez. Emery probably won't be closer if/when he makes it to the majors, but could be a solid option out of the bullpen.

CF Josh Hart could be another sign that the Marlins are looking to rework the offense over time. Matt Baldwin has gotten increasing playing time because of his speed/defense combination and Hart looks to share a similar development projection. Hart needs more work in using his speed to steal bases as well as rounding out his game at the plate. His defense is big-league ready, especially with his speed.

There have been some rumblings that the Marlins might deal Carlos Gonzalez as he is in his final contract season. The trading of Arcia might dampen that (and free up $3 million that was just sitting on the bench or playing in AAA), though Marcel Ozuna is still hanging around and has emerged into a contact hitter with improving range in the field. Still, though, it would be hard to deal a hitter challenging for the batting crown with power, defense, and above-average speed while having an eye on a deep playoff run.

"The Marlins might be worried about arbitration contracts. Having good young players is a great trait to have...but the costs can ramp up quickly as their production does and they win bigger contracts via arbitration each year, " one analyst commented.

Elsewhere, the Pirates made a gutsy trade to pick up Archie Bradley to go with phenom Taillon at the top of the rotation. The Pirates are currently under .500, but could be one win streak away from being in the thick of things.

The Blue Jays picked up Max Scherzer in a trade from the Tigers in a move that's paid off so far.

The A's snatched up Troy Tulowitzki and Pedro Alvarez in early July, who are both helping keep the A's ahead of a tenacious Mariners crew for the AL West title. Also helping is the season A.J. Griffin has put togther - 15-2 with a 1.89 ERA.

There's still one promising name on the trading block. The Astros are, supposedly, shopping Shelby Miller. However, the fact he's still available at the deadline might mean the price is just too high. Understandably high, for sure, but too rich for a team to roll the dice.

We are 22-18 since the All-Star break. 67-63 overall. 3rd place in the division. 3 games behind Chicago for 1st. 2.5 games behind the Cardinals for the 2nd Wild Card spot. Cubs have won 12 of their last 16 games, and Cardinals went .500 in August to lose their hold on 1st.

                                Spoiler

Offense was alright for the most part. Has struggled a bit recently though. Braun is now hitting .309 with 25 HR and 69 RBI. Adam Lind is hitting .263. HR rate has dropped he has 22 now. Still leads the team with 79 RBI. Lucroy hitting .284, Segura .279 and Arami Ramirez .241 with 15 HR and 53 RBI. Luis Sardinas is hitting .278 with 12 RBI in 40 games replacing Gennett. Gerardo Para came off the DL a week ago. Struggling right now only hitting .248. Making a line up change with Parra, Lucroy, Segura and Ramirez all being cold right now.

Pitching has been consistently AVG. Mike Fires is 14-6 with a 3.28. Garza hasnt had much offensive help. He is 8-11 with a 3.26 ERA. Hiram Burgos has been starting since the break trying to replace Kyle Lohse. And he has done a damn god job. 4-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 11 games (7 starts). K-Rod has 36 saves and a 2.56 ERA. Jim Henderson has a 1.67 ERA in 37.2 IP. And Jeremy Jeffress is still doing well with a 2.18 ERA in 41.1 IP.

Its nice that most divisions have a legit battle for 1st place in the last month. NL Central leading the way with 4 teams that have the chance to win it. Gonna be a fun ride.
